L'ambiente in cui viviamo ci plasma e condiziona ogni gesto quotidiano. Pensiamo a quanta ispirazione ha offerto Genova a una moltitudine di artisti, tra cantautori e gruppi Prog Rock, o alla vitalità di Napoli. Spesso l’amore per la propria terra spinge i musicisti a trarre spunto da luoghi, odori e colori, restituendo un quadro sonoro che funge da vera e propria diapositiva per l'ascoltatore.
Marco Bucci, musicista, compositore e divulgatore autodidatta, si distingue per un approccio che fonde arte e tecnologia. In attività da trent’anni, Bucci integra strumenti tradizionali come chitarra, sintetizzatori, batterie elettroniche, flauto e kazoo con oggettistica e giocattoli sonori, confermandosi a tutti gli effetti un artigiano della musica.
Dopo alcune cassette autoprodotte, nel 2005 pubblica per Snowdonia "Contrappunti", una sorta di "best of", per poi tornare nel 2013 con il più maturo "...A Bassa Quota" (Tubogas Produzioni). La sua proposta attinge da numerosi stili: dalla psichedelia all'elettronica, passando per il cantautorato, il folk e l’alternative.
"Ostiando", registrato tra il 2018 e il 2024, si snoda tra le strade di Ostia e il suo litorale attraverso nove tracce. Si parte con "Levante", un’introduzione di quasi due minuti in cui l’autore gioca con sonorità folk di caratura mediterranea.
L’elettronica domina invece in "Sotto Covid", caratterizzata da un giro melodico martellante e arrangiamenti complessi che restituiscono il senso di alienazione vissuto durante le restrizioni. Bucci ama arricchire la linea base con una profusione di suoni, uno sforzo compositivo che culmina nei quindici minuti della "title track": una mini-suite ricca di vocalità e cambi d'umore che, in alcuni passaggi, evoca il Krautrock.
La prerogativa del Progetto M.B. è un incedere marcato che si infiltra nel caos per poi uscirne con disinvoltura, quasi fosse un giro sulle giostre. Nenie vocali accompagnano "Lungo Via Dell’Idroscalo", brano incentrato su synth ed elettronica dove solo nel finale appare una chitarra elettrica sintetica.
Dopo il minuto di sonorità industriali di "Ottobrata", incontriamo "Freccia Di Mare", che parte in stile Le Orme per poi addentrarsi in una cupa ricerca strutturale. Segue un’altra suite, "Ostia Mentis", un lungo cammino fatto di soste e ripartenze. Il disco si chiude con "Curvone" e "Ponente", due brani di circa due minuti: nel secondo, Bucci esplora nuovi sentieri attraverso una ballata strumentale che ricorda le atmosfere di "Gioco Di Bimba" (Orme).
"Ostiando" non è un disco di facile fruizione, nonostante le melodie orecchiabili, è piuttosto una galleria di acquerelli sonori dalle tinte a tratti fosche. Progetto M.B. ha osato: voi ve la sentite di dargli un ascolto? MS

The environment we live in shapes us, conditioning every daily gesture. Consider the immense inspiration the city of Genoa has offered to a multitude of artists—from singer-songwriters to Prog Rock bands—or the sheer vitality of Naples. Often, a love for one's homeland drives musicians to draw inspiration from specific places, scents, and colors, ultimately delivering a soundscape that acts as a literal "snapshot" for the listener.
Marco Bucci, a self-taught musician, composer, and educator, stands out for an approach that blends art and technology. Active for thirty years, Bucci integrates traditional instruments like guitar, synthesizers, drum machines, flute, and kazoo with found objects and sound-making toys, establishing himself as a true "craftsman of music."
Following several self-produced cassettes, he released "Contrappunti" (a sort of "best of" collection) via Snowdonia in 2005, before returning in 2013 with the more mature "...A Bassa Quota" (Tubogas Produzioni). His work draws from numerous styles: from psychedelia to electronica, by way of folk, alternative, and the singer-songwriter tradition.
"Ostiando", recorded between 2018 and 2024, winds through the streets of Ostia and its coastline across nine tracks. It opens with "Levante", a nearly two-minute introduction where the author plays with Mediterranean-inflected folk sounds.
Electronica takes center stage in "Sotto Covid", characterized by a relentless melodic loop and complex arrangements that capture the sense of alienation experienced during the lockdown periods. Bucci loves to layer a bassline with a profusion of sounds—a compositional effort that culminates in the fifteen-minute "title track": a mini-suite rich with vocals and mood shifts that, in certain passages, evokes Krautrock.
The hallmark of Progetto M.B. is a steady, marked pace that dives into chaos only to emerge with ease, much like a ride at a funfair. Vocal chants accompany "Lungo Via Dell’Idroscalo", a track centered on synths and electronics where a synthetic electric guitar makes its appearance only at the very end.
After the one-minute industrial soundscape of "Ottobrata", we encounter "Freccia Di Mare", which begins in the style of Le Orme before delving into dark structural research. Another suite follows, "Ostia Mentis", a long journey of stops and starts. The album closes with "Curvone" and "Ponente", two tracks of about two minutes each; in the latter, Bucci explores new paths through an instrumental ballad reminiscent of the atmosphere of "Gioco Di Bimba" (Orme).
"Ostiando" is not an easy-listening record, despite its catchy melodies; it is rather a gallery of sonic watercolors, sometimes painted in dark hues. Progetto M.B. has taken the leap, are you brave enough to take a listen? MS
