L'arte in senso generale apporta un valore aggiunto all'esistenza che oserei definire rafforzativo, e la musica ne è perfetto viatico. Noi italiani, attraverso l'innata solarità e fantasia, siamo capaci di intrattenere al meglio, e c'è anche chi lo fa con professionalità e cultura.
Uno dei nomi più interessanti di oggi che si cimentano su tematiche sociali incidenti è Musicanti Di Brama.
Il progetto musicale prende origine nel 2018 con la cantautrice romana Daniela Maurizi e il chitarrista svizzero Michael Wernli, mentre il batterista Alberto Proietti Gaffi amplia successivamente la formazione a trio. Oggi sono formati da Daniela Maurizi, Michael Wernli, Antonio Abruzzese (basso) e Luca Giudice (batteria, cajon). Nel 2023 registrano l'album omonimo, mettendo subito in luce un collettivo da gustare soprattutto in sede live.
Scattare una fotografia della musica proposta dal quartetto inquadrerebbe del cantautorato in stile Gaber, la chanson française, il Jazz, lo Swing, dal sirtaki alla tammurriata, dal Pop al Rock Progressive, in definitiva un connubio di forte personalità. Daniela inserisce nella musica performance vocali brechtiane e circensi, dove il testo scritto da lei è ricco di significato e acume.
In quattordici tracce, “Presunti Onesti” tratta di luoghi comuni, quei modi di dire che influenzano la nostra vita e a volte la condizionano pure. Cantava il mai troppo ricordato Ivan Graziani “Maledette Malelingue”, un esempio di come la società influisce negativamente sul nostro essere, questo è anche il leitmotiv dell’ album, che inizia proprio con il singolo omonimo.
Durante l'ascolto si ha subito la sensazione di trovarsi davanti a una performance live con una grande Daniela Maurizi in cattedra. L'accompagnamento è acustico in una sorta di valzer ricercato, in cui i cambi strutturali dimostrano una ricerca sonora che si adatta al contesto circense. La voce è in bilico fra cantato e recitato, come spesso ha saputo fare Gabriella Ferri nella lunga e sorprendente carriera.
Il breve “Intro” conduce a “Swingin Smile”, più vicina alla formula canzone in un ritmo allegro accompagnato dal Kazoo. La canzone è una sorta di autobiografia della cantante che narra il suo essere, mentre anche il corpo è analizzato in “I Am”, cantato in lingua italiana e inglese.
La chitarra acustica di Michael Wernli accompagna Maurizi nella sofisticata “Dammi Una Parola”, canzone orecchiabile con un cantato sperimentale sì, ma intonato e gentile.
Bellissima la strumentale “Little Lady”, che conduce l'ascolto verso un cantautorato Folk di facile presa, mentre “La Piovra”, seppur acustica, ha un riff tipicamente Hard Rock. Di tanto in tanto, fra le canzoni, fuoriesce il tema del virus, fra allusioni politiche e di potere.
“Ostaggio” si avvicina alla chanson française; “Tea Time” è un momento di break in cui la voce si esibisce anche in ottimi vocalizzi.
“Lasciami andare” si apre con un richiamo alla canzone ironica di Alberto Sordi “E va!” per poi immergersi in un cantautorato mediterraneo anni ’70, come avrebbe saputo fare per esempio il Pino Daniele di “Terra Mia”. Ritorna la performance con “Matrioska”, cantata anche in lingua francese.
“Sputa” è un'analisi di come si vive la giornata, fra giocosità, ironia e sagacia. Fra le canzoni più intriganti c'è “Pesciolino”, prossima musicalmente e vocalmente alla prima Teresa De Sio, e guarda caso, l'album si chiude proprio con “Mediterraneo”.
“Presunti Onesti” è uno sguardo acuto verso la società, al comportamento, alla politica, alla natura e molto altro ancora, il tutto accompagnato dalle gesta del giullare Maurizi, un vulcano inarrestabile di energia e capacità vocali. Entrate pure nel mondo dei Musicanti Di Brama, e fra riflessioni e divertimento scoprirete altri colori. MS

Life should be taken with a sense of humor, and those who do so bring well-being to themselves and others. Art, in general, adds value to existence, which I would dare to define as reinforcing, and music is the perfect vehicle for it. We Italians, through our innate sunniness and fantasy, are capable of entertaining at our best, and there are also those who do it with professionalism and culture.
One of the most interesting names today that tackles social issues is Musicanti Di Brama.
The musical project originated in 2018 with the Roman singer-songwriter Daniela Maurizi and the Swiss guitarist Michael Wernli, while the drummer Alberto Proietti Gaffi later expanded the formation to a trio. Today, they are composed of Daniela Maurizi, Michael Wernli, Antonio Abruzzese (bass), and Luca Giudice (drums, cajon). In 2023, they recorded the self-titled album, immediately highlighting a collective that is best enjoyed live.
Capturing the music proposed by the quartet would frame it within the singer-songwriter style of Gaber, French chanson, Jazz, Swing, from sirtaki to tammurriata, from Pop to Progressive Rock, ultimately a combination of strong personalities. Daniela inserts Brechtian and circus vocal performances into the music, where the lyrics written by her are rich in meaning and wit.
In fourteen tracks, “Presunti Onesti” deals with commonplaces, those sayings that influence our lives and sometimes condition them too. The late Ivan Graziani sang “Maledette Malelingue”, an example of how society negatively influences our being; this is also the leitmotif of this album, which begins with the self-titled single.
During the listening experience, one immediately gets the feeling of being in front of a live performance with a great Daniela Maurizi at the helm. The accompaniment is acoustic, in a sort of researched waltz, where the structural changes demonstrate a sound research that adapts to the circus context. The voice is balanced between singing and reciting, as Gabriella Ferri often did in her long and surprising career.
The brief “Intro” leads to “Swingin Smile”, closer to the song formula in an upbeat rhythm accompanied by the Kazoo. The song is a sort of autobiography of the singer that narrates her being, while also analyzing the body in “I Am”, sung in both Italian and English.
Michael Wernli's acoustic guitar accompanies Maurizi in the sophisticated “Dammi Una Parola”, a catchy song with experimental singing, but intoned and gentle.
Beautiful is the instrumental “Little Lady”, which leads the listening experience towards a Folk singer-songwriter style that is easy to grasp, while “La Piovra”, although acoustic, has a typically Hard Rock riff. Occasionally, among the songs, the theme of the virus emerges, between political and power allusions.
“Ostaggio” approaches French chanson; “Tea Time” is a break moment where the voice also performs excellent vocalizations.
“Lasciami andare” opens with a reference to Alberto Sordi's ironic song “E va!” and then immerses itself in a Mediterranean singer-songwriter style of the 1970s, as Pino Daniele would have done in “Terra Mia”. The performance returns with “Matrioska”, sung also in French.
“Sputa” is an analysis of how one lives their day, between playfulness, irony, and sagacity. Among the most intriguing songs is “Pesciolino”, musically and vocally close to the early Teresa De Sio, and as it happens, the album closes with “Mediterraneo”.
“Presunti Onesti” is a sharp look at society, behavior, politics, nature, and much more, all accompanied by the antics of the jester Maurizi, an unstoppable volcano of energy and vocal abilities.
