La musica nasce solitamente da uno stato d’animo e ne diventa rappresentante a tutti gli effetti. Non necessariamente è atta solo a scopi come il ballo, la distrazione, la protesta, ecc., bensì va a scavare persino nei meandri della mente. L’uomo la plasma a proprio piacimento e scopo; di conseguenza, nasce la necessità di sperimentare, una ricerca che vuole trovare la vibrazione ideale per vestire un determinato concetto.
A questo fine, oggi viene incontro la tecnologia con nuove sonorità che, se apportate a una strumentazione classica ed essenziale, come potrebbe essere ad esempio una tromba, danno adito a moderne soluzioni.
La sintesi è altresì un dono, soprattutto quando si è bombardati da un eccessivo uso di strumentazioni o arrangiamenti. Ovviamente, ciò dipende da quello che un artista vuole esprimere, se trattasi di colonna sonora o concept, è chiaro che nel caso specifico la soluzione migliore è quella della grande strumentazione compresa di arrangiamento. Questa è la magia della musica, lei si presta ad ogni tipo di scopo, sempre a disposizione della creatività umana. Non voglio entrare nel discorso AI, che sintetizzo in questa sede con un semplicissimo “imploderà” (mio parere personale e opinabile).
Chi si esprime con essenzialità trova un percorso suggestivo, un artista italiano che fa della musica una ricerca al servizio dell’emotività è Massimo Berizzi.
Il nome di certo non sarà sfuggito ai più appassionati di voi, che assoceranno giustamente il trombettista al progetto Unfolk di Alessandro Monti. Berizzi con “Microverticale” chiude un trittico musicale iniziato nel 2021 con “Undertrack” e proseguito nel 2024 con “Next Stop”.

L’edizione che accompagna il CD è cartonata e a sua volta essenziale, come la musica contenuta.
Sin da “Controluce” si evince che l’improvvisazione in questo modello sonoro gioca un ruolo fondamentale. Suoni in profondità, come se fossero nascosti in un angolo della mente, accolgono l’ascoltatore lasciandolo probabilmente interdetto nel dubbio della propria esistenza. Questa musica fa pensare, ed è probabilmente il suo scopo, così come i brani a seguire, in cui l’acustico passa il testimone all’elettronica. La tromba è generalmente gentile, sussurra note con eleganza e pacatezza.
Non parlo dello stesso genere musicale, ma parallelamente si può accostare questo nuovo lavoro di Berizzi alle visioni di Thom Yorke (Radiohead), fra situazioni eteree e altre embrionali. Da rimarcare che nel brano “Haiku” ci sono strumenti creati da Massimo Olla, qui denominati “[D]eath Bass” e “Ronin”, e suonati da Gabriele Bruzzolo.
“Microverticale” sa sorprendere, a tratti anche coccolare, ma sono tutti frangenti che hanno un’anima a sé, seppur concatenati fra di loro.
Questo è uno dei casi in cui un recensore non deve svelare altro, perché la bellezza sta negli occhi di chi guarda (Johann Wolfgang Goethe). MS

Music usually originates from a state of mind and becomes its representative in every respect. It's not necessarily intended only for purposes like dancing, distraction, or protest, but rather it digs deep into the depths of the mind. Humans shape it to their liking and purpose; consequently, the need to experiment arises, a search for the ideal vibration to convey a specific concept.
To this end, technology today offers new sonorities that, when applied to classical and essential instrumentation, such as a trumpet, give rise to modern solutions.
Synthesis is also a gift, especially when bombarded with excessive use of instrumentation or arrangements. Obviously, this depends on what an artist wants to express; if it's a soundtrack or concept, it's clear that in this specific case, the best solution is a large instrumentation including arrangements. This is the magic of music; it lends itself to every type of purpose, always at the service of human creativity. I won't delve into the AI discussion, which I summarize here with a simple "it will implode" (my personal and debatable opinion).
Those who express themselves with essentiality find a suggestive path; an Italian artist who makes music a research at the service of emotions is Massimo Berizzi.
The name will certainly not have escaped the most passionate among you, who will rightly associate the trumpeter with Alessandro Monti's Unfolk project. Berizzi with "Microverticale" closes a musical trilogy started in 2021 with "Undertrack" and continued in 2024 with "Next Stop".

The edition that accompanies the CD is hardcover and essential, just like the music it contains.
From "Controluce" onwards, it's clear that improvisation plays a fundamental role in this sound model. Deep sounds, as if hidden in a corner of the mind, welcome the listener, probably leaving them perplexed about their own existence. This music makes you think, and it's probably its purpose, just like the following tracks, where the acoustic passes the baton to electronics. The trumpet is generally gentle, whispering notes with elegance and calmness.
I'm not talking about the same musical genre, but in parallel, one can compare this new work by Berizzi to the visions of Thom Yorke (Radiohead), between ethereal and embryonic situations. It's worth noting that in the track "Haiku", there are instruments created by Massimo Olla, here called "[D]eath Bass" and "Ronin", and played by Gabriele Bruzzolo.
"Microverticale" knows how to surprise, sometimes even cuddle, but all these moments have a soul of their own, even if they're connected to each other.
This is one of those cases where a reviewer shouldn't reveal more, because beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder (Johann Wolfgang Goethe). MS
