Nell’antica Grecia, la parola Chaire veniva usata sia per salutare che per
congedarsi, con il significato di “stai bene” o “abbi cura di te”. Questo spirito
senza tempo di connessione e augurio è il cuore di questo album.
 I Cervello nacquero a Napoli nei primi anni ’70, nel pieno fiorire della scena del
rock  progressivo  italiano.  Accanto  a  gruppi  come Osanna, Premiata  Forneria
Marconi  (PFM) e Banco  del  Mutuo  Soccorso,  i  Cervello  seppero  distinguersi
con  una  voce  unica,  capace  di  fondere  tradizioni  mediterranee,  passaggi
sinfonici e una sperimentazione senza compromessi.
 
Il loro album d’esordio, Melos (1973), resta una delle gemme più preziose del
prog  italiano.  Incentrato  su  miti  dell’antica  Grecia,  univa  temi  mitologici  a
intrecci strumentali audaci, tessiture acustiche e soluzioni avanguardistiche. Pur
accolto con entusiasmo dalla critica, Melos rimase l’unico lavoro in studio della
band, che si sciolse poco dopo.
 
Nonostante  la  breve  parabola,  l’influenza  dei  Cervello  non  si  è  mai
spenta: Melos è stato riscoperto e amato da generazioni di appassionati in tutto
il mondo, fino a diventare un disco di culto.
 Oggi,  a  distanza  di  cinquant’anni,  i  Cervello  tornano  con Chaire,  prodotto
da Corrado Rustici, in uscita il 5 dicembre 2025 per Sony Music esclusivamente
in formato CD ed LP.

L’album è basato su brani scritti tra il 1974 e il 1983, ora finalmente arrangiati e
registrati nel corso degli ultimi quattro anni dai membri originali superstiti:
 
•  Corrado Rustici – chitarra, tastiere, voce
•  Antonio Spagnolo – basso, chitarra acustica, flauto dolce, voce
•  Giulio D’Ambrosio – flauto, sax, voce
•  Gianluigi Di Franco – voce solista
 
Con l’aggiunta di Roberto Porta alla batteria.
 
Voce e anima insostituibile dei Cervello, Gianluigi Di Franco ci ha lasciati nel
2005. Grazie ai più recenti progressi nel restauro audio, le sue interpretazioni,
salvate  da  fragili  bobine  a  due  tracce  e  cassette  dell’epoca,  hanno  potuto
rivivere,  permettendo  a Chaire di  esistere  come  omaggio  e  al  tempo  stesso
come nuova creazione.
“Negli  ultimi  cinquant’anni,  questi  brani  scritti  da  me  insieme  a  Gianluigi  Di
Franco, tra il 1974 e il 1982, erano rimasti congelati nel tempo: semplici idee
registrate su cassetta e su due tracce, destinate a diventare il secondo album
del Cervello. Dopo lo scioglimento del gruppo, invece, caddero in uno stato di
ibernazione  che,  paradossalmente,  ha  conservato  intatta  la  loro  purezza
originaria.” Dichiara Corrado Rustici aggiungendo: “Oggi, dopo tutto il nostro
vissuto  umano  e  musicale,  so  che  non  sarebbe  mai  stato  possibile  ricreare
l’innocenza  e  la  direzione  compositiva  di  quei  tempi.  Ancora  una  volta,  la
tecnologia apre nuove possibilità: ciò che è accaduto negli ultimi tre anni ci ha
permesso di far rivivere quelle idee, con la voce di Gianluigi. Per me è quasi un
miracolo ascoltare di nuovo la sua voce, ancora ingenuamente innocente, dare
forma alle melodie e restituire senso a questa pubblicazione e a questi brani. Ci
son  voluti  cinque  anni  per  mettere  a  punto  questi  sette  brani,  e  mi  auguro
davvero che tutti i fan che ci seguono dal 1973, in tutto il mondo, possano godere
di questa musica. È il nostro ringraziamento per averci seguito e sostenuto in
tutti questi anni.”
 
Per celebrare questo ritorno, Chaire viene pubblicato insieme a un documento
storico:  una registrazione  dal  vivo  del  1973,  che  immortala  i  Cervello
nell’esecuzione di brani dall’album di debutto e in un inedito strumentale.
 
Parallelamente a questa pubblicazione, verrà resa disponibile anche una nuova
edizione  rimasterizzata  di Melos (1973),  curata  separatamente,  per
completare idealmente il percorso artistico della band.
 
Due preziose testimonianze che collegano l’esordio leggendario della band con
la sua rinascita odierna.
 
Cinquant’anni dopo Melos, Chaire è testimonianza di amicizia, memoria e della
potenza intramontabile della musica. È un saluto e un commiato, un dono dal
passato, rinato per il presente.

In ancient Greece, the word Chaire was used both to greet and to bid farewell, meaning "be well" or "take care of yourself". This timeless spirit of connection and well-wishing is at the heart of this album.
Cervello was formed in Naples in the early 1970s, in the midst of the Italian progressive rock scene. Alongside groups like Osanna, Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM), and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Cervello distinguished itself with a unique voice, capable of fusing Mediterranean traditions, symphonic passages, and uncompromising experimentation.
Their debut album, Melos (1973), remains one of the most precious gems of Italian prog. Centered on myths of ancient Greece, it combined mythological themes with bold instrumental interplay, acoustic textures, and avant-garde solutions. Although well-received by critics, Melos remained the band's only studio work, as they disbanded shortly after.
Despite their brief trajectory, Cervello's influence has never faded: Melos has been rediscovered and loved by generations of fans worldwide, becoming a cult classic.
Today, fifty years later, Cervello returns with Chaire, produced by Corrado Rustici, set to be released on December 5, 2025, exclusively on CD and LP formats by Sony Music.

The album is based on songs written between 1974 and 1983, now finally arranged and recorded over the past four years by the surviving original members:

Corrado Rustici – guitar, keyboards, vocals
Antonio Spagnolo – bass, acoustic guitar, recorder, vocals
Giulio D'Ambrosio – flute, sax, vocals
Gianluigi Di Franco – lead vocals

With the addition of Roberto Porta on drums.

The irreplaceable voice and soul of Cervello, Gianluigi Di Franco, left us in 2005. Thanks to recent advances in audio restoration, his performances, saved from fragile two-track tapes and cassettes, have been able to come back to life, allowing Chaire to exist as both a tribute and a new creation.
"Over the past fifty years, these songs written by me and Gianluigi Di Franco between 1974 and 1982 had remained frozen in time: simple ideas recorded on cassette and two-track tapes, destined to become the second Cervello album. After the band's breakup, they fell into a state of hibernation that, paradoxically, preserved their original purity." Corrado Rustici declares, adding: "Today, after all our human and musical experiences, I know it would have been impossible to recreate the innocence and compositional direction of those times. Once again, technology opens up new possibilities: what happened over the past three years has allowed us to bring those ideas back to life, with Gianluigi's voice. For me, it's almost a miracle to hear his voice again, still innocently pure, shaping the melodies and giving meaning to this release and these songs. It took us five years to fine-tune these seven tracks, and I truly hope that all the fans who have followed us since 1973, worldwide, will enjoy this music. It's our thank you for following and supporting us all these years."
To celebrate this return, Chaire is released alongside a historical document: a 1973 live recording that captures Cervello performing tracks from their debut album and an unpublished instrumental piece.
Alongside this release, a new remastered edition of Melos (1973) will also be made available, curated separately, to ideally complete the band's artistic journey.
Two precious testaments that connect the band's legendary debut with their current rebirth.
Fifty years after Melos, Chaire is a testament to friendship, memory, and the timeless power of music. It's a greeting and a farewell, a gift from the past, reborn for the present.
