Ricordo come fosse oggi ciò che leggevo nelle riviste musicali degli anni ’80, quando il genere Heavy Metal emetteva i primi vagiti. In molte di queste si evidenziava il fatto che non avrebbe avuto lunga vita perché limitato in fantasia e grezzo per sonorità, di conseguenza relegato a un pubblico decisamente di nicchia. Personalmente, scrivendo poi negli anni in riviste come Flash e Rock Hard, ho avuto modo di seguire attentamente lo sviluppo che ha intrapreso, tanto da constatare la sua sorprendente crescita. Alla faccia del “durerà poco”, l’Heavy Metal giunge ai nostri giorni vivo e vegeto, anche in Italia.
Il sound si è saputo aggiornare, sviluppare e arricchire, bene lo sanno anche i torinesi Feary Tales.
Si formano nel 2006 dalle ceneri della band Overdrive e nel tempo rilasciano un demo nel 2008, tre album in studio e un EP. I dischi sono “Acustica- Live In Studio” (2016), “Feary Tales” (EP – 2019), “MMXXII” (2022) e questo nuovo “神风=Vento Divino”.
I Feary Tales non si limitano a dare voce all’Heavy Metal, bensì gli pongono nuova veste, arricchendolo di nuove cure; Growl alternato a parti Clear sia in lingua inglese che italiana, cambi di ritmo e ottima incisione.
La formazione, composta da Marco Chiariglione (voce), Paolo Tabacchetti (chitarre), Marco Vicenza (basso) e Costantino Perin (batteria), nelle dieci canzoni dell’album (incluse intro e outro), dimostra un passo in avanti rispetto a “MMXXII”.
La splendida copertina di Annette Fletcher è compresa in un elegante formato CD digipack, un atto di rispetto graditissimo da chi ancora ama collezionare musica.
“La Ginestra” mette in chiaro sin da subito la volontà di non essere banali, il riff è semplice e marcato ma spezzato da cambi di ritmo, il cantato è ricercato e ben si sposa con le atmosfere grevi che compongono il brano. In evidenza la sezione ritmica, valorizzata da una buonissima incisione. Un arpeggio di chitarra elettrica inizia il singolo “LightBlind” e mi tornano in mente certi atavici riff dei maestri Judas Priest, quelli dei frangenti più pacati. Il resto s’immerge nel Metal degli anni ’80/’90, cadenzato e oscuro quanto basta per porre un velo di tensione spazzata via solamente dal solo di chitarra. Divertente l’alternarsi di Growl e Clean voice, il pezzo è cantato in lingua inglese. Il brano non sfigurerebbe nella discografia dei Candlemass.
Un pugno allo stomaco la title track “神风=Vento Divino”, vetrina per le capacità balistiche di Vicenza e Perin.
“(The FearyTale of) RoXXXanne” è la cover della famosa “Roxanne” dei Police, qui intelligentemente la band la fa propria, senza grandi richiami all’originale. Sale il ritmo con “In Tinta Caligine”, immaginate il medioevo con le chitarre elettriche distorte e un ritmo accelerato. Nuovamente la chitarra elettrica regala ottimi frangenti solisti. È sempre notte, anche in “La Luminosa Notte Dell'Anima”, piccola chicca dell’album.
Violentissima “Come Inside”, supportata da un growl convincente, così intrigante il ritornello semplice e diretto, supportato da un andamento che è gioia per i fans dei Celtic Frost.
“AdventComes” è il degno suggello di un album a tratti sorprendente e comunque pieno di grande energia.
Se avete paura dell’oscurità e delle “fiabe terribili”, esorcizzatevi con questo album fresco, scorrevole e ricolmo di buone melodie di base. L’Heavy Metal italiano gode di buona salute grazie anche ai Feary Tales, vestiti di grande personalità. MS

I remember like it was yesterday what I read in music magazines in the 80s, when the Heavy Metal genre was just starting out. Many of these magazines highlighted the fact that it wouldn't have a long life due to its limited fantasy and raw sound, and would therefore be relegated to a niche audience. Personally, writing for magazines like Flash and Rock Hard over the years, I've had the chance to follow its development closely and witness its surprising growth. Despite the "it won't last long" predictions, Heavy Metal has reached our days alive and well, even in Italy.
The sound has managed to update, develop, and enrich itself, and the Turin-based band Feary Tales knows it well.
Formed in 2006 from the ashes of the band Overdrive, Feary Tales has released a demo in 2008, three studio albums, and an EP. The discs are “Acustica- Live In Studio” (2016), “Feary Tales” (EP – 2019), “MMXXII” (2022), and this new “神风=Vento Divino”.
Feary Tales doesn't just give voice to Heavy Metal; they give it a new look, enriching it with new care; growl alternates with clear parts in both English and Italian, rhythm changes, and excellent recording.
The lineup, composed of Marco Chiariglione (vocals), Paolo Tabacchetti (guitars), Marco Vicenza (bass), and Costantino Perin (drums), demonstrates a step forward in the ten songs of the album (including intro and outro) compared to “MMXXII”.
The beautiful cover art by Annette Fletcher is included in an elegant CD digipack format, a respectful gesture appreciated by those who still enjoy collecting music.
“La Ginestra” immediately shows the band's desire not to be banal; the riff is simple and marked but broken up by rhythm changes; the singing is researched and pairs well with the heavy atmospheres that make up the song. The rhythmic section stands out, enhanced by an excellent recording. An electric guitar arpeggio starts the single “LightBlind”, and I'm reminded of certain atavistic riffs by the masters Judas Priest, those of the more peaceful moments. The rest immerses itself in the Metal of the 80s/90s, rhythmic and dark enough to create a veil of tension swept away only by the guitar solo. The alternation of growl and clean voice is entertaining; the piece is sung in English. The song wouldn't be out of place in the Candlemass discography.
The title track “神风=Vento Divino” is a punch to the stomach, showcasing Vicenza and Perin's ballistic abilities.
“(The FearyTale of) RoXXXanne” is a cover of the famous “Roxanne” by The Police, and here the band intelligently makes it their own without major references to the original. The rhythm picks up with “In Tinta Caligine”; imagine the Middle Ages with distorted electric guitars and an accelerated rhythm. Again, the electric guitar delivers excellent solo moments. It's always night, even in “La Luminosa Notte Dell'Anima”, a small gem of the album.
“Come Inside” is violent, supported by a convincing growl; the simple and direct chorus is intriguing, supported by a rhythm that's a joy for Celtic Frost fans.
“AdventComes” is the worthy seal of an album that's surprising at times and full of great energy.
If you're afraid of the darkness and “terrible fairy tales”, exorcise yourself with this fresh, smooth, and rich album full of good basic melodies. Italian Heavy Metal is in good health, thanks in part to Feary Tales, who are dressed in great personality. MS
