Con mia grande sorpresa, ritrovo i tedeschi Everon in attività. In realtà non hanno mai preso la decisione di un vero e proprio stop, questo anche a detta di Oliver  Philipps: "La band non ha mai smesso. È stata una pausa".
In questi anni il polistrumentista e cantante ha condotto la carriera del produttore per artisti come Delain, Charlotte Wessels, i Progressive Metaller Ad Infinitum e Wolverine, i gruppi Prog italiani The Oneira, Leah, Angel e Imperia. In attività discografica dal 1993, gli Everon hanno rilasciato sette album in studio, di cui l’ultimo “North” sedici anni fa nel 2008.
“Shells” è l’ottavo.
Nel frattempo accadono anche fatti drammatici, come la dipartita per arresto cardiaco del batterista e co-fondatore Christian Moos. Per l’ultimazione dell’album si avvalgono della partecipazione di Jason Gianni, mentre alla voce troviamo la moglie di Oliver, Helena Iren Michaelsen (cantante di Trail Of Tears, Imperia e Angel), ma anche Leah al microfono nel brano “Pinocchio's Nose”.
Quindi oggi la formazione Everon è la seguente: Oliver Philipps (voce, pianoforte, tastiere, chitarre, orchestrazioni, produttore), Ulli Hoever (chitarre), e Schymy (basso).
La musica Everon si è sempre contraddistinta per energia ed esuberanza, un Prog particolare, vicino all’Heavy e in qualche tratto anche all’AOR, con in mente sempre la volontà di creare brani orecchiabili e tecnici. Non esulano infatti nella loro carriera delle suite, come quella che troviamo nella chiusura dell’album intitolata “Flesh”. La canzone in questione risale all’anno 2002, tratta dall’album omonimo, ed è rivisitata probabilmente per donargli il giusto spolvero alla ricerca di un merito aggiunto.
Dodici le canzoni a iniziare dal primo singolo “No Embrace”. Immediata è la sensazione che gli Everon non siano mutati di una virgola, il brano è quindi infarcito da robuste sonorità e un cantato dal sentore Folk. Ogni volta che ascolto questa band ho sempre sensazioni di apertura mentale verso una positività aleggiante che giunge intrinseca. Riflessiva la ballata “Broken Angels”, voce e piano iniziale con le coralità di Helena Iren Michaelsen a seguito. Il ritmo sale e diventa tutto epico. Quando parlo di belle melodie, ascoltate “Travels” e avrete un buon esempio di classe ed eleganza. Il tempo sembra essere tornato indietro grazie a queste sonorità eterne legate sia agli anni ’80 sia ’90.
Fra tutti i brani che hanno una continuità qualitativa di certo inusuale per i nostri tempi (abituati noi ad ascoltare album con brani di riempimento), nomino il singolo “Guilty As Charged” dove si parla di autoanalisi e rimpianti, la sentita "Until We Meet Again" rivolta a Moss, “Pinocchio's Nose”, Monster” e la già nominata suite di quasi quindici minuti “Flesh”.  
La musica degli Everon fa stare bene, illumina, carica, riscalda il cuore. Ben ritrovati, e il mio pensiero va inesorabilmente a Christian Moos, il merito come sempre è anche il tuo. Indimenticabile. MS

To my surprise, I find Germany's Everon back in activity. They never actually made the decision of a real stop, this also according to Oliver Philipps: “The band never stopped. It was a break.”
Over the years the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist has led the producer's career for such artists as Delain, Charlotte Wessels, Progressive metallers Ad Infinitum and Wolverine, and Italian Prog bands The Oneira, Leah, Angel, and Imperia. In recording activity since 1993, Everon have released seven studio albums, most recently “North” sixteen years ago in 2008.
“Shells” is the eighth.
Meanwhile, dramatic events also happen, such as the death from cardiac arrest of drummer and co-founder Christian Moos. For the completion of the album they enlist the participation of Jason Gianni, while on vocals we find Oliver's wife Helena Iren Michaelsen (singer of Trail Of Tears, Imperia and Angel), but also Leah on the microphone in the song “Pinocchio's Nose”.
So today the Everon lineup is as follows: Oliver Philipps (vocals, piano, keyboards, guitars, orchestrations, producer), Ulli Hoever (guitars), and Schymy (bass).
Everon's music has always been distinguished by energy and exuberance, a particular Prog, close to Heavy and in some traits also to AOR, with in mind always the desire to create catchy and technical songs. Indeed, suites, such as the one we find on the album's closing track titled “Flesh”, do not escape their career. The song in question dates back to the year 2002, taken from the album of the same name, and is revisited probably to give it the right dusting in search of added merit.

 Immediate is the feeling that Everon have not changed one iota, the song is then infused with robust sounds and a Folk hint of singing. Whenever I listen to this band I always have feelings of open-mindedness toward a hovering positivity that comes intrinsically. Reflective the ballad “Broken Angels”, opening vocals and piano with Helena Iren Michaelsen's choruses following. The pace picks up and it all becomes epic. When I talk about beautiful melodies, listen to “Travels” and you have a good example of class and elegance. Time seems to have turned back thanks to these eternal sounds related to both the 80s and 90s.
Among all the tracks that have a qualitative continuity certainly unusual for our times (accustomed us to listening to albums with filler tracks), I nominate the single “Guilty As Charged” where they talk about self-analysis and regrets, the heartfelt “Until We Meet Again” addressed to Moss, “Pinocchio's Nose”, Monster” and the already mentioned almost fifteen-minute suite ”Flesh”.
Everon's music makes one feel good, enlightens, charges, warms the heart. Welcome back, and my thoughts go inexorably to Christian Moos, the credit as always is also yours. Unforgettable. MS
