Nell'intrigato mondo del Rock Progressivo italiano degli anni '70, abbiamo assistito a numerosi fenomeni mordi e fuggi, spesso dalle realizzazioni a dir poco discutibili. Eppure un certo fascino c'è sempre, non solo per i collezionisti disposti a tirare fuori centinaia di euro per una copia di questi dischi stampati generalmente in poche unità (in questo caso 5.000), ma soprattutto per gli stranieri che a differenza nostra, apprezzano molto di più quest’operato (vedi Giappone). Il Progressive italiano gode dunque di un certo seguito, specialmente oggi più che allora in diretta, grazie ad internet (altrimenti questi lp non sarebbero mai stati ascoltati, solo che da pochi appassionati) e alla meticolosa Mellow Records, sempre in prima linea quando c'è da scommettere su piccoli gioielli passati al tempo in sordina.
I milanesi Alusa Fallax hanno la classica formazione Prog, con giunta di flauto tanto in voga in quegli anni nel Rock, ma diciamo di fiati in generale. Sono così composti da Augusto "Duty" Cirla (voce, batteria, flauto dolce), Guido Gabet (chitarra, voce), Massimo Parretti (tastiere), Mario Cirla (flauto, sax, corno, voce) e Guido Cirla (basso, voce).
Nel 1969 si formano e propongono due singoli, ma è nel 1974 che realizzano questo bellissimo lp dal lungo titolo "Intorno Alla Mia Cattiva Educazione", purtroppo passato inosservato dalla quasi totalità degli estimatori del genere. Eppure un certo interesse attorno a loro ha girato, non avrebbe fatto da gruppo spalla nel 1974 stesso ai Curved Air a Novara e neppure avrebbero partecipato a svariati festival, come ad esempio quelli Pop di Roma e Napoli. Eppure anche nel loro caso, come in moltissimi altri analoghi del periodo, qualcosa non ha funzionato. La scena cui s’ispirano in base ai loro gusti musicali è quella classica Progressiva dettata da artisti come Emerson Lake e Palmer, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson e poi anche Beatles, Deep Purple e molti altri. Se poi in riassunto andiamo a sentire cosa scaturisce dalla loro musica non è altro che un risultato molto vicino a quello del Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso.
Il disco scorre come un concept, una sceneggiatura più che tasselli a se stanti, la voce di Augusto è roca e graffiante, non molto distante da quella di Alvaro Fella dei Jumbo. Tengo a sottolineare la bellezza del brano title track "Intorno Alla Mia Cattiva Educazione", dove il flauto sale dolcemente in cattedra per poi dare spazio ad una vigorosa fuga strumentale fra tastiere e cambi di tempo anche vicini al Jazz. Solo di flauto richiamano inevitabilmente anche i Jethro Tull. Tuttavia non è un momento che eccelle, è l'insieme che cammina inanellato senza sosta e con saggia ponderatezza fra vigore e dolcezza.
In realtà gli Alusa Fallax hanno pure preparato altro materiale successivo a quegli anni, ma l'avvento della Discomusic e del Punk ha fatto sì che la decisione fu di eclissare il progetto e la band. Un vero peccato, perché a differenza di molti altri "mordi e fuggi", qui di materia prima ce n'è tanta!
In conclusione consiglio vivamente l'ascolto di quest’album per godere a pieno del profumo dei nostrani anni '70, un momento magico che non tornerà più, neppure se vogliamo imitarlo, i contesti sociali sono improponibilmente distanti. Oggi manca l'aggregazione, scansata da una tecnologia social network che ci fa sembrare apparentemente vicini, ma che non ci consente neppure di toccarci ed abbracciarci. Il freddo futuro è qui, con i suoi pro e i suoi contro, basta soltanto saperne cogliere il meglio. MS

In the intricate world of Italian Progressive Rock of the 1970s, we witnessed numerous "bite and run" phenomena, often with realizations that were at least debatable. Yet, there is always a certain charm, not only for collectors willing to shell out hundreds of euros for a copy of these records generally printed in small quantities (in this case, 5,000), but especially for foreigners who, unlike us, appreciate this work much more (see Japan). Italian Progressive Rock therefore enjoys a certain following, especially today more than then, directly thanks to the internet (otherwise, these LPs would never have been heard, except by a few enthusiasts) and the meticulous Mellow Records, always at the forefront when it comes to betting on small past jewels.
The Milanese Alusa Fallax have the classic Prog formation, with the addition of the flute, which was very popular in those years in Rock, but let's say winds in general. They are composed of Augusto "Duty" Cirla (vocals, drums, recorder), Guido Gabet (guitar, vocals), Massimo Parretti (keyboards), Mario Cirla (flute, sax, horn, vocals), and Guido Cirla (bass, vocals).
In 1969, they formed and proposed two singles, but it was in 1974 that they realized this beautiful LP with the long title "Intorno Alla Mia Cattiva Educazione", unfortunately overlooked by almost all genre enthusiasts. Yet, there was some interest around them; they wouldn't have been the opening act for Curved Air in 1974 in Novara, nor would they have participated in various festivals, such as the Pop festivals in Rome and Naples. Yet, also in their case, as in many other similar cases of the period, something didn't work out. The scene they draw inspiration from, based on their musical tastes, is the classic Progressive scene dictated by artists like Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and then also Beatles, Deep Purple, and many others. If we then go listen to what comes out of their music, it's nothing but a result very close to that of Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso.
The disc flows like a concept, a script more than standalone pieces, Augusto's voice is rough and scratchy, not very far from Alvaro Fella's voice from Jumbo. I want to underline the beauty of the title track "Intorno Alla Mia Cattiva Educazione", where the flute gently rises to center stage to then give way to a vigorous instrumental fugue between keyboards and changes of tempo, also close to Jazz. Just the flute inevitably recalls Jethro Tull. However, it's not a moment that stands out, it's the whole that moves along without stopping and with wise ponderation between vigor and sweetness.
In reality, Alusa Fallax also prepared other material subsequent to those years, but the advent of Disco music and Punk made them decide to eclipse the project and the band. A real shame, because unlike many other "bite and run" cases, there's a lot of raw material here!
In conclusion, I strongly recommend listening to this album to fully enjoy the scent of our 1970s, a magical moment that will never come back, not even if we want to imitate it, the social contexts are impossibly distant. Today, aggregation is lacking, dodged by social network technology that makes us seem apparently close but doesn't even allow us to touch and hug each other. The cold future is here, with its pros and cons, it's just a matter of knowing how to get the best out of it. MS.
