Oggi la realtà di un cantautore non è agevole come in passato, vuoi perché passano certe mode, vuoi perché la gente non si sofferma più ad ascoltare qualcosa d’impegnato. Per questo serve un buon equilibrio fra buone melodie da ricordare e testi non banali. Questa formula, che definirei addirittura “magica”, non è facile da realizzare; la conferma si ha guardando le classifiche di vendite sonore, dove del cantautore praticamente non vi è quasi più traccia. Chi ha la fortuna di possedere questa formula (i soliti grandi nomi) si guarda bene dal non abbandonarla.
Poi ci sono le nuove generazioni che, come salmoni, tentano la risalita in questa cascata di uscite alimentate da IA e programmi PC.
 E sì, oggi la vita di un cantautore non è agevole.
Andy Micarelli è di Chieti e collabora spesso con il suo collega romano Aleco, avendogli prodotto cinque album in qualità di arrangiatore, questo subito per inquadrare il contesto sonoro in cui si adopera.
Ma la sua carriera musicale ha origini ben più radicate: si diploma in sassofono presso il conservatorio “Luisa D’Annunzio” di Pescara, collabora con Marco Contento, partecipa come tastierista e corista al tour di Lighea nel 2011, produce un live in duo con il cantautore romano Mauro Di Maggio e supporta le date in tour della storica band di Rock progressivo Le Orme.
Da solista rilascia quattro album in studio: ”Ritratti”, “Non Me Ne Frega E Canto”, “Sogni E Passaggi” e “Dreamy”. Oggi “Andyamo”, attraverso le sue undici canzoni, ci propone un Micarelli maturo, dalle idee chiare e dai molti concetti da esprimere, prorpio per questo il CD è accompagnato con un libro in cui poter leggere le spiegazioni e i testi dei brani, oltre che godere delle foto d’accompagnamento. Così l’autore descrive il concept nella prima pagina del libro: “Questo disco esplora a fondo la mia vita, grazie a una visione chiara delle cose e al bisogno fondamentale di tornare sempre a casa attraverso i ricordi, gli affetti più cari, il senso di appartenenza e l’introspezione. In questo album non racconto storie qualsiasi, ma la mia storia”.
Si inizia con un grido di protesta: “Basta”. Qui l’autore mette in luce quelle amicizie tossiche di quelle persone che ti cercano soltanto quando hanno bisogno di qualcosa (a chi non capita?). Il testo conduce l’ascoltatore a riflettere sul senso della vita e la scelta delle persone che ti devono stare vicino durante il percorso terreno: quelle sincere.
Lo stile su cui si basa la musica è quello prettamente italico degli anni ’80, con piccole schegge di Orme e quel “La La La” che ricorda inevitabilmente il mitico Ivan Graziani; un connubio intrigante che fa tornare la memoria ai tempi che furono. Aleco partecipa come voce narrante al telefono che chiede all’amico il classico favore.
“Viola” è dedicata alla secondogenita di Micarelli, quell’amore che costruisce e rafforza ogni cosa. Il piano apre il brano, che vuole essere una ballata ma che in realtà possiede grandi aperture Pop sopra un ritmo semplice e ballabile, in cui il ritornello è il centro focale.
Se oggi siamo quel che siamo, il merito va attribuito principalmente alle nostre radici, il passato è la saggezza su cui attingere. Questo è il tema trattato in “Radici Preziose”. Qui il cantautorato è quello che ha fatto da scheletro a tutti i dischi solisti dell’autore. Testo e musica fortemente legati fra loro.
“Fammi Volare” affronta il classico “carpe diem”, prendere a due mani il coraggio nella vita di tutti i giorni e poi lasciarsi andare, perché, come dice Micarelli, la vita è un’avventura che richiede spontaneità. Qui l’elettronica viene a supporto nella ritmica, così la bella voce dell’ospite Alessandra Dambra.
Il senso di appartenenza citato in precedenza fuoriesce nei testi di “Teate”, canzone dedicata alla sua Chieti. Essa vuole essere una feroce difesa della città, spesso sminuita e denigrata dai tanti detrattori che oramai, anche per moda, ne parlano male, malgrado siano abitanti stessi del luogo. La musica si sbroglia come una canzone d’amore, perché lo è a tutti gli effetti. Un bell’esempio di positività che andrebbe attuato da tutti noi, ognuno per le proprie radici.
E poi la solitudine. In “Silenzio” viene analizzata l’opportunità di scavare nei nostri pensieri distaccati dal mondo che ci circonda… Senza distrazioni.
Si ha bisogno anche di silenzio.
L’animo gentile di Micarelli è ora a nudo, in pasto all’ascoltatore. Il movimento è prettamente incentrato su tastiere e voce.
Così nella vita c’è sempre un momento in cui ci si deve rialzare, e l’immortale Wrestler Hulk Hogan viene preso come un esempio di riferimento nel brano “Hulkmania”. Il pezzo giustamente è elettrico, vigoroso, con la chitarra elettrica che sfocia nell’Hard Rock; non può essere altrimenti.
Il disco di inediti si conclude con la dedica a Franco Battiato, suo maestro e punto di riferimento musicale. “A Franco” è uno strumentale epicamente sinfonizzato.
A questo punto ci sono tre brani scritti in tempi passati: “Come Un Oceano” nel 2023, “Semplicità” nel 2017 e “Come Ti Vorrei” del 2014 in versione remix.
“Come Un Oceano” è dedicata alla primogenita Aurora. Solare e serena nell’incedere, mi ricorda qualcosa delle Orme più sognanti.
“Semplicità” è uscito come singolo nel 2017 e tratta l’innamoramento nella sua genuinità. Melodicamente morbido, accarezza l’ascoltatore con interventi di piano e orchestrazioni.
“Come Ti Vorrei” è scanzonata. La prima bozza venne realizzata in musicassetta nel 2002, poi incisa nell’album “Non Mi Frega E Canto” e pure dal gruppo Latoscuro con la voce di Francesca Epifani.
In conclusione, “Andyamo” ha come base la sincerità, quella di un autore che ama la musica e la crea con intelligenza e gusto. MS

Today, the reality of a singer-songwriter is not as easy as it was in the past, whether it's because certain trends pass or because people no longer take the time to listen to something meaningful. This requires a good balance between catchy melodies and non-trivial lyrics. This formula, which I would define as "magical", is not easy to achieve; confirmation can be seen in the sound sales charts, where the singer-songwriter is practically non-existent. Those who are fortunate enough to possess this formula (the usual big names) make sure not to abandon it.
Then there are the new generations that, like salmon, try to swim upstream in this cascade of releases fueled by AI and PC programs. And yes, today the life of a singer-songwriter is not easy.
Andy Micarelli is from Chieti and often collaborates with his Roman colleague Aleco, having produced five albums for him as an arranger, which immediately frames the sonic context in which he operates.
But his musical career has much deeper roots: he graduated in saxophone from the "Luisa D'Annunzio" conservatory in Pescara, collaborated with Marco Contento, participated as a keyboardist and backing vocalist in Lighea's tour in 2011, produced a live duo with Roman singer-songwriter Mauro Di Maggio, and supported the tour dates of the historic progressive rock band Le Orme.
As a solo artist, he has released four studio albums: "Ritratti", "Non Me Ne Frega E Canto", "Sogni E Passaggi", and "Dreamy". Today, "Andyamo", through its eleven songs, offers a mature Micarelli with clear ideas and many concepts to express, which is why the CD is accompanied by a book containing explanations and lyrics, as well as accompanying photos. This is how the author describes the concept in the first page of the book: "This album explores my life in depth, thanks to a clear vision of things and the fundamental need to always return home through memories, dearest affections, sense of belonging, and introspection. In this album, I don't tell just any stories, but my story".
It starts with a cry of protest: "Basta". Here, the author highlights those toxic friendships where people only reach out when they need something (who hasn't experienced this?). The lyrics lead the listener to reflect on the meaning of life and the choice of people who should be close to you during your earthly journey: those who are sincere.
The style on which the music is based is typically Italian from the '80s, with small fragments of Orme and that "La La La" that inevitably recalls the legendary Ivan Graziani; an intriguing combination that brings back memories of the past. Aleco participates as a narrating voice on the phone, asking his friend for a classic favor.
"Viola" is dedicated to Micarelli's second daughter, that love that builds and strengthens everything. The piano opens the song, which wants to be a ballad but actually has great pop openings on a simple and danceable rhythm, where the refrain is the focal point.
If we are what we are today, the credit goes mainly to our roots; the past is the wisdom from which to draw. This is the theme addressed in "Radici Preziose". Here, the singer-songwriter style is what has formed the backbone of all the author's solo albums. Lyrics and music are strongly linked.
"Fammi Volare" tackles the classic "carpe diem", taking courage in everyday life and then letting go, because, as Micarelli says, life is an adventure that requires spontaneity. Here, electronics support the rhythm, along with the beautiful voice of guest Alessandra Dambra.
The sense of belonging mentioned earlier emerges in the lyrics of "Teate", a song dedicated to his Chieti. It aims to be a fierce defense of the city, often belittled and denigrated by many detractors who, even as a trend, speak badly of it despite being residents themselves. The music unravels like a love song, because it is one in every sense. A great example of positivity that should be adopted by all of us, each for our own roots.
And then there's solitude. In "Silenzio", the opportunity to dig into our thoughts detached from the world around us is analyzed... Without distractions. One also needs silence. Micarelli's gentle soul is now laid bare, for the listener to consume. The movement is primarily centered on keyboards and voice.
Thus, in life, there is always a moment when one must get back up, and the immortal wrestler Hulk Hogan is taken as a reference example in the song "Hulkmania". The piece is justifiably electric, vigorous, with the electric guitar flowing into Hard Rock; it couldn't be otherwise.
The album of new songs concludes with a dedication to Franco Battiato, his master and musical reference point. "A Franco" is an epically symphonized instrumental.
At this point, there are three songs written in the past: "Come Un Oceano" in 2023, "Semplicità" in 2017, and "Come Ti Vorrei" from 2014 in a remix version.
"Come Un Oceano" is dedicated to his eldest daughter Aurora. Solar and serene in its progression, it reminds me of something from the dreamier Orme.
"Semplicità" was released as a single in 2017 and deals with falling in love in its genuineness. Melodically soft, it caresses the listener with piano interventions and orchestrations.
"Come Ti Vorrei" is lighthearted. The first draft was made on cassette in 2002, then recorded in the album "Non Mi Frega E Canto" and also by the group Latoscuro with the voice of Francesca Epifani.
In conclusion, "Andyamo" is based on sincerity, that of an author who loves music and creates it with intelligence and taste. MS
