Il Rock Progressivo in Germania sta vivendo un periodo di ottimo fermento, numerose le band più o meno note ai fans che si passano la staffetta attraverso realizzazioni sempre interessanti e rispettose sia dei tempi che furono che del presente.
Con il primo album live della carriera, i Polis si rivolgono proprio a un pubblico amante di certe sonorità legate specialmente alle tastiere come l’Hammond, il pianoforte Fender-Rhodes e gli strumenti sintetizzatori analogici.
La band formata da Christian Roscher (voce), Christoph Kästner (chitarra), Marius Leicht (tastiere),
Andreas Sittig (basso), e Sascha Bormann (batteria), è da tredici anni attiva in sede live, proprio per questo ha ritenuto opportuno fare una buona registrazione professionale per darla in pasto ai propri estimatori. Durante l’ascolto degli otto brani contenuti nell’album intitolato “UnterwegsI”, ci si può imbattere anche in due inediti, “Die Einsamkeit” e “Das Erste Leuchtfeuer”. L’edizione cartonata che accompagna il supporto ottico, contiene un libretto rappresentante le foto della band in bianco e nero, sia dei singoli componenti che della band in totale. Il disco è registrato al Woodstock Forever Festival di Waffenrod e all'Alte Kaffeerösterei di Plauen.
Il cantato in lingua tedesca apre un pezzo d’atmosfera intitolato “Tropfen”, un Prog contaminato dal Doom nordico. La parte centrale è un trip psichedelico crescente, con una chitarra elettrica padrona di elargire un assolo ipnotico. In questi undici minuti si può apprezzare sin da subito l’anima live dei Polis. Come dentro ad una macchina del tempo, l’ascoltatore viene trasportato negli anni ’70 anche in “Gedanken”, composizione che ha il potere di farti fare l’ascolto a occhi chiusi, immaginate i Moody Blues o i Prochol Harum cimentarsi nella Psichedelia, ma non sono esclusi riferimenti al presente, come per esempio nei confronti dei Porcupine Tree.
Ed è la volta dell’inedito “Die Einsamkeit”, un movimento pacato dove la chitarra riesce a tessere note floydiane, e ancora una volta l’anima sognante della band viene allo scoperto. Sale il ritmo nel secondo inedito “Das Erste Leuchtfeuer”, qui una corazza più dura ricopre le atmosfere sempre velate da un suono oscuro.
Tratto dal terzo e ultimo lavoro “Weltglang” del 2020 sopraggiunge “Eine Liebe, Tausend Leben”, anche lui immerso in un trip lisergico in cui le melodie comunque sono rispettate. Tre sono gli album in studio della band, “Enis” (2011), “Sein” (2014) e appunto “Weltglang” (2020). Segue “Danke” tratto da “Enis”, un pezzo maggiormente solare rispetto quanto ascoltato sino ad ora grazie ad un ritmo di basso quasi Reagge e la chitarra elettrica intenta sempre nel suo infinito lavoro psichedelico. C’è anche una suite di quattordici minuti, “Sag Mir” estratta dal primo album, ricca di cambi di tempo e di quegli ingredienti che fanno da pilastro al termine Rock Progressivo. Il disco si chiude con “Blumenkaft”, un loro classico estratto da “Sein” ricco di adrenalina.
Le sensazioni provate all’ascolto mi riportano al periodo dei fiori, dove l’amore è stato il punto focale assieme alla musica, ma i Polis sono di più, in quanto negli anni hanno assorbito anche l’evolversi del corso musicale, memorizzandone i passaggi a loro consoni per lo stile. Un live per chi vuole passare un’ora fuori da questo mondo attuale. MS

Progressive Rock in Germany is experiencing a period of excellent ferment, numerous bands more or less known to fans passing the relay through always interesting and respectful realizations of both the times that were and the present.
With the first live album of their career, Polis addresses precisely an audience that loves certain sounds especially related to keyboards such as Hammond, Fender-Rhodes piano and analog synthesizer instruments.
The band consisting of Christian Roscher (vocals), Christoph Kästner (guitar), Marius Leicht (keyboards),
Andreas Sittig (bass), and Sascha Bormann (drums), has been active in live performance for thirteen years, which is precisely why they saw fit to make a good professional recording to give it to their admirers. While listening to the eight tracks contained in the album entitled "UnterwegsI," one can also come across two previously unreleased tracks, "Die Einsamkeit" and "Das Erste Leuchtfeuer." The hardback edition that accompanies the optical media, contains a booklet representing black and white photos of the band, both of the individual members and of the band in total. The disc is recorded at the Woodstock Forever Festival in Waffenrod and at the Alte Kaffeerösterei in Plauen.
German-language vocals open an atmospheric piece entitled "Tropfen," a Prog contaminated with Nordic Doom. The middle part is a growing psychedelic trip, with a master electric guitar bestowing a hypnotic solo. In these eleven minutes one can immediately appreciate the live soul of Polis. As if inside a time machine, the listener is transported to the 1970s also in "Gedanken," a composition that has the power to make you do the listening with your eyes closed, imagine the Moody Blues or Prochol Harum trying their hand at Psychedelia, but references to the present are not excluded, as for example towards Porcupine Tree.
And it is the turn of the unreleased "Die Einsamkeit," a calm movement where the guitar manages to weave Floydian notes, and once again the dreamy soul of the band comes out. The tempo rises in the second unreleased "Das Erste Leuchtfeuer," here a harder armor covers the atmospheres always veiled by a dark sound.
Taken from the third and final work "Weltglang" from 2020 comes "Eine Liebe, Tausend Leben," also immersed in a lysergic trip in which the melodies however are respected. Three are the band's studio albums, "Enis" (2011), "Sein" (2014) and precisely "Weltglang" (2020). "Danke" from "Enis" follows, a more sunny piece than what we have heard so far thanks to an almost Reagge-like bass rhythm and the electric guitar always intent on its endless psychedelic work. There is also a fourteen-minute suite, "Sag Mir" excerpted from the first album, full of tempo changes and those ingredients that form the mainstay of the term Progressive Rock. The album closes with "Blumenkaft," a classic of theirs taken from "Sein" full of adrenaline.
The sensations felt when listening take me back to the flowery period, where love was the focal point along with music, but Polis are more, as over the years they have also absorbed the evolving musical course, memorizing the passages that suit their style. A live show for those who want to spend an hour out of this current world. MS
