NAGUAL
- And Once The Storm Is Over…
Orzorock Music
Genere: Hard Rock / Grunge
Supporto: cd / vinile / Digital
In
e oggi ritornano con “And Once The Storm Is Over…”.
Dopo
(chitarra), Giulio Armanetti (basso), Claudio Bianchi (batteria), G. Fabrizio
Defacqz (tastiere e voce), e Sara Battisteri (voce).
Il
Sabbath e molte altre ancora.
“And Once The Storm Is Over…”
Battisteri. “Too Far Gone!”
l’accoppiata Armanetti/Bianchi lavora all’unisono mentre le tastiere in stile AOR,
riempiono il suono rendendolo maggiormente accattivante. Ci si può scatenare in
“Life Kills You”, canzone perfetta per le esibizioni dal vivo con un riff
irresistibile. Fra i brani che maggiormente ho apprezzato, nomino “Where
suono moderno, ciò porta freschezza all’insieme che defluisce con estremo
piacere. Un disco da ascoltare in tutti i luoghi, specialmente in auto durante
un bel viaggio. MS

NAGUAL - And Once The Storm Is Over...
Orzorock Music
Genre: Hard Rock / Grunge
Support: cd / vinyl / Digital
Good old Hard Rock never betrays, and it is a
pleasure, even in our times, to meet bands dedicated to this kind of sound, as
a sign of continuity after half a century of survival.
In Italy, one of the most recurring names is Nagual, a
formation from the province of Piacenza and active since 2006. They release
seven albums over time and today they return with "And Once The Storm Is
Over...."
After several lineup changes in the path of their
existence, Nagual today is a sextet composed of Luca Sabia (vocals and guitar),
Davide Belfiglio (guitar), Giulio Armanetti (bass), Claudio Bianchi (drums), G.
Fabrizio Defacqz (keyboards and vocals), and Sara Battisteri (vocals).
Nagual is a spirit guide, according to Aztec mythology
it is a totemic spirit, the name also fits perfectly with the Rock cause, the
band in fact leads us like a Cicerone to a journey in Hard Rock music, the
fundamental one that bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and
many others have handed down to us. However, their sound is also contaminated
by the Grunge genre.
So water under the bridge has passed since the birth
of the project, this suggests considerable preparation and experience behind
it, dictated mainly by the numerous live dates and the primordial passion to
perform covers of historical bands, all of which forges the band and compacts
it in all departments making it a unique war machine. "And Once The Storm
Is Over..." features eight tracks starting with the very short title track
that serves as the intro.
"Going Nowhere" presents their present-day
understanding of this style, also soiled with a brushstroke of Punk. The
guitars launch into short, lightning-fast solos, but basically it is the catchy
tune that dominates the listening. Sabia's vocal performance is excellent.
"Fading Away" is the gentler side of the sound, a vigorous as well as
classy ballad enhanced by Battisteri's choruses. "Too Far Gone!" is
pandering to the point, like a cat rubbing up against your legs that can buy
you in a heartbeat. The rhythm is clean, the Armanetti/Bianchi pairing working
in unison while the AOR-style keyboards, fill out the sound making it more catchy.
One can go wild in "Life Kills You", a song perfect for live
performances with an irresistible riff. Among the tracks I enjoyed the most, I
nominate "Where Memories Are Blind", either for that vintage hint,
but also for more care in intriguing passages and then... The guitar...
Full of energy with "Wildfire", here it is
the 80s that become apparent, while the concluding "Waterwall" with
its abundant six minutes shows the instrumental talents of the components
between tempo changes and delicate vocal interventions.
This music bears the witness of an indelible past that
we should never forget, but Nagual do it with personality through a look at the
modern sound, this brings freshness to the whole that flows with extreme pleasure.
A record to listen to in all places, especially in the car on a good trip. MS
