Dopo il successo di “ROCK PROGRESSIVO ITALIANO 1980 – 2013” (2018 - Arcana) e “METAL PROGRESSIVE ITALIANO” (2019 - Arcana) con i quali vince i premi “Macchina Da Scrivere” alla voce Migliore enciclopedia dell’anno, lo scrittore fabrianese torna a sondare un altro argomento mai trattato in editoria: il Neo Prog.

Rivolgendosi sempre ad un pubblico di nicchia, attento e conoscitore di musica, racconta la storia del genere dagli albori ad oggi, esaminando le discografie dei gruppi più significativi anche attraverso i loro testi. La parte enciclopedica è suddivisa per nazioni con i gruppi fondamentali e infine la parte di approfondimento con due realtà odierne importanti come gli americani Spock’s Beard e gli inglesi Arena.

Il viaggio esplicativo vede protagonista come rappresentato nella copertina il jester, simbolo della band che ha dato origine alla ripresa del Progressive Rock nei primi anni ’80: i Marillion. Con loro in cattedra anche Pendragon, IQ, Pallas e Twelfth Night.

Il Jester è un personaggio che accomuna molte delle band Neo Prog, così il face paint adoperato in sede live dai cantanti di molti di questi gruppi. Tanto viene estrapolato dal lavoro dei Genesis, che assieme a Peter Gabriel negli anni ’70 apportano successo al Progressive Rock. Esso subisce un doloroso stop alla fine degli anni ’70 con l’avvento del Punk, della Discomusic e della New Wave. Il Neo Prog è dunque la rinascita del genere che attinge molto da queste sonorità “Genesiane” ma anche al sound dei Pink Floyd e dei Camel in primis. L’autore nel raccontare la storia volge lo sguardo anche agli avvenimenti che accadono nel periodo, fattore importante in quanto la musica è sempre rappresentanza della società del momento.

Non manca neppure un analisi conclusiva. Il critico consiglia di tenere l’opera accanto al pc dove poter consultare e approfondire in rete la musica di queste band non molto conosciute, ma che sicuramente elargiscono emozioni a profusione in quanto musica fatta da ottimi professionisti e di tante belle melodie. Un occasione unica per conoscere il lato evolutivo del Rock scritto da un noto amante efferato del genere: Massimo “Max” Salari.

After the success of "ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK 1980 - 2013" (2018 - Arcana) and "ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE METAL" (2019 - Arcana) with which he won the "Macchina Da Scrivere" awards under the heading Best Encyclopedia of the Year, the Fabrianese writer returns to probe another topic never before covered in publishing: Neo Prog. Always addressing a niche audience, attentive and knowledgeable about music, he tells the story of the genre from its beginnings to the present day, examining the discographies of the most significant groups also through their lyrics. The encyclopedic part is divided by countries with the fundamental groups and finally the in-depth part with two important today's realities such as the Americans Spock's Beard and the British Arena.The explanatory journey features as depicted on the cover the jester, symbol of the band that gave rise to the revival of Progressive Rock in the early 1980s: the Marillion. With them on the cover are also Pendragon, IQ, Pallas and Twelfth Night.
The Jester is a character shared by many of the Neo Prog bands, so the face paint employed in live performance by the singers of many of these groups. So much is extrapolated from the work of Genesis, which together with Peter Gabriel in the 1970s brought success to Progressive Rock. It suffered a painful halt in the late 1970s with the advent of Punk, Discomusic and New Wave. Neo Prog is thus the rebirth of the genre that draws heavily from these "Genesian" sounds but also to the sound of Pink Floyd and Camel first and foremost.
The author in telling the story also turns his gaze to the events happening in the period, an important factor since music is always representative of the society of the time.
A concluding analysis is also not lacking. The reviewer recommends keeping the work next to your pc where you can consult and delve into the music of these bands that are not very well known, but certainly bestow emotions in profusion as music made by excellent professionals and many beautiful melodies. A unique opportunity to learn about the evolving side of Rock written by a well-known effete lover of the genre: Massimo "Max" Salari.
