Il 1977 è un anno, musicalmente parlando, di transizione. Le mode stanno cambiando, anche se la protesta in Italia è ancora in vigore (i cosiddetti anni di piombo), possiamo dire che la colonna sonora sta mutando, lasciando il campo al Punk, alla Disco e alla New Wave prossima all’arrivo. Il Progressive Rock sta sparando le ultime momentanee cartucce, e l’interesse attorno a questa musica va gradatamente scemando.
Gli artisti che ancora si sentono liberi di manifestare i propri credo, non contigui alla moda di massa, tuttavia non si arrendono e proseguono per la propria strada, sia essa politicizzata che no.
Un forte esempio lo abbiamo avuto con gli artisti della Cramps di Gianni Sassi, in campo sino all’ultima nota fra utopie e convinzioni, una band su tutte gli Area di Demetrio Stratos che ha avuto sempre la forza di contestare sia con la musica che con le parole.
Chi si è immesso in questo sentiero alla fine degli anni ’70 di certo non ha trovato terreno fertile, per questo è capitato d’imbattersi in lavori singoli, privi di un proseguimento temporale. I classici album da un colpo e via, quelli poi che i collezionisti di vinili cercano e vendono a cifre improponibili.
Un esempio lo abbiamo con Franco Leprino, autore di un solo album completamente strumentale intitolato “Integrati… Disitegrati”.
Franco Leprino, nato a Ficarra, in provincia di Messina, è un chitarrista polistrumentista prossimo allo stile ricercato ed elettronico del primo Franco Battiato. Ispirato da artisti come Stockhausen, Cage e Berio, Leprino intraprende il percorso sonoro minimalista fra chitarre classiche, atmosfere rilassanti e il VCS3, strumento elettronico vendutogli proprio dal mai troppo compianto Battiato.
L’autore entra nel mondo della musica come chitarrista per diverse band Rock, ma l’ambiente gli va stretto e a ventidue anni sente la necessità di una differente forma di espressione, basata su ideali antifascisti e di sinistra.
“Integrati… Disintegrati” viene concepito durante il periodo passato all’Università di Messina ma registrato a Milano. Il titolo lascia intendere la differenziazione di un substrato sociale composto prevalentemente da due tipologie di persone, coloro che si sono adeguati al sistema (Integrati) e quelli che invece non si sono mai adattati ai tempi (Disintegrati), questo di base è il concept dell’album suddiviso in due lunghe tracce, “Parte 1” di oltre diciannove minuti di durata e “Parte 2” di ventidue minuti e mezzo. Qui i suoni circondano la mente dell’ascoltatore fra effetti elettronici, pianti di bambino, voci di folla inferocita, atmosfere oniriche, sinfonismi, il tutto esaltate da buoni effetti stereo. Una perla rara in cui lasciare andare la mente e il corpo per un momento di relax, magari proprio dopo una giornata dura in cui si sente la necessità di resettarsi. Tanti i momenti dolci che accompagnano l’ascolto, un altalenarsi di emozioni che in un solo disco rendono il tutto molto scorrevole e fruibile. Oltre al minimalismo non manca neppure la dodecafonia.
Il disco nel tempo ha ricevuto buone critiche, e alcune ristampe, malgrado ciò Leprino conclude qui la sua comparsa in questo mondo musicale, a lui successivamente non più congruente, ed è un vero peccato perché l’autore è ricco d’idee e soluzioni che di certo esulano da quella che potremmo definire la banalità dei tempi a seguire. Viene ristampato dalla Giallo Records nel 2009 con materiale aggiunto che doveva uscire per la Cramps Records, ma a causa della morte di Sassi, non andò a buon fine. Oggi Leprino scrive in riviste di settore ed è docente all’Università degli Studi di Genova oltre che dedito alla passione di Filmacker.
 “Integrati…. Disintegrati”, quando la musica in Italia aveva ancora una valenza politica. Da riscoprire. MS

1977 is a year, musically speaking, of transition. Fashions are changing, even if the protest in Italy is still in force (the so-called years of lead), we can say that the soundtrack is changing, leaving the field to Punk, Disco and the soon-to-arrive New Wave. Progressive Rock is firing its last momentary shells, and interest around this music is gradually waning.
The artists who still feel free to manifest their beliefs, not contiguous with mass fashion, nevertheless do not give up and continue on their way, whether politicized or not.
We had a strong example of this with the artists of Gianni Sassi's Cramps, in the field until the last note between utopias and convictions, one band above all Demetrio Stratos's Area, which always had the strength to contest with both music and words.
Those who entered this path at the end of the 1970s certainly did not find fertile ground, which is why it happened to come across single works with no temporal continuation. The classic one-shot albums, the ones then sought out by vinyl collectors and sold for ungodly sums.
We have an example with Franco Leprino, author of a fully instrumental solo album entitled “Integrati... Disitegrati.”
Franco Leprino, born in Ficarra, in the province of Messina, is a multi-instrumentalist guitarist close to the refined and electronic style of early Franco Battiato. Inspired by artists such as Stockhausen, Cage and Berio, Leprino embarks on the minimalist sound path between classical guitars, relaxing atmospheres and the VCS3, an electronic instrument sold to him by the never-too-much lamented Battiato.
The author enters the world of music as a guitarist for several Rock bands, but the environment is tight for him and at the age of twenty-two he feels the need for a different form of expression, based on anti-fascist and leftist ideals.
“Integrati... Disintegrati” was conceived during his time at the University of Messina but recorded in Milan. The title hints at the differentiation of a social substratum composed mainly of two types of people, those who have adapted to the system (Integrati) and those who, on the other hand, have never adapted to the times (Disintegrati), this basic is the concept of the album divided into two long tracks, “Part 1” of over nineteen minutes in length and “Part 2” of twenty-two and a half minutes. Here sounds surround the listener's mind between electronic effects, baby cries, angry crowd voices, dreamlike atmospheres, symphonisms, all enhanced by good stereo effects.
A rare gem in which to let your mind and body go for a moment of relaxation, perhaps just after a hard day when you feel the need to reset. So many sweet moments accompany the listening, a seesaw of emotions that in one disc make it all very smooth and enjoyable. In addition to minimalism, there is also no lack of dodecaphony.
The record over time has received good reviews, and a few reissues, despite this Leprino concludes here his appearance in this musical world, to him subsequently no longer congruent, and it is a pity because the author is rich in ideas and solutions that certainly go beyond what we might call the banality of the times to follow. It was reissued by Giallo Records in 2009 with added material that was supposed to be released by Cramps Records, but due to Sassi's death, did not go through. Today Leprino writes in trade journals and is a lecturer at the University of Genoa as well as dedicated to his passion of Filmacker.
