Esistono artisti che dimostrano un amore immenso per la musica, una volontà ferrea che va oltre la normalità del voler esprimere sé stessi attraverso questa musa dalle mille sfaccettature. Un amore che trascende i risultati; in parole povere, è vita.
Alberto Molesini, in arte Baro, ha alle spalle un percorso artistico davvero invidiabile, che inizia dai lontani anni '70 con la band La Sintesi, per poi svilupparsi in lavori solisti, collaborazioni varie (Hydra, Elam, Marygold) e numerose date live. L'ambito in cui Baro si adopera è quello del Progressive Rock, caro a band come King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, ELP e Frank Zappa.
La discografia di Baro è formata da tre album: "Lucillo & Giada" (2019), "Topic Würlenio" (2019) e "Utopie" (2021), a testimonianza di una vena compositiva recente del polistrumentista Molesini davvero molto ispirata. Con gli anni, l'artista acquisisce esperienza e consapevolezza, alzando il tiro album dopo album, fino a giungere oggi a questo "Prog-jet IV: Aionverse", dalle tematiche importanti, così descritte nel booklet di venti pagine splendidamente illustrato da Paolo Bottaro:
"Vorrei parlarvi della mia reinterpretazione di ciò che ogni uomo desidera: l'Eternità della Vita. L'origine è sempre una creazione. Non c'è solo una creazione; l'intera storia del cosmo è una grande creazione continua. E la storia dell'umanità è il suo frutto più meraviglioso. In un luogo senza spazio, chiamato Aionverse, vivono schiere di anime. Lì, il tempo è un denso dialogo d'amore tra queste anime e l'Essere Supremo, Creatore. Alcuni hanno avuto l'esperienza di avere un corpo e sono tornati, altri non hanno ancora avuto la loro occasione."
Per un concept album così articolato e ricco di personaggi (otto), Baro si avvale della collaborazione di numerosi artisti che rispondono ai nomi di Iacopo Meille alla voce (Tygers Of Pan Tang), Heather Findlay alla voce (Mostly Autumn, Ayreon), Andrea Vilardo alla voce (Moto Armonico, Blind Golem), Meghi Moschino alla voce (Quanah Parker), Andrea Damato (voce), Titta Donato (voce), Paolo Zanella (piano), Nicola Rotta (basso), Massimo Basaglia (chitarra elettrica), Jack Molesini (jambè), Gabriel Bellorti (violino), oltre che alla band stessa, formata da Gigi Murari (batteria e percussioni) ed Elena Cipriani (cori). Baro si occupa della voce, basso, chitarra e tastiere. Il disco è accompagnato dallo splendido artwork "Surreal Landscape" di Xandaclaus@DeniantArt.
Tanti sono gli stili musicali adoperati all'interno, spaziando dal Prog Rock al Jazz, sino alla World Music, per un risultato davvero coinvolgente. Otto sono i capitoli che formano l'album, a iniziare da "Creator's Farewell", dove si narra della discesa sulla terra delle anime gemelle Sonny e Larry. Le atmosfere articolate possono richiamare gli Yes (soprattutto per la vocalità), i Gentle Giant, ma anche la freschezza più recente dei primi Spock's Beard. La musica proposta non risulta comunque troppo pesante; l'attenzione per le melodie orecchiabili è alta e rende tutto molto scorrevole. La mini-suite di tredici minuti intitolata "Flow Of Life" è suddivisa in quattro parti.
La storia a seguire racconta dei gemelli che crescono dimostrando due differenti caratteri: Sonny è attivo, ottimista e visionario, mentre Larry è introverso. Molti sono gli interrogativi che Sonny si pone nei confronti della vita e della propria famiglia. Heather Findlay interpreta la madre, mentre la musica si articola in maniera perfettamente consona agli scenari, con giochi vocali davvero interessanti, come capita spesso di ascoltare nel progetto Ayreon di Lucassen. Strade diverse per i protagonisti, salvo ritrovarsi dopo la morte dei genitori. Peripezie contro mostri e l'incontro con il Creatore sono due degli scenari descritti durante le esecuzioni, dove il finale strumentale farà sicuramente la gioia immensa di tutti gli amanti del Progressive Rock.
L'arpeggio di una chitarra inizia "Biz-R World", per poi far salire in cattedra Iacopo Meille, impegnato fra cambi di tempo accompagnati egregiamente dalle linee di basso e delle tastiere. Dopo la breve introduttiva "Crossing Pathways Pt A", è la volta di "Mom And D(e)ad", e ancora una volta le coralità gradevoli hanno la priorità. "Crossing Pathways Pt B, C" resta sulla linea guida di quanto descritto, ma è con la suite "Crossing Pathways Pt D, E, F, G" che Baro dà il meglio di sé. Ritorna nel finale la melodia iniziale con la chitarra e voce di "Crossing Pathways", qui accompagnata dal violino.
Molesini si dimostra un fiume in piena, attento agli scenari Rock del passato con un occhio di riguardo anche al presente. Come detto, tanto Yes style, piccoli sguardi nel mondo di Neal Morse, insomma, un disco da ascoltare più volte per poterne assaporare al meglio tutte le sfumature. Una bellissima occasione per scoprire un artista che mette tutto se stesso in un contesto musicale attuale sempre meno sincero e preparato. Solo complimenti. MS

There are artists who demonstrate an immense love for music, an iron will that goes beyond the norm of wanting to express themselves through this multifaceted muse. A love that transcends results; in simple terms, it's life.
Alberto Molesini, known as Baro, has an enviable artistic background that began in the distant '70s with the band La Sintesi, later developing into solo works, various collaborations (Hydra, Elam, Marygold), and numerous live performances. Baro operates within the realm of Progressive Rock, dear to bands like King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, ELP, and Frank Zappa.
Baro's discography consists of three albums: "Lucillo & Giada" (2019), "Topic Würlenio" (2019), and "Utopie" (2021), testifying to Molesini's recent compositional vein as a multi-instrumentalist, which is truly inspiring. Over the years, the artist has gained experience and awareness, raising the bar album after album, until reaching "Prog-jet IV: Aionverse", with important themes described in the twenty-page booklet beautifully illustrated by Paolo Bottaro:
"I'd like to tell you about my reinterpretation of what every man desires: the Eternity of Life. The origin is always a creation. There isn't just one creation; the whole history of the cosmos is one continuous great creation. And the history of mankind is its most wondrous fruit. In a place without space, named Aionverse, there live hosts of souls. There, time is a dense dialogue of love between these souls and the Supreme Being, Creator. Some have had the experience of having a body and have returned, others haven't yet had their chance."
For such an intricate and character-rich concept album (eight), Baro collaborates with numerous artists, including Iacopo Meille on vocals (Tygers Of Pan Tang), Heather Findlay on vocals (Mostly Autumn, Ayreon), Andrea Vilardo on vocals (Moto Armonico, Blind Golem), Meghi Moschino on vocals (Quanah Parker), Andrea Damato (vocals), Titta Donato (vocals), Paolo Zanella (piano), Nicola Rotta (bass), Massimo Basaglia (electric guitar), Jack Molesini (jambè), Gabriel Bellorti (violin), as well as the band itself, formed by Gigi Murari (drums and percussion) and Elena Cipriani (backing vocals). Baro handles vocals, bass, guitar, and keyboards. The album is accompanied by the beautiful artwork "Surreal Landscape" by Xandaclaus@DeniantArt.
Various musical styles are employed within, ranging from Prog Rock to Jazz, to World Music, resulting in a truly engaging outcome. The album consists of eight chapters, starting with "Creator's Farewell", which tells the story of twin souls Sonny and Larry descending to Earth. The articulated atmospheres may evoke Yes (especially for the vocals), Gentle Giant, and the freshness of early Spock's Beard. The proposed music isn't too heavy; the attention to catchy melodies is high, making everything very smooth. The thirteen-minute mini-suite titled "Flow Of Life" is divided into four parts.
The story that follows tells of the twins growing up, demonstrating two different characters: Sonny is active, optimistic, and visionary, while Larry is introverted. Many questions arise as Sonny ponders life and his family. Heather Findlay plays the mother, while the music perfectly matches the scenarios, with interesting vocal interplay, similar to what is often heard in Lucassen's Ayreon project. The protagonists take different paths, only to reunite after their parents' death. Perils against monsters and meeting the Creator are two scenarios described during the performances, where the instrumental finale will surely delight all Progressive Rock fans.
A guitar arpeggio begins "Biz-R World", followed by Iacopo Meille's impressive vocals, accompanied by excellent bass and keyboard lines. After the brief introductory "Crossing Pathways Pt A", it's the turn of "Mom And D(e)ad", where pleasant harmonies take priority. "Crossing Pathways Pt B, C" stays on the described path, but it's with the suite "Crossing Pathways Pt D, E, F, G" that Baro gives his best. The initial melody returns in the finale with guitar and vocals from "Crossing Pathways", accompanied here by the violin.
Molesini proves to be a wealth of creativity, attentive to past Rock scenarios with an eye on the present. As mentioned, a strong Yes influence, small glances at Neal Morse's world; in short, an album to be listened to multiple times to fully appreciate all its nuances. A beautiful opportunity to discover an artist who puts his heart and soul into a musical context that is increasingly less sincere and prepared. Nothing but compliments. MS
