Direte voi: "Un altro libro sui Pink Floyd!" Ebbene sì, ma questa volta (come per i The Lunatics con "Storie e Segreti"), è una gioia per i fan collezionisti più accaniti della band di Cambridge. Gioia perché gli autori vanno a spulciare minuziosamente la storia della band, brano per brano, con la competenza e la passione che solo i più grandi fan planetari della band hanno.
Chi sono i The Lunatics? Chi meglio di loro può descriverli? Quindi, estrapoliamo dal loro sito la biografia: "The Lunatics" è un club virtuale che raggruppa alcuni tra i più famosi collezionisti italiani dei Pink Floyd. Il club, ideato nel 2001 da Mr. Pinky, alias Stefano Tarquini, per un continuo scambio di informazioni dettagliate e approfondite sulla discografia (che poi confluiscono nel suo sito), è stato potenziato nel 2007 con l'ingresso di amici collezionisti, i "Lunatics" (Riccardo Verani, Stefano Girolami, Enrico Nardin), con l'altro scopo di far conoscere meglio il mondo del vinile a tutti i fan della band. In seguito, il club è stato aperto ad altri tipi di collezionismo - aspetti importanti della cultura "floydiana" - come i poster, i tour program e la memorabilia (con il contributo di Danilo Steffanina) e ogni tipo di pubblicazione, libri e giornali (con il contributo di Nino Gatti), coinvolgendo i più importanti collezionisti italiani e stranieri.
Ho avuto la possibilità di conoscerli a Milano in un Pink Floyd Day e, come dissi loro, in me nasce una profonda invidia per quello che possedete e soprattutto per quello che sapete. Anch'io sono un amante della band Pink Floyd e proprio per questo mi avvicino ai loro libri con una fiducia totale, quella fiducia che non solo è ricambiata dal prodotto in analisi, ma addirittura resto sempre stupito ogni volta che lo leggo. Ne ho letti molti altri sulla band e anch'io (nella mia modestia) pensavo di sapere non dico tutto, ma molto... eppure noto leggendo le righe di "Il Fiume Infinito" che non conosco quasi niente!
Il titolo è emblematico e il libro esce in concomitanza con lo storico comeback di "The Endless River" del duo Mason/Gilmour, ovviamente dedicato allo scomparso amico e tastierista Richard Wright, con le sue tastiere immortali presenti nel disco. In parole povere, il disco degli ultimi decenni. Periodo fantastico dunque per i fan dei Pink Floyd, almeno qui in Italia, dove i The Lunatics hanno colto nel segno, perché dettagliatamente, anno per anno, ci conducono nel percorso della vita della band.
Non solo aneddoti o storia all'interno, ma anche ritagli di interviste ai protagonisti, testimonianze e rivelazioni. 320 pagine e fotografie sono ciò che compongono questo "fiume infinito" di informazioni, compreso l'ultimo lavoro. Resterete colpiti dalle nozioni e dai dettagli, come ad esempio il descrivere brano per brano chi lo suona, con quali strumenti, la durata, la registrazione e il produttore! Tengo tuttavia a sottolineare che "Il Fiume Infinito" è anche un libro per tutti, non certo solo per fan, perché è scritto davvero bene, scorrevole, e la passione che ci mettono è contagiosa; sicuramente è un'occasione per entrare nel loro mondo.
Una cartina stradale particolareggiata, non vi perderete sicuramente! Un vademecum per il fan che vuole i particolari... insomma, un libro che non può mancare se amate la musica! Grazie, The Lunatics, grazie di esistere! (MS)

You'll say: "Another book about Pink Floyd!!" Well, yes, but this time (like with "Storie e Segreti" for The Lunatics), it's a joy for the most avid collector fans of the Cambridge band. Joy because the authors meticulously dig into the band's history, song by song, with the competence and passion that only the biggest planetary fans of the band have.
Who are The Lunatics? Who better than them can describe themselves? So, let's take a look at their website bio: "The Lunatics" is a virtual club that groups some of the most famous Italian Pink Floyd collectors. The club, founded in 2001 by Mr. Pinky, alias Stefano Tarquini, for a continuous exchange of detailed and in-depth information on discography (which then flows into his website), was enhanced in 2007 with the entry of collector friends, the "Lunatics" (Riccardo Verani, Stefano Girolami, Enrico Nardin), with the other goal of making the vinyl world better known to all fans of the band. Later, the club was opened to other types of collecting - important aspects of "Floydian" culture - such as posters, tour programs, and memorabilia (with the contribution of Danilo Steffanina) and every type of publication, books, and magazines (with the contribution of Nino Gatti), involving the most important Italian and foreign collectors.
I had the chance to meet them in Milan at a Pink Floyd Day, and, as I told them, I felt a deep envy for what they own and especially for what they know. I'm also a Pink Floyd fan and that's why I approach their books with total trust, a trust that is not only repaid by the product under analysis, but I'm always amazed every time I read it. I've read many others about the band, and I thought (in my modesty) I knew a lot... yet, reading the lines of "The Infinite River", I realize I know almost nothing!
The title is emblematic, and the book is released in conjunction with the historic comeback of "The Endless River" by the duo Mason/Gilmour, dedicated to the late friend and keyboardist Richard Wright, with his immortal keyboards present in the album. In simple terms, the album of the last decades. A fantastic period for Pink Floyd fans, at least here in Italy, where The Lunatics have hit the mark, because they take us through the band's life journey, year by year, in detail.
Not just anecdotes or history inside, but also interviews with the protagonists, testimonies, and revelations. 320 pages and photos make up this "infinite river" of information, including the latest work. You'll be struck by the knowledge and details, such as the description of each song, who plays it, with which instruments, duration, recording, and producer! I want to emphasize that "The Infinite River" is also a book for everyone, not just fans, because it's well-written, smooth, and the passion they put into it is contagious; it's definitely an opportunity to enter their world.
