La musica Metal Progressive si presta bene a tematiche fantasy, le tastiere soprattutto riescono a donare epicità all’insieme, e in questo noi italiani siamo molto bravi. Se torno indietro con la memoria, ricordo i Black Jester nei primi anni ’90, a seguire altri capisaldi come Labyrinth, Eldritch e la lista è davvero estesa, tanto che personalmente ne ho scritto un libro al riguardo, Metal Progressive Italiano (Arcana).
Ma come la musica ci ha insegnato, l’evoluzione è sempre dietro l’angolo, difficilmente si stagna troppo a lungo su certe soluzioni, quindi anche un genere forte come il Metal Progressive si evolve, seppur lentamente. Non soltanto Dream Theater, a questi maestri si aggiungono nel tempo altri sperimentatori, come Pain Of Salvation, Shadow Gallery, Neal Morse Band che a loro volta apportano freschezza e nuove soluzioni. Tutto questo fa anche parte del bagaglio culturale della band Moto Armonico.
Si formano nel 2010 per volere del chitarrista Uccio Ghezzer per poi debuttare due anni dopo con l’album omonimo. Subiscono nel tempo diversi avvicendamenti al microfono, mentre il secondo album “Down To Timavo” vede luce nel 2014. Partecipano a diversi contest, vincendo sempre nel 2014 la quinta edizione del “Tregnago Rock Contest”. Passano un lungo periodo d’incertezze per poi giungere finalmente ai giorni nostri con la formazione attuale composta da Uccio Ghezzer,
Chistian Pasin (tastiere), Giampi Tomezzoli (basso), Marco Beso (Forever Deep, Real Illusion) alla batteria e dal cantante Andrea Vilardo (Blind Golem).
“Wondering Land” è il nuovo album con nove tracce e una bonus track, in cui si alternano ospiti come Flavio Caricasole (voce), Fabio Varalta (chitarra) e il batterista della band Stargate Isacco Dalle Pezze.
Il disco si presenta curato anche nell’artwork, grazie ai disegni di Elisa Granzarolo, sposando in pieno la causa del concept basato su una storia fantasy scritta da Annamaria Ferrari.
L’immancabile “Intro” prepara l’ascolto a penetrare nel contesto fra tastiere, ritmiche imponenti e tanta enfasi, fino a spaziare in un mid tempo supportato dalla chitarra elettrica impegnata in un assolo Neo Prog sostenuto. E’ la staffetta per “Wondering Land”, vetrina per la buona prova vocale di Vilardo, che senza strafare interpreta al meglio le armonie sopra una base prossima al mondo più pacato dei Dream Theater. I giochi si fanno seri negli undici minuti di “Unexpected Windy Week (Waves)”, il pezzo potrebbe benissimo risiedere in quel monumentale lavoro sempre del teatro dei sogni intitolato “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory”, qui il cantato tenta alte vette. Strumentalmente la band viaggia all’unisono, fra ritmi spezzati, tempi dispari e cambi umorali, il tutto come ingranaggi perfettamente oliati. Grazie alle tastiere di tanto in tanto fanno capolino anche gli anni ’70. Un intro stile Queensryche primo periodo, apre “Mrs Herridan” mettendo in luce la capacità di scrittura della band grazie a melodie gradevoli miste a una giusta tecnica strumentale. Il pianoforte di Pasin porge una tregua in “Resembling King Arthur”, così la chitarra elettrica che si propone in un assolo delicato e ricco di patos. Ma in un attimo si ha subito la sensazione di vedere volare sopra le nostre teste un drago, il merito spetta ai quasi dieci minuti di “The Dragons From The East”. “Skin As Snow” è energica grazie alla batteria di Dalle Pezze, una canzone in questo caso più Metal che Prog, anche per il coro che la supporta. Ancor più sostenuta “The Weapons Against The Giants” cantata da Caricasole, e qui la tecnica strumentale è decisamente elevata. Il concept si conclude con la mini suite di quindici minuti intitolata “Just Three Words”, i Moto Armonico gridano al mondo la qualità del nostrano Metal Prog, senza compromessi. La bonus track è la pianistica “Evax’s Letters To Tiberius (Epistola Quae Evax Arabie MistTiberio Imperatori)”, aria con voce narrante di Paola Compostella in lingua latina.
Nulla da aggiungere, solo da costatare che “Wondering Land” è davvero un moto armonico. MS

Progressive Metal music lends itself well to fantasy themes, the keyboards especially manage to give epicness to the whole, and in this we Italians are very good. If I go back with my memory, I remember Black Jester in the early 90s, followed by other cornerstones like Labyrinth, Eldritch and the list is really extensive, so much so that I personally wrote a book about it, Metal Progressive Italiano (Arcana).
But as music has taught us, evolution is always around the corner, hardly stagnating too long on certain solutions, so even a genre as strong as Progressive Metal evolves, albeit slowly. Not only Dream Theater, these masters are joined over time by other experimentalists, such as Pain Of Salvation, Shadow Gallery, Neal Morse Band, who in turn bring freshness and new solutions. All this is also part of the Moto Armonico band's cultural background.
They formed in 2010 at the behest of guitarist Uccio Ghezzer and then debuted two years later with their self-titled album. They undergo several changes on the microphone over time, while the second album "Down To Timavo" sees the light of day in 2014. They participate in several contests, always winning the fifth edition of the "Tregnago Rock Contest" in 2014. They pass a long period of uncertainty before finally reaching the present day with the current lineup consisting of Uccio Ghezzer,

"Wondering Land" is the new album with nine tracks and a bonus track, featuring guests such as Flavio Caricasole (vocals), Fabio Varalta (guitar) and Stargate band drummer Isacco Dalle Pezze.
The album is also neat in its artwork, thanks to Elisa Granzarolo's drawings, fully espousing the cause of the concept based on a fantasy story written by Annamaria Ferrari.
The unfailing "Intro" prepares the listener to penetrate into the context between keyboards, imposing rhythms and a lot of emphasis, until ranging into a mid tempo supported by the electric guitar engaged in a sustained Neo Prog solo. That's the relay for "Wondering Land", a showcase for Vilardo's good vocal performance, who without overdoing it interprets harmonies to the best of her ability over a base close to the quieter world of Dream Theater.
The games get serious in the eleven minutes of "Unexpected Windy Week (Waves)", the piece might as well reside in that monumental work always from the theater of dreams entitled "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory", here the singing attempts high heights. Instrumentally, the band travels in unison, between broken rhythms, odd tempos and mood changes, all like perfectly oiled gears. Thanks to the keyboards the 70s also peep in from time to time. An early Queensryche-style intro opens "Mrs Herridan" highlighting the band's writing ability through pleasing melodies mixed with proper instrumental technique. Pasin's piano provides a respite in "Resembling King Arthur", so does the electric guitar, which comes through in a delicate solo full of pathos. But in an instant one has the feeling of seeing a dragon flying over our heads, credit to the nearly ten minutes of "The Dragons From The East". "Skin As Snow" is energetic thanks to Dalle Pezze's drums, a song in this case more Metal than Prog, not least because of the supporting chorus. Even more sustained is "The Weapons Against The Giants" sung by Caricasole, and here the instrumental technique is definitely high.
The concept concludes with the fifteen-minute mini-suite titled "Just Three Words", Moto Armonico shouts to the world the quality of our own uncompromising metal prog. The bonus track is the pianistic "Evax's Letters To Tiberius (Epistola Quae Evax Arabie MistTiberio Imperatori)", an aria with narrated voice by Paola Compostella in Latin.
Nothing to add, only to note that "Wondering Land" is indeed a harmonic motion. MS
