La band toscana di Cecina Mr Bison ritorna all’attenzione del pubblico dopo quattro anni da “Seaward”, inanellando il quinto album da studio. La mutazione sonora cui si stanno prestando oggi è ancor più marcata rispetto il passato, lasciando maggiore spazio a interventi di stampo Progressivo pur rimanendo legati all’appendice Stoner Rock. I suoni sono quindi tendenzialmente robusti, ma le coralità e gli effetti sostenuti fanno di questo sound una caratteristica davvero personale nell’ambito.
Immaginate per alcuni momenti, con molta fantasia, di vedere impegnati gli Yes nel campo Stoner, non tanto per la tecnica strumentale che non richiede grandi elucubrazioni, tanto per le soluzioni vocali. Con “Echoes From The Universe” i punti sonori sono piuttosto prossimi a band come King Crimson, Pink Floyd, e Motorpsycho, mentre le tematiche si fondono in un concept riguardante la forte volontà dell’individuo nel voler andare incontro al proprio destino forzando gli eventi con il proprio libero arbitrio. La maturazione cui mi riferisco riguarda soprattutto la capacità odierna di fondere il passato con il presente, il tutto attraverso uno sguardo verso il futuro. Il quartetto è composto da Matteo Barsacchi (chitarra, basso, synth), Matteo Sciocchetto (chitarra, basso, voce), Lorenzo Salvadori (batteria), e Davide Salvadori (chitarra acustica, synth, Hammond, Mellotron, basso).
Sette i brani che formano il concept per un totale di quaranta minuti di musica.
I cinque minuti di “The Child Of The Night Sky” sono rappresentativi per la qualità sia sonora sia stilistica della band che sa manifestarsi coesa e perfettamente oliata in tutti i propri reparti, tramite cambi di tempo e numerosi effetti eco. La robustezza del suono è avvicendata da una scelta melodica della composizione efficace tanto da rimanere facilmente impressa nella memoria.
 “Collision” mostra a sorpresa un lato quasi Folk dell’andamento sonoro, un riff massiccio presta il fianco alle buone capacità vocali dei componenti, ma i giochi diventano seri nei sette minuti di “Dead In The Eye”, sorniona con un incedere Pinkfloydiano prossimo a “Obscured By Clouds” (Pink Floyd). Il crescendo sonoro funziona, facendo del pezzo un alto gradino della scala “Echoes From The Universe”.
L’inizio di “Fragments” sposa la causa King Crimson grazie ad un arpeggio ripetuto di chitarra elettrica, il pezzo è profondo, quello che posso definire strumentalmente più impegnato rispetto quanto ascoltato sino ad ora, qui il lato Prog è evidente. Suono di campana e sornioni movimenti introspettivi rende “The Promise” un altro bel mix fra passato e presente per poi lanciarsi in un pachidermico ritmo supportato da un muro sonoro elettrico che a metà del brano muta in un sostenuto incedere psichedelico. Facile restare irretiti da “The Veil”, ancora una volta la scelta dei motivi basilari orecchiabili porta a casa il successo dell’intento. Il disco si conclude con “Staring At The Sun” qui sono i Porcupine Tree a comparire durante l’inizio, ma l’andazzo muta sostanzialmente intrecciando ritmiche e riff in una sorta di finale pirotecnico, proprio come accade nei fuochi d’artificio.
“Echoes From The Universe” dei Mr Bison è un disco decisamente scorrevole, e nel suo campo oserei dire anche elegante, a testimonianza che anche noi in Italia possiamo dire onorevolmente la nostra su quest’argomento. Solo i miei complimenti. MS

Cecina's Tuscan band Mr Bison returns to the public's attention after four years since "Seaward", ringing out their fifth studio album. The sonic mutation to which they are lending themselves today is even more pronounced than in the past, leaving more room for Progressive-sounding interventions while remaining tied to the Stoner Rock appendage. The sounds thus tend to be robust, but the chorality and sustained effects make this sound a truly personal feature in the field.
Imagine for a few moments, very imaginatively, seeing Yes engaged in the Stoner field, not so much for the instrumental technique, which does not require great lucubration, as for the vocal solutions. With "Echoes From The Universe", the sonic points are rather close to bands such as King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Motorpsycho, while the themes coalesce into a concept concerning the strong will of the individual in wanting to go to his own destiny by forcing events with his own free will. The maturation I am referring to is mainly about today's ability to merge the past with the present, all through a look toward the future. The quartet consists of Matteo Barsacchi (guitar, bass, synth), Matteo Sciocchetto (guitar, bass, vocals), Lorenzo Salvadori (drums), and Davide Salvadori (acoustic guitar, synth, Hammond, Mellotron, bass).
Seven tracks make up the concept for a total of forty minutes of music.
The five minutes of "The Child Of The Night Sky" are representative for both sonic and stylistic quality of the band that knows how to manifest itself cohesive and perfectly oiled in all its departments through tempo changes and numerous echo effects. The robustness of the sound is approached by a melodic choice of composition effective enough to easily stick in the memory.
 "Collision" surprisingly shows an almost Folk side of the sonic progression, a massive riff lending its side to the good vocal abilities of the components, but the games get serious in the seven minutes of "Dead In The Eye", sly with a Pinkfloydian procession close to "Obscured By Clouds" (Pink Floyd). The sonic crescendo works, making the piece a high rung on the "Echoes From The Universe" ladder.
The beginning of "Fragments" espouses the King Crimson cause thanks to a repeated electric guitar arpeggio, the piece is deep, what I can call instrumentally more committed than what I have heard so far, here the Prog side is evident. Bell sounds and sly introspective movements makes "The Promise" another fine mix of past and present and then launches into a pachydermic rhythm supported by an electric wall of sound that changes into a sustained psychedelic procession halfway through the song.
Easy to be ensnared by "The Veil", once again the choice of basic catchy motifs drives home the success of the intent. The record concludes with "Staring At The Sun" here it is Porcupine Tree that appears during the beginning, but the pacing changes substantially intertwining rhythms and riffs in a kind of pyrotechnic finale, just as happens in fireworks.
"Echoes From The Universe" by Mr. Bison is a decidedly smooth record, and in its field I dare say even elegant, proving that even we in Italy can honorably say our piece on this subject. Only my compliments. MS
