Ci sono visioni e visioni sul significato dell’esistenza. Ognuno di noi ha un’idea su come potrebbe evolvere il destino dell’uomo sulla terra, in maniera più o meno pessimistica. La fiducia sull’essere umano è minata da episodi che molto spesso ci hanno fatto riflettere. Non sempre la risposta raggiunta è oggettiva, così nel campo dell’arte si è comunemente trattato l’argomento per esorcizzare certi stereotipi.
La musica si presta bene a narrare taluni pensieri evidenziandoli con dei suoni che possono variare per contesto da duri a oscuri, secondo la risposta che si vuole fornire. Il genere musicale Dark Trip Hop è uno di quelli che s’integra al meglio nell’avvalorare il concetto, come quello proposto dal duo milanese Pinhdar, formato dalla cantante Cecilia Miradoli e dal chitarrista e produttore Max Tarenzi. L’esordio discografico risale al 2019 con l’EP dal titolo omonimo, il quale attira l’attenzione della critica britannica che accoglie il progetto in maniera positiva. Partono tour e passaggi radiofonici, sino giungere ai nostri giorni con “A Sparkle On The Dark Water”. Il sound muta leggermente rispetto al passato, inserendo maggiori interventi elettronici abbandonando il sentiero del minimalismo, tanto da raggiungere suoni cari a band come Radiohead, Cure, Soulstice e altre sul genere.
I dieci brani contenuti nell’album sono episodi raccontati in un arco singolo che varia dai quattro ai sei minuti.
La voce sussurrata di Miradoli immerge l’ascolto in un sound spaziale e onirico sin da “In The Woods”, narrazione lieve supportata da suoni elettronici in un percorso mentale dal forte impatto emotivo. Il contesto ben si sposa con la grafica dell’artwork, capace di spiegare in forme e colori il movimento sonoro.
Le trame Dark fuoriescono maggiormente sopra la ritmica compulsiva di “Cold River”, il suono elettrico aggiunge inquietudine, solo apparentemente quietata dalla rassicurante voce ancora una volta autrice maestra del contesto. Ci si avvicina al mondo ponderato di Steven Wilson in “Home” anche per l’uso a effetto dei microfoni, un brano mentalmente riflessivo.
L’elettronica batte in “Little Light” come un cuore pulsante, la ricerca strutturale fuoriesce dalla banalità creando un suono ammaliante che grazie all’effetto stereo sembra girovagare intorno alla nostra testa. Il pezzo più lungo dell’album di sei minuti abbondanti, s’intitola “Murderers Of A Dying God” ed è aperto da un arpeggio di chitarra che si getta nuovamente in meandri eterei. Spazio, vuoto…Effetti eco, sensazioni calmierate solamente dalla voce, perfetta guida per lo stato d’animo.
“Humans” mette in guardia da ciò che siamo, qui fanno in parte capolino anche gli anni ’80 della New Wave. Questa è musica da ascoltare al buio, in cuffia o ad alto volume per ottenere un maggiore coinvolgimento emotivo. Non da meno “Solanin”, greve nell’incedere, per alcuni versi anche inquietante. Sale il ritmo con “Frozen Roses” pur rimanendo sinuosa e psichedelica, come una rosa nera.
“Abysses” suggerisce già nel titolo cosa si può ascoltare, un’immersione nell’oscurità. A concludere “At The Gates Of Dawn”, qui la chitarra emana un lieve spiraglio di luce, così il cantato fa scorgere una sorta di bagliore in fondo al tunnel.
“A Sparkle On The Dark Water“ apre orizzonti mentali sconfinati per un volo pindarico, e scusate il richiamo al logo della band. MS

There are views and visions about the meaning of existence. Each of us has an idea about how man's fate on earth might evolve, more or less pessimistically. Confidence about human beings is undermined by episodes that very often have given us pause for thought. The answer reached is not always objective, so in the field of art the topic has commonly been treated to exorcise certain stereotypes.
Music lends itself well to narrating certain thoughts by highlighting them with sounds that can vary in context from harsh to dark, depending on the response one wants to provide. The Dark Trip Hop music genre is one of those that best complements the concept, such as that proposed by the Milanese duo Pinhdar, formed by singer Cecilia Miradoli and guitarist and producer Max Tarenzi. Their recording debut dates back to 2019 with the EP of the same title, which attracts the attention of British critics who welcome the project positively. Tours and radio airplay begin, until reaching the present day with "A Sparkle On The Dark Water". The sound changes slightly from the past, inserting more electronic interventions leaving the path of minimalism, so much so that it reaches sounds dear to bands such as Radiohead, Cure, Soulstice and others on the genre.
The ten tracks contained in the album are episodes told in a single arc ranging from four to six minutes.
Miradoli's whispered voice immerses the listener in a spatial and dreamlike sound since "In The Woods",  a light narrative supported by electronic sounds in a mental journey with a strong emotional impact. The context fits well with the graphic artwork, capable of explaining in shapes and colors the sonic movement.
Dark textures leak out more over the compulsive rhythm of "Cold River", the electric sound adding restlessness, only seemingly quieted by the reassuring voice once again master author of the context. One approaches the thoughtful world of Steven Wilson in "Home" in part because of the effect use of microphones, a mentally reflective track.
The electronica beats in "Little Light" like a beating heart, the structural research escapes banality by creating a bewitching sound that thanks to the stereo effect seems to wander around our heads. The album's longest piece of a good six minutes, it is titled "Murderers Of A Dying God" and is opened by a guitar arpeggio that again throws itself into ethereal meanderings. Space, emptiness...Echo effects, sensations calmed only by the voice, a perfect guide for the mood.
"Humans" warns of what we are, 80s New Wave peeps in part here. This is music to be listened to in the dark, on headphones or loudly to get more emotional involvement. Not to be outdone is "Solanin", heavy in its pacing, in some ways even eerie. It picks up the pace with "Frozen Roses" while remaining meandering and psychedelic, like a black rose.
"Abysses" already suggests in its title what can be heard, an immersion in darkness. Concluding "At The Gates Of Dawn", here the guitar gives off a faint glimmer of light, so the singing gives a glimpse of some sort of glow at the end of the tunnel.
"A Sparkle On The Dark Water" opens boundless mental horizons for a Pindaric flight, and pardon the reference to the band's logo. MS
