BISON - Echoes From The Universe Heavy
Psych Sounds Genere:
Progressive Stoner Supporto: cd 2024
legati all’appendice Stoner Rock.
davvero personale nell’ambito. Immaginate
Con “Echoes From The Universe” i
Barsacchi (chitarra, basso, synth), Matteo Sciocchetto (chitarra, basso, voce),
Lorenzo Salvadori (batteria), e Davide Salvadori (chitarra acustica, synth,
Hammond, Mellotron, basso). Sette
numerosi effetti eco.
By Clouds” (Pink Floyd).
alto gradino della scala “Echoes From The Universe”. L’inizio
Facile restare irretiti da “The
“Echoes
Solo i miei complimenti. MS

cd 2024
Cecina's
Tuscan band Mr Bison returns to the public's attention after four years since
"Seaward", ringing out their fifth studio album. The sonic mutation
to which they are lending themselves today is even more pronounced than in the
past, leaving more room for Progressive-sounding interventions while remaining
tied to the Stoner Rock appendage. The sounds thus tend to be robust, but the
chorality and sustained effects make this sound a truly personal feature in the
field. Imagine
for a few moments, very imaginatively, seeing Yes engaged in the Stoner field,
not so much for the instrumental technique, which does not require great
lucubration, as for the vocal solutions. With "Echoes From The Universe",
the sonic points are rather close to bands such as King Crimson, Pink Floyd,
and Motorpsycho, while the themes coalesce into a concept concerning the strong
will of the individual in wanting to go to his own destiny by forcing events
with his own free will. The maturation I am referring to is mainly about
today's ability to merge the past with the present, all through a look toward
the future. The quartet consists of Matteo Barsacchi (guitar, bass, synth),
Matteo Sciocchetto (guitar, bass, vocals), Lorenzo Salvadori (drums), and
Davide Salvadori (acoustic guitar, synth, Hammond, Mellotron, bass). Seven
tracks make up the concept for a total of forty minutes of music. The
five minutes of "The Child Of The Night Sky" are representative for
both sonic and stylistic quality of the band that knows how to manifest itself
cohesive and perfectly oiled in all its departments through tempo changes and
numerous echo effects. The robustness of the sound is approached by a melodic
choice of composition effective enough to easily stick in the memory. "Collision" surprisingly shows an
almost Folk side of the sonic progression, a massive riff lending its side to
the good vocal abilities of the components, but the games get serious in the seven
minutes of "Dead In The Eye", sly with a Pinkfloydian procession
close to "Obscured By Clouds" (Pink Floyd). The sonic crescendo
works, making the piece a high rung on the "Echoes From The Universe"
ladder. The
beginning of "Fragments" espouses the King Crimson cause thanks to a
repeated electric guitar arpeggio, the piece is deep, what I can call
instrumentally more committed than what I have heard so far, here the Prog side
is evident. Bell sounds and sly introspective movements makes "The
Promise" another fine mix of past and present and then launches into a
pachydermic rhythm supported by an electric wall of sound that changes into a
sustained psychedelic procession halfway through the song. Easy
to be ensnared by "The Veil", once again the choice of basic catchy
motifs drives home the success of the intent. The record concludes with
"Staring At The Sun" here it is Porcupine Tree that appears during
the beginning, but the pacing changes substantially intertwining rhythms and
riffs in a kind of pyrotechnic finale, just as happens in fireworks. "Echoes
From The Universe" by Mr. Bison is a decidedly smooth record, and in its
field I dare say even elegant, proving that even we in Italy can honorably say
our piece on this subject. Only my compliments. MS
SEMIRAMIS - La Fine Non Esiste VM / BFT Genere: Rock Progressivo Italiano Supporto: cd / Digital – 2024
E’
proveniente dai maestri inglesi. Quest’album è croce e delizia per i
reperire ristampe a prezzi decisamente abbordabili.
(chitarre elettriche), Marco Palma (chitarre acustiche), Giovanni Barco (voce),
e Daniele Sorrenti (tastiere, organi, synth, flauto). “Dedicato
Tanti anni ’70 e sentieri adiacenti
MS

SEMIRAMIS – La Fine Non Esiste VM / BFT Genre: Italian Progressive Rock Support: cd / Digital - 2024
It's really true, the end does not exist, the
consideration is proven by the historic Roman band Semiramis, which after fifty
years since the release of their only album "Dedicato A Frazz"
(Trident - 1973), continues the sonic journey from where they left off. A single record but set in the roll of the great
classics of Italian Progressive Rock. In spite of their then young age, the
band led by Paolo Faenza (drums, vibraphone) and the Zarrillo brothers, Michele
and Maurizio, composes Rock poised between experimental, Mediterranean sound
and classic Prog coming from the English masters. This album is a cross and
delight for collectors, as the first pressing reached really prohibitive costs,
luckily today with the Internet you have the possibility to listen to
everything or find reissues at definitely affordable prices. In 2013, surprisingly, Semiramis found themselves
again, and in 2017 they recorded "Frazz Live", a bolt from the blue
that hinted at a newfound artistic vein that could result in a desire to compose
new material. The certainty is not there, so much so that a good six years pass
after the momentary illusion, but fortunately for us, the reunion turns out to
be galeactic. However, the lineup changes, still with Faenza in the
chair supported by excellent artists from the Roman Progressive circuit such as
Ivo Mileto (bass), Emanuele Barco (electric guitars), Marco Palma (acoustic
guitars), Giovanni Barco (vocals), and Daniele Sorrenti (keyboards, organs,
synth, flute). "Dedicato A Frazz" is a concept album,
"La Fine Non Esiste" comes close, because the topic is unique
concerning the possibility of daring, of going beyond normality, but in the six
tracks that make up the album the characters and stories are different from
each other. A positive message that urges us to always give our best and
beyond. The work in question is sung in Italian and opens with
"In Quel Secondo Regno" with a Hard Prog procession only in appearance,
because in short succession hints of Gentle Giant and Orme are denoted. Good is
Barco's vocal test, likewise one cannot remain indifferent before the electric
guitar solo. A piece that alone tells a decade of sonic style, and does so with
modern vision, in a perfect balance between past and present. "Cacciatore Di Ansie" through the sound of
the piano, opens to wide-ranging tunes, the technique of the components is
showcased through mood changes, however careful not to get lost in unnecessary
lucubration. Narration and singing parts embellish the melodies. The finale
blurs into IQ-style Neo Prog. A sweet air of keyboards begins "Donna Dalle Ali
D'Acciaio" and then moves forward into the simple and immediate song
formula. Lots of 70s and Pooh-adjacent paths in the listener's memory. This is
followed by "Non Chiedere A Un Dio”, a sonic mix thick with magic, with
soaring electric guitar solo and the ever-present tempo change. With "Tenda Rossa”, odd times follow one another
as per the Prog script, a stylistic journey with a distinct personality to be
enjoyed compulsorily at high volume. The most articulate piece comes in the finale, "Sua
Maestà Il Cuore" is simply a firework. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the immortal Italian
Progressive Rock, the end does not exist and never will as long as artists like
Semiramis exist. To the enterprising young people of today, I advise them to
take up this baton: fall in love with loving each other. MS
JAMES NETTERWALD – Decade Decoded Autoproduzione Genere: Indie Rock – Folk Supporto: cd / Tunecore.com - 2023
Don't Even Wanna Know” è il singolo che apre il disco, molto orecchiabile per
melodie.
risulta minimale, senza molti fronzoli.
Netterwald
bagaglio storico messo in pratica nelle composizioni. Semplice e diretta “It
Started Off With This Car”, peccato solo per il cantato non sempre all’altezza,
calpestati dai Fab Four. Giocosa “Dear Therapist”, arricchita da coralità
aggiunte oltre che dall’effetto voice decoded. Di
altra materia è composta “Seeds Of Self Doubt”, canzone decisamente matura e
In
chiusura un’armonica fa respirare atmosfere fra Folk e Southern Rock in “Voluntary
Hostage”. James
come radiodowntown.ca. MS

JAMES NETTERWALD - Decade Decoded Self-publishing Genre: Indie Rock - Folk Support: cd / Tunecore.com - 2023
This time Nonsolo Progrock deals with a particular
review, where music (whatever it is) becomes an outlet for body and soul.
Clearly this is a common factor for all artists, but there are cases where
passion becomes a real life purpose. The case of James Netterwald is emblematic. The
self-taught artist is from Hazlet, NJ in the United States. For more than 30
years he has been writing songs in a truly personal way and recording them at
home, all self-financed. The Rock covered ranges from the 60s to the 90s, even
touching on Grunge. James in the lyrics deals with the issues he has had
to face in life, especially the bipolarism that affected him, as well as
mentioning hobbies and various interests. Here is music as a form of therapy, a willingness to
put oneself out there for ideas, a desire to be alive, understood and
appreciated. "Decade Decoded" is the official CD debut
and consists of eight songs. "I Don't Even Wanna Know" is the single that
opens the record, very catchy in melodies. Being self-taught, James makes use
of the pc and so the rhythmic arrangement comes across as minimal, without many
frills. The electric guitar is robust and drains energy to the track. The sound
is not polished because of the limitations mentioned above, but what matters is
the substance, the desire to come out with a concept of one's own. Of ideas there are, as in the sunny "1999
(defenseless)", where the vocals are filtered by a vocoder. Basically one
can hear the Beatles as a reference, but also the more modern sound of artists
such as Blackfield, "Another Gloomy Bayonne Day" is proof. Netterwald puts himself into the songs and also shows
a good culture about listening, a historical background put into practice in
the compositions. Simple and straightforward "It Started Off With This Car",
a pity only for the singing that is not always up to par, but overall
enjoyable. A veil of nostalgia hovers in the sweet "Invisible To
You", one of the most successful songs on the disc with keyboard sounds
simulating the horns of a trumpet, here the Folk is more present. "Confusion" opens with a more committed
piano sound and rhythm, this time it is the 1990s that peeps out, when Oasis
took paths trodden by the Fab Four. Playful "Dear Therapist",
enhanced by added chorality as well as the decoded voice effect. Of a different matter is "Seeds Of Self Doubt",
a decidedly mature and introspective song, even in the singing, this time well
effected. In closing a harmonica makes atmospheres between Folk
and Southern Rock breathe in "Voluntary Hostage". James Netterwald has put himself out there, no ifs or
buts, a passion that I hope will bring him prosperity and satisfaction. The artist promotes his music independently by
submitting his songs to college radio stations around the world and independent
stations such as radiodowntown.ca. MS
CALIGULA’S
HORSE - Charcoal Grace Inside
Out Genere: Metal Progressive Supporto: CD / Vinile – 2024
L’Australia
Townsend, Pain Of Salvation, Opeth, Meshuggah, Porcupine Tree, Steve Vai,
Frost, Periphery, Karnivool, Muse, Steely Dan, The Beatles, e Frank Zappa.
Vallen (chitarra, voce), Dale Prinsse (basso, voce), e Josh Griffin (batteria),
dieci minuti di “The World Breathes With Me” sono esplicativi su quanto detto,
A chi
Sofisticata “The Stormchaser”, mentre la conclusiva
“Mute” mette in chiaro chi comanda oggi il Progressive Metal in Australia. “Charcoal
riversato in note. Da avere. MS

Australia is a very peculiar country as far as nature
is concerned, the detachment from the primordial Pangaea has led it to be rich
in animal variety with completely unique vegetations. Well knows who takes the
plane to reach the continent what happens at the airport in baggage control,
nothing must contaminate this land, the ecosystem is safeguarded to the
maximum. The population as a result has a well-defined personality, however
strangely in music and precisely Rock music, Australia is generally a mix of
influences that comes from all over the planet, and this is a fact that clashes
with their nature now described. The fact remains unknown to me, although there
are important realities such as AC/DC or Wolfmother to name just two, but if we
go to analyze they are devoted to both Anglo-Saxon and American sound
influences. If we go into an even more niche area, such as
Progressive Metal for example, the discourse is similar, an important name
being Caligula's Horse, although famous more at home than abroad. Again, the
music is excellent, but I return to say that it is a mixture of contaminations,
some of the sounds you can extrapolate from listening to it are derived from
bands such as Devin Townsend, Pain Of Salvation, Opeth, Meshuggah, Porcupine
Tree, Steve Vai, Frost, Periphery, Karnivool, Muse, Steely Dan, The Beatles,
and Frank Zappa. This incredible mix however it may be leads to a truly
personal result, not least because the four guys who make up the band, namely
Jim Grey (vocals), Sam Vallen (guitar, vocals), Dale Prinsse (bass, vocals),
and Josh Griffin (drums), possess good instrumental technique. The band formed in Brisbane in 2011, and
"Charcoal Grace" is their sixth studio work not including EPs. The
name they have given themselves, translated into Italian is Il Cavallo Di
Caligola, and we know well that the ancient Roman emperor made his own equine
senator. He certainly a madman, but the horse actually has nothing to do with
it, and this reflects a little of what they propose in the compositions, which
is a veil of madness but kept in check by the rationality of things. The ten minutes of "The World Breathes With Me" are
explanatory on what has been said, the song is really well structured, cared
for in the arrangements, sung properly and above all played to perfection. Fans
of the genre will surely appreciate it beyond measure, but even those who
listen to Porcupine Tree will find similarities with Wilson's band. The sound
recording is clean enough to distinguish the instrumentations perfectly and
also gives them different depths. To those who do not like excessive
distortion, here I can assure them to throw an ear to it, they are not too
invasive, conversely numerous are the tempo and mood changes, in simple words
more Prog than Metal. Soen style turns out "Golem", more direct
than its predecessors, but never predictable. This is followed by a four-part
suite, "Charcoal Grace," which should be given a listen by those who
are completely unfamiliar with the meaning of Progressive Metal. The Neal Morse
Band-esque beginning gives way to a set of sounds that are at times even
distant from each other, making for an ensemble that is never boring enough to
make twenty-plus minutes of music seem almost five. There is also no shortage of an easy-grip slow song
built on good vocal playing, this one titled "Sails". Sophisticated
"The Stormchaser", while the concluding "Mute" makes it
clear who is in charge of Progressive Metal in Australia today. "Charcoal Grace" is an excellent record, an
example of total culture in the music industry poured into notes. Must have. MS
VIIMA - Väistyy Mielen Yö Autoproduzione Genere: Prog Folk Supporto: cd – digital – 2024
Ho
estrapolato dalla famosa canzone "The Hare Who Los His Spectacles"
dall'album “A Passion Play”. Come moltissimi artisti, iniziano a provare negli
Laidalta” (Viima Records – 2006) e “Kahden Kuun Sirpit” (Viima Records – 2009),
oggi grazie a “Väistyy Mielen Yö”.
tastiere, voce), Mikko Uusi-Oukari (chitarre, Mellotron), Mikko Väärälä
(batteria, voce, tastiere, carillon), Aapo Honkanen (basso) e Risto Pahlama
fascino è dunque elevato all’ennesima potenza. Basta
“Perhonen” a sua volta richiama altrettante vicissitudini, i Viima
cavalcano sopra arie ben definite e collaudate.
pianoforte riesce a scaldare l’anima.
settore. MS

I have always held Progressive Rock from the Nordic
countries, even Finland, in high esteem, this is because the style is
well-defined, generally supported by numerous keyboards and lots of 70s, all
amalgamated by the unmistakable sound veiled in melancholy purely relegated to
their culture. Easy to fall in love with the numerous tempo and mood shifts
that seep out of each song, I have appreciated it in bands like Tasavallan
Presidentti, Kalevala, Pharaoh Overlord, Wigwam, Orne, Overhead, just to name a
few important names, and among them I put Viima. The band from Helsinki, which later moved to Turku in
1997, has Folk in its DNA, and they start playing songs from bands like
Pentangle, Curved Air, but especially Jethro Tull, so much so that they take
the initial name Lost Spectacles, extrapolated from the famous song "The
Hare Who Los His Spectacles" from the album "A Passion Play".
Like so many artists, they begin rehearsing in basements and likewise go
through numerous lineup changes. They release in time two critically acclaimed
albums, "Ajatuksia Maailman Laidalta" (Viima Records - 2006) and
"Kahden Kuun Sirpit" (Viima Records - 2009), followed by a large
number of live dates. Many, many years pass before we get to hear them again
in a studio work with new elements, finally this happens today thanks to
"Väistyy Mielen Yö". Now the band is made up of Hannu Hiltula (flute,
keyboards, vocals), Mikko Uusi-Oukari (guitars, Mellotron), Mikko Väärälä
(drums, vocals, keyboards, music box), Aapo Honkanen (bass) and Risto Pahlama
(vocals, Mellotron keyboards) and features former band guest Kimmo Lähteenmäki
(keyboards, woodwinds). Those who like Mellotron here have plenty to listen
to, but also Hammond and more. The beginning entrusted to "Tyttö
Trapetsilla", has much of the Landberk style, the difference however comes
from the flute. Folk is already present but also more Rock sounds alternating
with strangely upbeat phases as well as a vigorous electric guitar solo. With
almost five minutes of music this is the shortest track on the album, so next
comes the nineteen-minute mini-suite "Äiti Maan Lapset", a sumptuous
example of total Progressive Rock, where every ingredient touches on both the
history of the time that was and more modern ideas. A true sonic gem to be
enjoyed like a fine glass of aged wine. The Hammond roars, the energy released is engaging, so
bewitching are the quieter passages, especially those described with warm bass
lines. What I am going to emphasize is the singing in the native language, probably
not congenial to many of our listeners, yet it all fits together perfectly, for
me this is how it should be, the charm is thus elevated to the nth degree. It takes only a little to be won over by the sweet
tunes of "Pitkät Jäähyväiset", the 70s come through during the
listening for a feeling of total fulfillment, even during the intervention of
the electric guitar that tries to give more bite to the song thanks to a riff
bordering on Hard Prog, the keyboards complete the concept. "Perhonen"
in turn recalls as many vicissitudes, Viima riding over well-defined and proven
tunes. Closure falls to "Vuoren Rauha", seven full minutes of genre
history opened by a breeze that plunges the listener into icy environments
where only the sound of a piano can warm the soul. "Väistyy Mielen Yö" in my opinion is a
mature comeback that brings the band back to its rightful place, that of the
top Nordic bands in the sector. MS

PAGLIUCA – Immagin’Arie M.P.
& Records / G.T. Music Distribution Genere: Progressive Rock Supporto: cd / 1993 – 2023
Fabio Premoli (Premiata Forneria Marconi). Dopo
valutare attentamente l’opera corale.
è innata in lui.
all’autore.
malinconicamente straziante.
Concludendo,
Provateci. MS

TONY PAGLIUCA - Imagin'Arie M.P. & Records / G.T. Music Distribution Genre: Progressive Rock Support: cd / 1993 - 2023
When I see Tony Pagliuca's name printed on a record
cover, I always have a jolt to my heart. Growing up with Orme's music for me
was formative, he was able to smooth out undefined corners in my rough youthful
way of experiencing Rock, just like a file. The keyboards in his hands are also
a beacon that later illuminated the path of Italian Progressive Rock in the
1970s, along with those of Patrizio Fariselli (Area), Vittorio and Gianni
Nocenzi (Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso) and Fabio Premoli (Premiata Forneria
Marconi). After historic masterpieces conceived and performed
with his lagoon band, Pagliuca in the 1990s felt the need to pursue a solo
career, so subsequent to his abandonment, he recorded "Io Chiedo"
(Philips) in 1990. Three years later it was the turn of this "Immagin'Arie",
now remastered and embellished with three unreleased tracks by Micio Poldo
Records. Among them "Ritratto Di Un Mattino" taken from the
masterpiece "Felona E Sorona" revisited here just for the 50th
anniversary, but let's go in order without anticipating much. The love of music is also the love of image, the two
muses when blended together become a tsunami of emotions that crown the senses
of those who can carefully evaluate the choral work. Listening, not
distractedly hearing, is the key to entering the world of the artist who often
bares his or her soul to achieve certain results. Read this way it seems like
an obvious factor, actually it is not because making music has multiple
meanings, there are those who compose it to please others, and those who simply
for themselves. Vibrating with the artist by letting the sound transport you is
the purpose of listening, the pleasure... The estrangement even for a moment
from the world. "Immagin'Arie" is nomen omen, the album
cover is different from the one published in 1993, here it is illustrated with
a painting entitled "Blossom" by British artist Phil Greenwood.
Inside reside several photos that best know how to accompany Pagliuca's music,
the fog-shrouded countryside with two trees as the main subjects photographed
by Silvio Fioravanti, an archaic ceiling by Alessandro Malinverni, and the
basic blue in which a dandelion lets off its spores gracefully transformed into
notes, as well as that of the sky and sea by Carmine Capuano. There are seventeen tracks including bonus tracks, all
small frescos of about two minutes, because to express a concept it is enough
to be simple and direct, it almost seems that Pagliuca in the early 90s wants
to distance himself from logorrheic Prog music. The sweet dirge of "Zante" with electronic
arrangements, launches the listener into Pagliuca's colorful world, you may
wonder if there are still references to the mother band, this somehow is
inevitable, the care for pleasant melodies is innate in him. Slightly changing
the register is "Tim Pan," a warm composition with both ethnic and
psychedelic influences, thanks to the use of chorality and a relentless rhythm.
Reassuring gentleness among the notes of "Vis De Priimaveri", sung by
the suave voice of Mirela Zorzi, peeps from the 1980s here, and not only
because of the sounds. Pagliuca's music alternates between research and
folklore with the intent to stick in the memory, as in the case of "To Mr.
Kubrick". One of the most beautiful pieces on the entire album is titled
"Earth's Angels" and is also the longest thanks to its four-minute
running time. Here Ruggero Robin's acoustic guitar does the melodic
canvas with skill and technique. Sound drops best represent the title of the
playful track "Stagno", so much so that one almost feels splashed by
the water itself. One encounters many sonic cuddles among the many movements,
one being "Getsemani", and when I referred to laying bare the soul,
here we have a blatant example. With "Sentidentro" imagine an ancient
sonnet put in a modern key where the pauses are as important as the music. The
trump card of this album is precisely the care for certain arrangements albeit
relegated to a minimalist trend. More research flows from "Total
Recal" with instruments that insert themselves at every sonic turn over a
simple basic rhythm to culminate in a riot of sound. Impossible not to be charmed by the sunshine of
"Sweet", but Tony's world also ranges to other countries,
"Parfum De Rio" where he gracefully retraces certain sounds typical
of the cariocas, all always under the control of his strong personality capable
of making a piece perfectly relatable to the author. The keyboards become
solemn in "Gardzen", later it is the acoustic guitar that returns to
the chair with the very sweet "Double Moon", melancholically
heartbreaking. This track alone is worth the purchase of the album. The CD concludes with "Garden In The Groove"
and then leaves room for the three tasty bonus tracks, "Ritratto Di Un
Mattino" simply spine-tingling, "Ninna Nanna Germano" an
unreleased composition by the late friend and former Orme Germano Serafin, and
"Ciao Taty Come Stai", a love song dedicated to his wife Tatiana
where Tony finally tries his hand at vocals. In conclusion, "Immagin'Arie” is a friendly,
soothing, relaxing, airy, kind and caring record towards us, all this of course
for those who can understand it, because we do not all vibrate in the same way.
Give it a try. MS
MARTIAN
NOISE - Frequency Of Humanity Velut
Luna Genere: Crossover Prog Supporto: cd / Digital – 2024
Ora
tempi gloriosi, compongono musica solo strumentale, e registrano in analogico
Palmer, Yes, Genesis, Rick Wakeman, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project e altri
discografico intitolato “Frequency Of Humanity”, è l’intelligenza compositiva
dall’immancabile, seppur breve, “Prelude”.
catturano l’interesse dell’ascoltatore.
MS

MARTIAN NOISE - Frequency Of Humanity Velut Luna Genre: Crossover Prog Support: cd / Digital - 2024
Now I ask you a question right away: do you think that
in 2024 in Italy there are very young people who have talent, technique, who
love Progressive Rock of the glorious times, compose only instrumental music,
and record in analog without the contribution of computer interventions? If the
answer is yes, it is because you have had a chance to listen to Martian Noise.
They certainly are like white flies; I can say that coming across similar
projects has happened to me very rarely. Martian Noise are two brothers, nineteen-year-old
Gabriele (keyboards) and seventeen-year-old Niccolò Lucchin (drums). Also
making a presence with them on some tracks is Uncle Daniele Lucchin on guitar
and bass. When you have reference points concerning sacred
monsters such as Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, Genesis, Rick Wakeman, Pink
Floyd, Alan Parsons Project and others of the genre, you can only be in
possession of the aforementioned good instrumental technique, but the trump
card that we are going to discover in this debut record entitled
"Frequency Of Humanity", is the compositional intelligence in
properly balancing the past with the present, through a personality already
evident. All in spite of their young age. Both the title of the album and the cover artwork by
L'Image make it clear that they do not wish to associate their music with
modern deviltry; the frequency is only in the hands of humanity, and we begin
to understand this right from the unfailingly short "Prelude." It comes into play with "Infra", a piece
that wanders over a keyboard movement that is at times hypnotic as well as
varied. The album continues in emotional crescendo,
"Boring Aftermoon" has a more jazzy structure, thanks to a fusion
beginning and then opening up to delicate piano atmospheres. The search for melodies
suitable for relaxing listening is a winning weapon in my opinion, this also
happens in "Omniarch", also arranged with electronic interventions.
Martian Noise's music never sounds loud, even in the more rhythmic bangs, at
times it also leans on classical passages as in the case of "Hanging
Garden," here one can also savor the '60s/'70s well. The Progressive side
comes out in "Apnea," where turns of keyboards recall some past
EL&P cutaways. The Hammond gives the whole thing an
undeniable charm. A Gentle Giant-like beginning introduces "Weird
Flavour", an otherwise simple track where, once again, the right sounds
capture the listener's interest. Among my favorites I place the concluding
"Walk On" and "Broken Flower", the latter of which is also
the longest on the album at nearly seven minutes long. "Frequency Of Humanity" is an almost
tiptoeing debut, the music on offer never seems to want to assault the
listener, rather cuddling him or her with its pastel notes that draw delicate
pictures. I definitely mark the band in my notebook as a project to follow over
time, I am sure that developments will be interesting given also the age of the
members. Here we have listened to their basics, now we just have to wait for
the constructions on them. MS

Grateful Dead e molte altre ancora.
vendite dai suoi affezionati seguaci.
polistrumentista parmense Rebecca Magri, in arte Roxenne. “Pyroxene”
(The Cure), Jem Tayle (Shelleyan Orphan), Cristiano Godano (Marlene Kuntz),
Roberto Dellera (Afterhours, The Winstons), Tin Woodman ed esperienze in band
come AyahuascA, Kaptain Preemo, Hapnea e Upupayāma. Roxenne
“ Chimismo” introduce all’ascolto, la musica
Club, Black Angels e Tame Impala. Bella la voce, così l’interpretazione
sensuale. “Pyroxene”
che su You Tube.
“Supreme
Roxenne
dentro l’ascoltatore esplodendo frammenti fra cuore e testa. Non ci resta che
attendere la prova del full-length. MS

Music is a mental factor, although we know well that
the heart is of paramount importance. It can be both an outlet and a language
to be able to communicate feelings where words very often do not reach because
they are impossible in purpose. When the listener also feels equally what the
artist is communicating, then we are inside a higher form that we like to call
"art." Music for the mind is famously Psychedelia, (from the
Greek psyché, "soul" and dēlô, "I reveal"), born under the
stimulus of acid drugs such as LSD in the mid-1960s. Visionary, introspective,
multifaceted music, among the most important names to begin this journey are
the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Doors, Grateful Dead and many others. The genre
reaches the present day without ever having had a real decline in interest,
always stabilized in sales by its loyal followers. Italy, too, has shown
attention to it, and new up-and-comers are constantly being born, as in the
case of Parma-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Rebecca Magri, aka
Roxenne. "Pyroxene" is the debut EP, but the artist
is certainly not new in the musical field because over the years she has
already made important collaborations such as with Boris Williams (The Cure),
Jem Tayle (Shelleyan Orphan), Cristiano Godano (Marlene Kuntz), Roberto Dellera
(Afterhours, The Winstons), Tin Woodman and experiences in bands such as
AyahuascA, Kaptain Preemo, Hapnea and Upupayāma. Roxenne plays drums and keyboards, as well as being
the vocalist for the songs; with her are also Mattia Mazzeo on guitars and
Marco Mainardi on bass. The "Pyroxene" EP contains five tracks in
which to delve into a cosmic journey where the artist exorcises her own demons
through this music for the mind. " Chimismo" introduces to the
listening, the calm music has solid foundations in the Acid Rock of bands like
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Black Angels and Tame Impala. Beautiful vocals, so
is the sensual interpretation. "Pyroxene" is the title of the second track
also used as a single of which you can also appreciate the video by Andrea
Alberici and Thea Ambrosini both here in the blog and on You Tube. A spaceship colliding with meteorites leads Roxenne to
an emergency landing, where alone in hostile territory, she will be forced to
make a choice. This is also a metaphor for her own life. "Supreme Soft Porn Meditation For Young Space
Soldiers" ups the tempo and plays with dual vocals. Of note inside are the
good melodies that are easy to memorize. The track I personally enjoyed the most for my personal
taste is "Savoir-faire", pandering to the right degree, here Roxenne
rubs at the ear like a sly cat, and it's a good listen! Closing is up to "Selvatica", steeped in Litfiba-style
rock. Roxenne is on her debut, but she knows where to aim,
her music is engaging and penetrates inside the listener exploding fragments
between heart and head. We just have to wait for the full-length test. MS
