Diciamo la verità: tutti siamo sempre stati affascinati dal sogno di poter volare. L’uomo, dai tempi dei tempi, non solo lo ha desiderato, ma ci ha sempre provato; Icaro è per antonomasia il protagonista di questo sogno. Ne hanno parlato letterati, film, musica e tutto quello che è arte in senso generale, pittura compresa.
Alessio Trapella lo possiamo trovare in gruppi come Le Orme, gli UT New Trolls e la band di Aldo Tagliapietra, di certo è un artista completo con tanta materia da raccontare. È un polistrumentista oltre che cantante, approccia alla musica da giovane attraverso la tromba, oggi suona il basso, la chitarra, il contrabbasso, l’armonica e il flauto dolce; il suo approccio alla musica è quindi totale.
Esordisce come autore singolo nel 2022 con l’ottimo “La Ricerca Dell’Imperfezione”, che vi consiglio di andare ad ascoltare oltre che leggere in questa mia recensione.
“Icaro” quindi è il titolo del secondo album, ed è il protagonista di questo viaggio suddiviso in due atti: L’ascesa e la discesa. L’artwork cartonato è firmato dallo scultore Bruno Martinuzzi, che ha creato per “Icaro” un’opera originale, una interpretazione personale sospesa fra forma classica e tensione futurista. Nel disco, l’istante in cui l’uomo si avvicina troppo al sole. La copertina è fotografata da Marco Bovolenta.
Così descrivono le note biografiche dell’opera: “La prima storia – quella visibile, fantastica – è ambientata in un futuro sospeso, in cui un moderno Icaro sente la necessità irrefrenabile di viaggiare tra le stelle. Grazie all’aiuto di un misterioso "uomo delle stelle", parte per un viaggio cosmico che lo porterà sempre più lontano dalla Terra, dalla realtà, fino a un punto di non ritorno. Ma sotto questa superficie fantascientifica, si cela una seconda storia, più cruda e terrena: una parabola di dipendenza e autodistruzione. Il desiderio di evasione è il sintomo di un malessere più profondo. L’uomo delle stelle è lo spacciatore, l’astronave è una dose, e lo spazio profondo diventa la prigione dell’oblio”.
Sei le tracce che compongono l’opera, in cui vediamo partecipi strumentisti come Alessio Trapella, Luca Chiari alla chitarra, Filippo Dallamagnana alla batteria, e nel brano “Il Gesto” Nicola Cecchetto al sassofono.
“Icaro” è la title track che apre il volo, il bisogno di fuggire e di andare oltre i confini. Le tastiere in stile Orme fanno da preludio, oltre che preparare l’atmosfera consona. Il Prog cantautoriale è altamente orecchiabile, dove le melodie si danno staffetta fra cambi di ritmo e umorali. Si denota un rispetto per il passato sonoro rivisitato con esperienza e attualità.
L’incontro con il misterioso “Uomo Delle Stelle” promette evasione; la musica ha un ritmo sincopato al limite del Reggae, il ritornello è piacevole così come la parte strumentale.
Con “Il Gesto” il protagonista compie il salto fisico o simbolico, qui il basso è protagonista assieme ai fiati in un movimento prossimo al Jazz raffinato. L’ascolto scorre fluidamente sino a giungere alla strumentale “Anapneo”, un respiro sospeso, fluttuante tra coscienza e incoscienza. Per descrivere le ambientazioni, Trapella si accosta alla Psichedelia e al Rock più marcato dalle sfumature oscure. A metà del brano si manifestano ampie schiarite.
Il distacco dalla realtà e dagli affetti viene narrato in “Giù Il Sipario”, altro brano Prog cantautoriale scorrevole e ben arrangiato, dove il punto di forza risiede nel ritornello.
“Oltre Il Manifesto Blu” è la gemma conclusiva del disco, il punto di rottura, il viaggio senza ritorno. La musica si fa pacata e riflessiva; voce e tastiere aprono il brano e sembra di essere immersi negli anni ’70. Buone le coralità a supporto delle armonie ampie e delicate. Un mix di Pink Floyd e New Trolls davvero gradevole e ben strutturato, specialmente nell’ottimo solo di chitarra, un pezzo davvero riuscito in tutti gli intenti. Da rimarcare anche la bella voce di Trapella.
“Icaro” è in definitiva un concept per lasciarsi trascinare via; in fondo, questo è ciò che deve fare la musica: emozionare, far sognare e evadere. Trapella ci riesce in pieno. Da avere. MS.

Let's face it: we've all always been fascinated by the dream of flying. Humans have not only desired it since time immemorial but have also tried to achieve it; Icarus is the embodiment of this dream. Writers, films, music, and all forms of art, including painting, have talked about it.
Trapella can be found in groups like Le Orme, UT New Trolls, and Aldo Tagliapietra's band; he is certainly a complete artist with a lot to say. He's a multi-instrumentalist and singer who started with music at a young age playing the trumpet; today he plays bass, guitar, double bass, harmonica, and recorder. His approach to music is therefore total.
He made his debut as a solo author in 2022 with the excellent “La Ricerca Dell’Imperfezione”, which I recommend listening to and reading about in my review.
“Icaro” is the title of his second album and is the protagonist of this journey divided into two acts: The Ascent and the Descent. The cardboard artwork is signed by sculptor Bruno Martinuzzi, who created an original piece for “Icaro”, a personal interpretation suspended between classic form and futuristic tension. In the record, the moment when man gets too close to the sun. The cover is photographed by Marco Bovolenta.
The biographical notes of the work describe it as follows: “The first story – the visible, fantastical one – is set in a suspended future where a modern Icarus feels an irrepressible need to travel through the stars. With the help of a mysterious "star man", he embarks on a cosmic journey that will take him further and further away from Earth, reality, until he reaches a point of no return. But beneath this science fiction surface, a second story lies hidden, rawer and more earthly: a parable of addiction and self-destruction. The desire for escape is a symptom of a deeper malaise. The star man is the dealer, the spaceship is a dose, and deep space becomes the prison of oblivion.”
The album features six tracks, with instrumentalists such as Alessio Trapella, Luca Chiari on guitar, Filippo Dallamagnana on drums, and Nicola Cecchetto on saxophone in the song “Il Gesto”.
“Icaro” is the title track that opens the flight, the need to escape and go beyond boundaries. The Orme-style keyboards serve as a prelude and set the atmosphere. The singer-songwriter Prog is highly catchy, with melodies alternating between rhythmic and emotional changes. One can sense a respect for the sonic past revisited with experience and actuality.
The meeting with the mysterious “Uomo Delle Stelle” promises escape; the music has a syncopated rhythm bordering on Reggae, with a pleasant chorus and instrumental section.
In “Il Gesto”, the protagonist makes a physical or symbolic leap; here, the bass takes center stage along with the winds in a movement close to refined Jazz. The listening experience flows smoothly until reaching the instrumental “Anapneo”, a suspended breath, floating between consciousness and unconsciousness. To describe the settings, Trapella approaches psychedelia and marked Rock with dark undertones. Midway through the track, wide clearings emerge.
The detachment from reality and loved ones is narrated in “Giù Il Sipario”, another smooth and well-arranged singer-songwriter Prog track, where the strong point lies in the chorus.
“Oltre Il Manifesto Blu” is the conclusive gem of the album, the breaking point, the one-way journey. The music becomes calm and reflective; voice and keyboards open the track, and it's like being immersed in the 1970s. Good choral harmonies support wide and delicate harmonies. A truly enjoyable and well-structured mix of Pink Floyd and New Trolls, especially in the excellent guitar solo; a piece that succeeds in all its intentions. Worth noting is Trapella's beautiful voice.
“Icaro” is ultimately a concept album to get swept away by; after all, that's what music should do: evoke emotions, make us dream, and escape. Trapella succeeds fully. Must-have. MS.
