Oggi siamo abituati a subire la musica.
No, non voglio fare un preambolo pessimistico o quantomeno nostalgico da vecchio boomer, ma è la cruda realtà delle cose. Le mode passano da sempre, gli artisti vengono imposti dai media e quant’altro conosciamo a menadito per un risultato impalpabile che non lascia segno del proprio passaggio negli anni. Se a questo si aggiunge che la musica oggi è liquida, allora siamo davvero consapevoli che la situazione sta sfuggendo di mano (per non parlare dell’IA). Per questo sono felice quando ancora mi imbatto in piccole etichette che, come salmoni contro corrente, si adoperano per far uscire musica sia in supporto ottico che vinilico.
In questo contesto, seppure soltanto in CD, si adopera anche il duo Blondiefox, formato da Mirko DeFox Galliazzo (voce) e Paul Blondie Gidoni (chitarra, basso, tastiere, cori), anche Axe Hero e successivamente X-Hero. Assieme a loro partecipano Roberto Benna e Aldo Menti alle chitarre.
Lo scenario è quello del Rock accattivante e a tratti ricercato, cantato in italiano e con testi interessanti. L’interno del disco cita: “Candele spente che io riaccenderò. Pietre nella memoria dei nomi inciderò. La terra stringo, sollevo avanti a te. Il ricordo, il rimorso, d’esser vivo, d’esser morto”.
Le undici canzoni sono state registrate a Valdagno nei White Studios nel 1997 e rimasterizzate da Pretty Master EQ in Alaska nel 2022.
“Save Your Life” inizia il percorso con caparbietà e intensità, a tratti adiacente al mondo dei Litfiba, dove la personalità vocale di Galliazzo, comunque distante da quella di Piero Pelù, gioca un ruolo di primo piano. La scena resta vigorosa con “Il Triste Canto Dell’Uomo Bianco”, dove le chitarre elettriche disegnano riff e assolo godibili. Momenti introspettivi giungono da “Unico Vero Peccato”, dai testi toccanti, dove la voce e le tastiere conducono verso un cantautorato elegante di facile fruizione. La title track è cadenzata nell’incedere, rispettosa della formula canzone supportata da interventi di cori. Il pezzo evidenzia la conoscenza del duo riguardo al mondo della musica italiana attraverso una classe decisamente spontanea.
Con “Close Your Eyes” s’intravedono momenti Prog a disposizione della melodia tipicamente mediterranea, un connubio interessante che fa del pezzo uno dei frangenti più interessanti dell’album. Sale il ritmo con “Domani O Forse Mai”, per poi tornare nel pacato con l’ottima “Mama”, altra composizione ricercata e ben interpretata dalla voce di Mirko DeFox Galliazzo.
“Che Te” ha schegge di anni ’70 e ’80, altra vetrina per voce e tastiere che sfociano in un crescendo dove la chitarra elettrica fa da splendido suggello. Una curiosa parentesi sonora strumentale giunge dall’elettronica e dal basso di “Burocratias”, che fa staffetta a “L’anima Gratuita Crudeltà”, pezzo Rock di facile memorizzazione.
Il disco si conclude con “Palenque”, altro strumentale in cui l’elettronica segna un passo costante.
Per diritto di cronaca, devo sottolineare che nel disco tutte le parti della batteria sono elettroniche.
“Senza Universo” è un lavoro variegato e scorrevole, fra passaggi tipici della nostra cultura italica e la voglia di sperimentare, di certo un approccio non del tutto scontato per quello che concerne il nostro intendere la formula canzone. Piacevole. MS

Today we're used to being subjected to music.
No, I don't want to make a pessimistic or nostalgic preamble like an old boomer, but it's the harsh reality. Trends come and go, artists are imposed by the media and all that, and we know it all too well, resulting in an intangible outcome that leaves no mark over the years. If we add to this that music today is liquid, then we're really aware that the situation is getting out of hand (not to mention AI). That's why I'm happy when I still come across small labels that, like salmon swimming upstream, work hard to release music in both optical and vinyl formats.
In this context, albeit only on CD, the duo Blondiefox is also working hard, consisting of Mirko DeFox Galliazzo (vocals) and Paul Blondie Gidoni (guitar, bass, keyboards, backing vocals), also known from Axe Hero and later X-Hero. Joining them are Roberto Benna and Aldo Menti on guitars.
The scenario is that of catchy and sometimes sophisticated Rock, sung in Italian with interesting lyrics. The inside of the disc quotes: “Extinguished candles that I will relight. Stones in the memory of names I will etch. The earth I grasp, I lift up before you. The memory, the remorse, of being alive, of being dead.”
The eleven songs were recorded in Valdagno at White Studios in 1997 and remastered by Pretty Master EQ in Alaska in 2022.
“Save Your Life” starts the journey with determination and intensity, at times adjacent to the world of Litfiba, where Galliazzo's vocal personality, quite different from Piero Pelù's, plays a leading role. The scene remains vigorous with “Il Triste Canto Dell’Uomo Bianco”, where electric guitars draw enjoyable riffs and solos. Introspective moments come from “Unico Vero Peccato”, with touching lyrics where vocals and keyboards lead to an elegant songwriting style that's easy to appreciate. The title track is cadenced in its pace, respectful of the song formula supported by choir interventions. The piece highlights the duo's knowledge of the Italian music world through a decidedly spontaneous class.
With “Close Your Eyes”, Prog moments are glimpsed in the service of typically Mediterranean melody, an interesting combination that makes the piece one of the most interesting moments of the album. The rhythm picks up with “Domani O Forse Mai”, only to return to a calm pace with the excellent “Mama”, another sophisticated composition well-interpreted by Mirko DeFox Galliazzo's voice.
“Che Te” has shards of the '70s and '80s, another showcase for vocals and keyboards that culminate in a crescendo where electric guitar makes a splendid seal. A curious sonic instrumental parenthesis comes from the electronics and bass of “Burocratias”, which hands over to “L’anima Gratuita Crudeltà”, a Rock piece with easy memorability.
The disc concludes with “Palenque”, another instrumental where electronics mark a steady pace.
For the sake of accuracy, I must point out that in the disc, all drum parts are electronic.
“Without Universe” is a varied and smooth work, between passages typical of our Italic culture and the desire to experiment, certainly a not entirely predictable approach to what concerns our understanding of the song formula. Enjoyable. MS
