L’Hard Prog in Italia non gode di moltissimi proseliti, tuttavia la scia di fans seppure non numerosissima, è assidua e attenta al fenomeno. Relegare la musica dei novaresi Tal Neunder al proprio esordio con “L’Albero Della Vita” all’Hard Prog potrebbe risultare restrittivo, anche perché le influenze dettate da soluzioni maggiormente moderne sono evidenti.
Quello che fa piacere costatare durante l’ascolto di queste otto canzoni è il rispetto per il passato, evidentemente amato e assimilato, e l’apertura mentale a quei suoni che in piccoli tratti sono stati in possesso dei Porcupine Tree periodo Heavy. La band formata da Christian “Peda” Castelletti (voce e chitarre), Aurora “Aurea” Pardi (batteria), Pier Randazzo (basso), e Stefano Vallino (tastiere) seppur giovane, si toglie una bella soddisfazione arrivando al primo posto della categoria “Rock” di Sanremo Rock, a testimonianza di una buona preparazione e amalgama.
“L’Albero Della Vita” affronta l’argomentazione della coscienza umana, il bene e il male, la luce e l’ombra, proprio come hanno saputo fare i lagunari Orme negli anni ’70 con “Felona E Sorona”, ma qui non si narra di pianeti che si bilanciano fra loro, però il legame fra le band sussiste in quanto la canzone “Sirima” è estratta dall’album “Le Orme & Friends - Collection Vol. 1” del 2023.
Il riff tagliente della title track di apertura pone immediatamente l’ascoltatore davanti ad un suono robusto grazie anche all’utilizzo delle tastiere. In evidenza soprattutto la voce squillante di Christian “Peda” Castelletti. Immaginate, se li conoscete, i Wolfmother suonare Prog.
Arpeggi di chitarra aprono “Herenev”, sonorità passate al confine del Neo Prog (IQ di “Nomzamo”) e dei già citati Porcospini sono il leitmotiv, anche se nell’incedere torna l’energia dell’Hard Prog su un assolo di chitarra al fulmicotone. 
In “Algoritmo” si sottolineano nuovamente le capacità della band di saper comporre giri armonici accattivanti, ma è la citata “Sirima” a colpire per freschezza, un tributo robusto e allo stesso tempo elegante.
Il singolo dell’album s’intitola “Il Cacciatore Di Balene” così descritto dalle note biografiche della band: “Il Cacciatore Di Balene” narra l’epopea di un uomo che sfida l’oceano e la solitudine per cercare l’oro liquido dei cetacei, abbandonando i propri affetti per mesi con la consapevolezza di poter non fare ritorno. Di fronte alla sua paura più grande, si immerge nei meandri più oscuri della sua mente, come negli abissi che lo circondano.“.
Il Rock prosegue in “Marla”, canzone cadenzata dal facile mordente, mentre la voce resta sempre in cattedra. Non esulano i cambi di tempo e umorali che il genere richiede.
“Dov’è Il Sole” è una dolce ballata dal sound americaneggiante in crescendo, fra i momenti più alti dell’album che si conclude con “Dolce Luna”, sunto del DNA della band.
I Tal Neunder sono una bella sorpresa, e stranamente rispetto a moltissime altre band all’esordio, dimostra già di avere una propria identità, un approccio che li identifica brano per brano, segno di una forte personalità che soltanto il tempo potrà confermare, per il momento mi sento di promuoverli in pieno. Hard Prog in Italy does not enjoy many proselytes, however the trail of fans although not very numerous, is assiduous and attentive to the phenomenon. Relegating the music of Novara-based Tal Neunder on their debut with “L'Albero Della Vita” to Hard Prog could be restrictive, also because the influences dictated by more modern solutions are evident.
What is pleasing to note while listening to these eight songs is the respect for the past, evidently loved and assimilated, and the open-mindedness to those sounds that in small stretches were in the possession of the Porcupine Tree Heavy period. The band formed by Christian “Peda” Castelletti (vocals and guitars), Aurora “Aurea” Pardi (drums), Pier Randazzo (bass), and Stefano Vallino (keyboards) though young, takes away a great satisfaction by coming in first place in the “Rock” category of Sanremo Rock, a testament to good preparation and amalgamation.
“L'Albero Della Vita” deals with the argument of human consciousness, good and evil, light and shadow, just as the lagoon Orme were able to do in the 1970s with ‘Felona E Sorona’, but here there is no story about planets balancing each other, however, the connection between the bands subsists as the song ‘Sirima’ is taken from the album ‘Le Orme & Friends - Collection Vol. 1’ from 2023.
The sharp riff of the opening title track immediately sets the listener in front of a robust sound thanks in part to the use of keyboards. Especially in evidence is the ringing vocals of Christian “Peda” Castelletti. Imagine, if you know them, Wolfmother playing Prog.
Guitar arpeggios open “Herenev”, sounds passed to the border of Neo Prog (IQ of “Nomzamo”) and the aforementioned Porcupines are the leitmotif, although in the procession the energy of Hard Prog returns on a blazing guitar solo. 
In “Algorithm” the band's ability to compose catchy harmonic turns is again emphasized, but it is the aforementioned “Sirima” that strikes for freshness, a robust yet elegant tribute.
The album's single is titled “Il Cacciatore Di Balene” described by the band's biographical notes as follows: “Il Cacciatore Di Balene” tells the epic story of a man who braves the ocean and loneliness to search for liquid cetacean gold, abandoning his affections for months with the knowledge that he may not return. Facing his greatest fear, he plunges into the darkest meanderings of his mind, as in the depths that surround him.”.
The Rock continues in “Marla”, a cadenced song with an easy bite, while the vocals always remain in the lead. The tempo and mood changes that the genre requires do not exude.
“Where's The Sun” is a sweet, crescendoing Americana-sounding ballad, among the album's high points, which ends with ‘Sweet Moon’, a summary of the band's DNA.
Tal Neunder are a nice surprise, and strangely enough compared to many other bands on their debut, they already show that they have their own identity, an approach that identifies them track by track, a sign of a strong personality that only time will confirm, for the moment I feel like promoting them fully.
