Il dolore, il tormento, la violenza, l’amore, tutti stati d’animo che graffiano la nostra esistenza, lasciandoci cicatrici profonde. Queste argomentazioni sono spesso trattate nel mondo musicale del Rock, soprattutto in quello ricercato, perché proprio nell’Art-Rock la musica e i testi vanno in simbiosi fra loro, generando sensazioni e immagini che riescono a modellare lo spirito.
Le argomentazioni, se approfondite, richiedono un discorso ampio, ed è per questo che il musicista lombardo Maurizio Vaiani (cantante degli Jenny’s Joke) in arte RosGos, si adopera in una trilogia iniziata con “Lost In The Desert” nel 2020 e proseguita con “Circles” (2022). Dopo tanta oscurità, il nuovo “No Place” rimanda a uno spiraglio di luce, la quale però ricade su un “non posto”, lasciando l’ascoltatore sospeso in una dissolvente realtà.
La musica, pur nella semplice proposizione, è palpabile, una solidificazione che genera il nostro cervello durante l’ascolto aiutato da note velate spazianti dalla New Wave al Prog.
Il disco è anticipato dal video “My Cure”, dove sotto l’occhio del mirino c’è il rapporto di coppia, analizzato nel lato più cruento del suo essere.
L’artista spiega così “No Place”: “I dolori che hanno generato ed accompagnato questo pellegrinaggio non sono dimenticati. Sono invece accettati, assimilati ed incisi nella carne. Forse siamo Approdati, come suggerisce il titolo, in un non-luogo in cui trovare la pace”.
Il concept è suddiviso in dieci brani ed il succitato singolo ha l’onere di aprire il percorso. Si denota immediatamente una buona qualità della registrazione, effettuata ai Bbunker Studio sotto la produzione di Toria. Il pezzo spazia nella New Wave raffinata, la martellante nenia che fa da leitmotiv, si circonda di psichedelia donando al tutto quella sensazione di leggerezza.
Le atmosfere sono genericamente malinconiche, come anche nel caso di “Doll”, canzone arrangiata con cura dove le chitarre elettriche sono le uniche a grattare l’ascolto.
In suoni eterei vicini al mondo No Man si palesano in “Bleeding Souls”, mentre il cantato è riflessivo e pacato. La forza di questa musica si basa su melodie semplici ed immediate. Note fragili come una bolla di cristallo.
Il lato maggiormente Rock di RosGos fuoriesce con “Unexpressed Love”, un tuffo negli anni ’80. Un arpeggio di chitarra si avvale di un suono carillon, e la successiva “The Slide” è un'altra piccola coccola per l’udito. La luce s’intravede come un piccolo spiraglio nel buio in questo “non posto”.
Atmosfere sornione si fanno avanti in “Among Your Dreams”, Vaiani sembra sempre più Tim Bowness (No Man) e quando sopraggiungono voci telefoniche appare alle spalle pure l’ombra di Steven Wilson. Lo scenario è prossimo nella successiva “Dance With Me”, fra le canzoni che ho maggiormente apprezzato, per cura e classe.
Una puntata nel Rock di matrice americana giunge grazie a “Shelter”, seppur sempre legata a suoni malinconici.
Il pezzo più ritmato del disco è la title track, mentre il più lungo è il conclusivo “I Still Need You” grazie ai quasi sette minuti di cui è composto. Qui c’è tutto il bagaglio culturale di RosGos.
Vaiani è un artista ispirato, la sua musica sembra non voler disturbare, piuttosto sa fondersi con le tematiche trattate attraverso l’intelligenza di colui che ha basi solide, dettate sicuramente dall’esperienza e dai molti ascolti nel tempo. Non bisogna sempre gridare per uscire dalla mischia e RosGos sa come defilarsi da quest’attuale mondo sonoro composto sempre più d’ immondizia sonora. MS

Pain, torment, violence, love, all states of mind that scratch our existence, leaving deep scars. These arguments are often dealt with in the musical world of Rock, especially in the researched one, because precisely in Art-Rock music and lyrics go symbiotically together, generating feelings and images that manage to shape the spirit.
Arguments, if delved into, require a broad discourse, which is why Lombard musician Maurizio Vaiani (lead singer of Jenny's Joke) aka RosGos, from Lombardy, is working on a trilogy that began with "Lost In The Desert" in 2020 and continued with "Circles" (2022). After much darkness, the new "No Place" hints at a glimmer of light, which, however, falls on a "no place," leaving the listener suspended in a dissolving reality.
The music, even in its simple proposition, is palpable, a solidification that generates our brains while listening aided by veiled notes ranging from New Wave to Prog.
The album is anticipated by the video "My Cure", where under the eye of the viewfinder is the relationship of a couple, analyzed in the grittier side of its being.
The artist explains "No Place" as follows, "The sorrows that generated and accompanied this pilgrimage are not forgotten. Instead, they are accepted, assimilated and engraved in the flesh. Perhaps we have LANDED, as the title suggests, in a non-place in which to find peace".
The concept is divided into ten tracks and the aforementioned single has the burden of opening the track. One immediately denotes good recording quality, made at Bbunker Studio under Toria's production. The track ranges in refined New Wave, the pounding dirge acting as a leitmotif, surrounds itself with psychedelia giving the whole thing that light feeling.
The atmospheres are generically melancholic, as also in the case of "Doll", a carefully arranged song where electric guitars are the only ones scratching the listening.
In ethereal sounds close to the No Man world become apparent in "Bleeding Souls", while the singing is reflective and calm. The strength of this music relies on simple and immediate melodies. Notes as fragile as a crystal bubble.
The more Rock side of RosGos emerges with "Unexpressed Love", a dip into the 1980s. A guitar arpeggio makes use of a music box sound, and the following "The Slide" is another little pampering for the ear. Light is glimpsed as a small glimmer in the darkness in this "not place."
Sly atmospheres come forward in "Among Your Dreams", Vaiani sounds more and more like Tim Bowness (No Man), and when telephone voices come over, the shadow of Steven Wilson appears behind him as well. The scenario is next in the following "Dance With Me", among the songs I enjoyed most, for care and class.
A wager in American-style Rock comes thanks to "Shelter", though still linked to melancholic sounds.
The most rhythmic piece on the record is the title track, while the longest is the concluding "I Still Need You" thanks to its nearly seven minutes. RosGos entire cultural background is here.
Vaiani is an inspired artist, his music seems not to want to disturb, rather he knows how to merge with the themes dealt with through the intelligence of one who has a solid foundation, surely dictated by experience and many listens over time. One does not always have to shout to get out of the fray, and RosGos knows how to defile himself from this current sound world composed more and more of 'sonic garbage. MS
