C’è musica e musica, quella per divagarsi, quella da sottofondo, e quella che fa pensare, da centellinare come un bicchiere di whisky. Vanno tutte bene, la vita ha sempre bisogno di una colonna sonora, anche come semplice valvola di sfogo. Diceva Max Gazzè “Quello che la musica può fare, salvarti sull'orlo del precipizio, non ci si può lamentare”, perché no.
Se avete intenzione di ascoltare un qualcosa che faccia pensare e colpire i sensi, allora il nuovo album del progetto Nidoja fa al vostro caso.
Trattasi di un progetto italo svedese formato da cinque musicisti sorto nel 2005 per il volere di Nicoletta D’Auria (violoncello), e Domenico Monaco (elettronica/percussioni). Spiega la biografia ufficiale della band: “La ricerca musicale portata avanti nel corso della loro carriera, ha spinto naturalmente il duo verso sonorità mediterranee, con una particolare attenzione alla world music. Le musiche, composte prevalentemente dalla violoncellista e arrangiate in chiave elettronica, creano elementi di pura energia mistica: una sorta di vibrazione viscerale che abbraccia i continenti, le ambientazioni del nostro tempo, la fame di cultura, il desiderio di comprendere qualcosa che va oltre il conosciuto. Nel corso degli anni i Nidoja hanno collaborato con musicisti di tutto il mondo ed è stata proprio la più recente delle collaborazioni a generare UBQ (Underwater Bell Quintet), formazione in cui al duo si aggiungono altri tre musicisti: Eric Forsmark, percussionista/compositore e cofondatore del progetto internazionale “101 Flame Of Inspiration” in cui sono stati coinvolti 101 musicisti da tutto il mondo, Nicola Nesta (oud/baglama/rubab afgano) e Giuliano Di Cesare (tromba/flauto traverso/sax soprano). Con la formazione UBQ le composizioni dei Nidoja trovano una forte cassa di risonanza ed espansione sonora: un viaggio musicale che racchiude al proprio interno il magnifico suono di terre lontane! Una sorta di World Music sperimentale che apre gli orizzonti su altre culture, forzando così la mente alla visione di un'umanità più unita e solidale.”.
Espletate le dovute presentazioni veniamo ora all’album “UBQ”, composto di sei brani, a iniziare da “Underwater Bell”, con l’artwork che rappresenta una campana immersa nell’acqua, simboleggiante una voce inascoltata, un inno alla forza delle idee e al coraggio di esprimerle (malgrado tutte le dovute difficoltà del caso). Elettronica e violoncello bene sposano il concetto in uno strumentale impegnato ma non prolisso. Con “Whakapapa – The Beginning Of All Things” il lato World della musica Nidoja esce allo scoperto in tutta la freschezza, mettendo a nudo la volontà di legare il suono a immagini emotive.
“Masha” s’immerge in arie orientaleggianti attraverso un oceano di suoni supportati da una decisa ritmica di percussioni, ma il brano che più mi ha coinvolto emotivamente s’intitola “Deep Drops Of Silence” il quale manifesta anche una buona incisione sonora capace di esaltare in modo esplicito il contesto proposto.
Elettronica in cattedra per “Follow The Trees To The Ocean”, il discorso in questo caso è complementare a quello di “Masha”. A chiudere l’album c’è “Taken By The Sun And The Wind”, un malinconico andamento capace di far pensare a occhi chiusi.
I Nidoja si presentano al pubblico con un disco strumentale dal forte impatto emotivo, un frangente in cui soffermarsi a pensare e per lunghi tratti, lasciarsi trasportare dalle sonorità della terra. MS

There is music and there is music, the kind for digression, the kind for background, and the kind that makes you think, to be sipped like a glass of whiskey. They are all good, life always needs a soundtrack, even as a simple relief valve. Said Max Gazzè "What music can do, save you on the edge of the precipice, there's no complaining", why not.
If you are going to listen to something that makes you think and strike your senses, then the new album by the Nidoja project is for you.
This is an Italian-Swedish project consisting of five musicians that arose in 2005 at the behest of Nicoletta D'Auria (cello), and Domenico Monaco (electronics/percussion). The band's official biography explains, "The musical research carried out throughout their career naturally pushed the duo toward Mediterranean sounds, with a particular focus on world music. The music, composed mainly by the cellist and arranged in an electronic key, creates elements of pure mystical energy: a kind of visceral vibration that embraces the continents, the settings of our time, the hunger for culture, the desire to understand something beyond the known.
Over the years Nidoja have collaborated with musicians from all over the world, and it was the most recent of these collaborations that generated UBQ (Underwater Bell Quintet), a lineup in which the duo is joined by three other musicians: Eric Forsmark, percussionist/composer and co-founder of the international "101 Flame Of Inspiration" project involving 101 musicians from around the world; Nicola Nesta (oud/baglama/Afghan robab); and Giuliano Di Cesare (trumpet/ transverse flute/s soprano sax). With the UBQ lineup, Nidoja's compositions find a strong sounding board and sonic expansion: a musical journey that holds within it the magnificent sound of distant lands! A kind of experimental World Music that opens horizons to other cultures, thus forcing the mind to the vision of a more united and united humanity".
Having completed the necessary introductions we now come to the album "UBQ", consisting of six tracks, starting with "Underwater Bell", with the artwork depicting a bell submerged in water, symbolizing an unheard voice, a hymn to the strength of ideas and the courage to express them (despite all due difficulties involved). Electronics and cello well marry the concept in a committed but not verbose instrumental. With "Whakapapa - The Beginning Of All Things", the World side of Nidoja music comes out in all its freshness, laying bare the willingness to tie sound to emotional images.
"Masha" plunges into oriental tunes through an ocean of sounds supported by a decisive percussion rhythm, but the track that most involved me emotionally is entitled "Deep Drops Of Silence" which also manifests a good sound recording capable of explicitly enhancing the proposed context.
Electronics in the cathedra for "Follow The Trees To The Ocean", the discourse here being complementary to that of "Masha". Closing the album is "Taken By The Sun And The Wind", a melancholic progression capable of making one think with one's eyes closed.
Nidoja presents themselves to the audience with an instrumental record with a strong emotional impact, a juncture in which to pause and think and for long stretches, be carried away by the sounds of the earth. MS
