I Red Sun nascono ad Albone, un piccolo paese adagiato tra le colline di Piacenza e l'Appennino Emiliano. Fin dagli esordi, la formazione è rimasta un solido e compatto power trio strumentale composto da Stefano "Eno" Dusi (chitarra), Mirco Dugaria (basso) e Federico Rivoli (batteria, sintetizzatori).
Per i loro primi tre album culminati nel 2024 con “From Sunset To Dawn”, i nostri si sono mossi su binari prettamente strumentali, muovendosi dallo Stoner Rock di stampo desertico ("desert rock") fino a territori psichedelici più dilatati, arricchiti da synth e theremin. La svolta arriva nel 2025, quando la band decide di espandere i propri confini e inserisce in pianta stabile la cantante Elisa Brusati (già voce della rock band milanese Noema) mentre i testi vengono affidati al batterista Federico Rivoli. Con l'ingresso di Elisa, la musica dei Red Sun non si è semplicemente appoggiata a una linea vocale, ma ha trovato una dimensione molto più ampia, occulta ed eterea, paragonata da alcuni critici alle atmosfere mistiche di Tool o A Perfect Circle.
Ed oggi è la volta di “Songs From Hidden Places”, dove Il filo conduttore dei testi e delle atmosfere risiede proprio nel titolo "luoghi nascosti" (hidden places). Questi sono i rifugi mentali e fisici in cui l'essere umano cerca riparo per rigenerarsi dalle fatiche e dalle peripezie della vita. Musicalmente, il disco è un perfetto bilanciamento tra riff granitici alla Kyuss, digressioni Space Rock, incursioni elettroniche e lisergiche. Infatti la traccia d’apertura “Hidden Places” mette subito in chiaro le cose ed è una jam psichedelica ad altissimo tasso lisergico. Strati di suono si sovrappongono in modo ipnotico ma controllato. La voce di Elisa entra in punta di piedi, non come una frontwoman classica, ma come un vero e proprio strumento atmosferico che fluttua sopra i riff.
“Details From The Past” è un brano decisamente più duro e d'impatto in cui la sezione ritmica di Federico e Mirco si fa cupa e serrata, mentre le parole scavano nei ricordi e nei traumi del passato, trasformandoli in energia sonora.
La band spinge l'acceleratore sulla fantascienza vintage anni '70 in “Sleeping Brain”. I sintetizzatori e le digressioni psichedeliche disegnano un viaggio mentale alienante, sorretto da un battito lento e ipnotico. Rappresenta perfettamente lo stato d'animo di una mente che si isola dalla realtà. Il testo è fortemente metaforico ed affronta lo stato di alienazione, l'apatia e l'isolamento mentale descrivendo la sensazione di avere il "cervello addormentato", ovvero quel meccanismo di difesa psicologica che si attiva quando la realtà esterna diventa troppo pesante da sopportare.
La traccia più diretta dell’album è “The Hidden Truth”, dominata da riff di chitarra granitici che rimandano direttamente ai deserti californiani della Sky Valley. Un pezzo potente in cui la voce di Elisa si fa più incisiva e sincera. Le liriche parlano della ricerca e dell'accettazione di una verità interiore, spesso scomoda e per questo rimasta a lungo sepolta nell'ombra. È una presa di coscienza coraggiosa in cui le illusioni crollano per fare spazio alla cruda e sincera realtà di ciò che si è davvero.
Le atmosfere si fanno più cupe e pesanti con “All Things Are Written There”, lambendo territori vicini al Doomgaze. I synth ambientali creano un muro di suono claustrofobico ma affascinante, mentre il testo evoca un senso di ineluttabilità e destino.
C’è anche una traccia di transizione ricca di groove ed elettronica evocativa: “A Hidden Bond”. È probabilmente la traccia più luminosa o quantomeno speranzosa del disco. Le parole esplorano l'empatia e le connessioni invisibili (i "legami nascosti") che uniscono gli esseri umani. Racconta di come, persino nell'isolamento più profondo dei propri rifugi personali, esista un filo invisibile che ci connette a qualcun altro e che funge da ancora di salvataggio nei momenti di totale smarrimento.
La conclusione del viaggio è lisergica e strumentalmente curata, “The Secret Dope” è un pezzo ipnotico e irresistibile nel ritmo, in modalità Quantum Fantay. Le poche linee testuali agiscono come un mantra liberatorio che accompagna l'ascoltatore verso un senso di purificazione finale prima del silenzio. Per chi vi scrive è il miglio brano dell’intero lavoro.
In definitiva “Songs From Hidden Places” è un rituale psichedelico di catarsi e isolamento, perfetto per chi cerca nella musica pesante non solo l'impatto dei decibel, ma anche una profonda via di fuga mentale. MS

With Elisa's entry, Red Sun's music did not simply lean on a vocal line, but found a much broader, occult, and ethereal dimension, compared by some critics to the mystical atmospheres of Tool or A Perfect Circle.
And today it is the turn of “Songs From Hidden Places”, where the common thread of the lyrics and atmospheres lies precisely in the title "luoghi nascosti" (hidden places). These are the mental and physical refuges where human beings seek shelter to regenerate from the hardships and vicissitudes of life. Musically, the album is a perfect balance between monolithic Kyuss-style riffs, Space Rock digressions, electronic and lysergic incursions. In fact, the opening track “Hidden Places” immediately makes things clear and is a highly lysergic psychedelic jam. Layers of sound overlap in a hypnotic yet controlled manner. Elisa's voice enters on tiptoe, not like a classic frontwoman, but as a true atmospheric instrument floating above the riffs.
“Details From The Past” is a decidedly harder and more impactful track in which Federico and Mirco's rhythm section becomes dark and tight, while the words dig into memories and past traumas, transforming them into sonic energy.
The band pushes the accelerator on vintage '70s science fiction in “Sleeping Brain”. Synthesizers and psychedelic digressions design an alienating mental journey, supported by a slow and hypnotic beat. It perfectly represents the state of mind of a consciousness isolating itself from reality. The text is highly metaphorical and addresses the state of alienation, apathy, and mental isolation, describing the feeling of having a "cervello addormentato" (sleeping brain), that psychological defense mechanism triggered when external reality becomes too heavy to bear.
The most direct track on the album is “The Hidden Truth”, dominated by monolithic guitar riffs that point directly to the Californian deserts of Sky Valley. A powerful piece where Elisa's voice becomes more incisive and sincere. The lyrics speak of searching for and accepting an inner truth, often uncomfortable and for this reason buried in the shadows for a long time. It is a courageous awakening in which illusions collapse to make room for the raw and honest reality of who you truly are.
The atmospheres become darker and heavier with “All Things Are Written There”, bordering on territories close to Doomgaze. Ambient synths create a claustrophobic yet fascinating wall of sound, while the lyrics evoke a sense of inevitability and destiny.
There is also a transition track rich in groove and evocative electronics: “A Hidden Bond”. It is probably the brightest or at least most hopeful track on the album. The words explore empathy and the invisible connections (the "legami nascosti") that unite human beings. It tells how, even in the deepest isolation of one's personal shelters, an invisible thread exists that connects us to someone else and acts as a lifeline in moments of utter bewilderment.
The conclusion of the journey is lysergic and instrumentally polished, “The Secret Dope” is a track with a hypnotic and irresistible rhythm, in Quantum Fantay style. The few textual lines act as a liberating mantra that accompanies the listener toward a sense of final purification before the silence. For the writer, it is the best track of the entire work.
Ultimately, “Songs From Hidden Places” is a psychedelic ritual of catharsis and isolation, perfect for those who look to heavy music not only for the impact of decibels, but also for a profound mental escape. MS
