Nulla da fare, quando ascolto l’Hard Rock anche a distanza di tempo, mi rendo conto che la mia passione con l’età non è minimamente scalfita; resta sempre un grande piacere, vuoi perché è energia, ma soprattutto una bella valvola di sfogo.
Voglio quindi parlarvi della nuova uscita “Weird Tales” della band italo inglese fondata nel 2011 dal chitarrista italiano Gianluca Galli. Inizialmente nota per aver coinvolto Tony Martin, storico cantante dei Black Sabbath. Il loro sound fonde il classico Hard Rock anni '70 con influenze moderne, rievocando sonorità alla Led Zeppelin e Whitesnake. L'album giunge a breve distanza dalle fatiche più recenti come “Electric Omega” e il successivo “Perspectives” e si configura non come una rottura epocale, bensì come la prosecuzione naturale e l'evoluzione di un discorso Hard Rock mai nostalgico. Il disco mette da parte la grammatica più immediata o stereotipata del genere per addentrarsi in territori dominati da un fascino più notturno, dalle tinte surreali e gotiche, ridefinendo il sound della band attraverso una produzione dall’ampio respiro.
Oggi sono formati da Jacopo "Jack" Meille (voce), Gianluca Galli (chitarre), Andrea Castelli (basso), e Matteo "Bona" Bonini (batteria).
Invece di affidarsi al solito assalto frontale di riff d'impatto “Weird Tales”, che nel titolo omaggia la celebre rivista pulp fanta-horror, predilige la costruzione di micro universi narrativi. Le dodici tracce che compongono l'ossatura del disco si aprono gradualmente, lasciando spazio a venature Blues e suggestioni visionarie.
Dopo l’immancabile e breve preludio intitolato “Intro”, il disco parte con “Keep On Running”, trascinato da una ritmica solida guidata da Castelli e Bonini. Il pezzo mostra il lato più energico e stradale dei Silver Horses e sfoggia un ritornello niente male. Il testo esorta alla resilienza, all'andare avanti e al non fermarsi malgrado le ombre che tentano di rallentare la corsa.
Uno dei singoli dell’album s’intitola “Dark Ages” e musicalmente rallenta il passo, sfiorando andature Doom e pesanti di scuola sabbathiana. Il testo ha una forte impronta di critica e riflessione sul presente. Evoca un tempo non troppo lontano in cui l'umanità distingueva chiaramente il bene dal male, mentre oggi i venti della paura sembrano stringersi attorno alle libertà personali, paventando l'avvento di un nuovo medioevo sociale e spirituale. Nonostante la disillusione, emerge un messaggio di profonda unione e speranza nel finale.
Il chitarrismo di Galli si fa più essenziale in “Different Keys” sostenuto da un buon riff tagliente. La voce di Jack Meille segue le trame armoniche con un'intensità narrativa molto trattenuta, quasi confidenziale, mentre il testo scava nella complessità delle relazioni umane e nei diversi modi di decifrare la mente altrui.
Altri brani che tengo a sottolineare sono “Facing The Mirror”, singolo apripista dell’album ruvido e tuttavia  attento alle buone melodie, e “Heading For The Deep”, un tuffo nelle radici più Blues e viscerali del gruppo. L'arrangiamento si fa fangoso e denso, mentre la performance vocale di Meille tocca corde profondamente sofferte ed espressive, ricalcando un testo che metaforicamente descrive la discesa negli abissi interiori prima della risalita.
C’è anche una traccia al confine del Progressive Rock e s’intitola “The Architectures Of The Sky”, con i Led Zeppelin molto presenti.
In definitiva, “Weird Tales” è un album solido ed elegante, che dimostra come l'Hard Rock di stampo classico possa ancora evolversi ed esprimere concetti profondi nel 2026. Piacevolissimo! MS

There is no way around it, when I listen to Hard Rock, even after a long time, I realize that my passion hasn't been chipped away at all by age; it always remains a great pleasure, whether because it is pure energy, but above all, a great safety valve.
I want to talk to you about the new release “Weird Tales” by the Italian-British band founded in 2011 by Italian guitarist Gianluca Galli. Initially known for involving Tony Martin, the historic singer of Black Sabbath. Their sound blends classic '70s Hard Rock with modern influences, evoking the sounds of Led Zeppelin and Whitesnake. The album arrives a short time after their most recent efforts like “Electric Omega” and the subsequent “Perspectives”, and it presents itself not as an epochal break, but rather as the natural continuation and evolution of a Hard Rock discourse that is never nostalgic. The record sets aside the more immediate or stereotyped grammar of the genre to venture into territories dominated by a more nocturnal charm, with surreal and gothic tones, redefining the band's sound through a wide-ranging production.

Instead of relying on the usual frontal assault of high-impact riffs, “Weird Tales”, which pays homage in its title to the famous sci-fi/horror pulp magazine, prefers the construction of micro-narrative universes. The twelve tracks that make up the backbone of the record open up gradually, leaving room for Blues undertones and visionary suggestions.
After the inevitable and short prelude titled “Intro”, the record kicks off with “Keep On Running”, driven by a solid rhythmic section led by Castelli and Bonini. The track shows the more energetic and street-level side of Silver Horses and features quite a good chorus. The lyrics urge resilience, moving forward and not stopping despite the shadows that try to slow down the race.
One of the album's singles is titled “Dark Ages” and musically slows down the pace, bordering on heavy Sabbath-esque Doom tempos. The lyrics have a strong tone of criticism and reflection on the present. It evokes a time not too far gone when humanity clearly distinguished good from evil, whereas today the winds of fear seem to tighten around personal freedoms, fearing the advent of a new social and spiritual dark age. Despite the disillusionment, a message of deep unity and hope emerges in the end.
Galli's guitar work becomes more essential in “Different Keys”, supported by a good, sharp riff. Jack Meille's vocals follow the harmonic textures with a very restrained, almost confidential narrative intensity, while the lyrics delve into the complexity of human relationships and the different ways of deciphering the minds of others.
Other tracks I want to highlight are “Facing The Mirror”, the album's gritty yet melody-conscious lead single, and “Heading For The Deep”, a dive into the group's most visceral and Blues roots. The arrangement becomes muddy and dense, while Meille's vocal performance touches deeply pained and expressive chords, mirroring lyrics that metaphorically describe the descent into internal abysses before rising again.
There is also a track bordering on Progressive Rock titled “The Architectures Of The Sky”, with Led Zeppelin's influence being very prominent.
Ultimately, “Weird Tales” is a solid and elegant album, which proves how classic-style Hard Rock can still evolve and express deep concepts in 2026. Highly enjoyable! MS
