MICHELE VIVIANI – Dorian Autoproduzione Genere: Rock Psichedelico /
Progressive Rock Supporto: Bandcamp – 2026
Arma a
doppio taglio, ma sincera… E buona fortuna a tutti.
quello dell'artista eclettico e sperimentatore.Dopo i primi
ricerca timbrica, guidando l'ascoltatore attraverso 5 tracce molto
differenziate tra loro. L’iniziale
Ci
s’immerge nello studio vocale intenso attraverso “Dorian Pray” impreziosito da
suoni world.
natura complessa dell'album.

MICHELE VIVIANI – Dorian Self-release Genre: Psychedelic Rock / Progressive Rock Format: Bandcamp – 2026
Even today, these self-releases offered on the
Bandcamp portal take my mind back to the '70s, when so-called "minor"
bands (in terms of distribution, not quality) struggled to emerge while facing a
thousand problems, so much so that they often disappeared after just one album.
Yes, I say this because many authors rely on platforms—which at least don't ask
for money—hoping for a visibility that nevertheless remains hidden behind
thousands of daily releases. So we are not facing the exact same context, but
the same desire to have one's say without anyone altering what one wants to
create. A double-edged sword, but a sincere one… And good luck to everyone. This preamble leads us to get to know Michele Viviani,
whose figure has always moved along a dual track: that of a rigorous
educator/vocal coach and that of an eclectic, experimental artist. After his
early works linked to singer-songwriter music (E La Nave Va) and pure vocal
experimentation (Momenti), Viviani immersed himself in the in-depth study of
Gregorian chant, early music, and chamber music (collected in the two volumes
of Chamber Music, also dedicated to composers such as John Dowland). Already
with works like the EP “Victimae” (2024), centered on the reworking of
Gregorian sequences, the Bolognese artist refined a compositional technique
capable of creating a dialogue between apparently distant languages. Today
“Dorian” gathers these experiences and re-project them into a modern and at
times even Jazz Rock framework. The voice is not a simple instrument to deliver
lyrics, but becomes the main axis of the sound architecture: varying in
dynamics, register, and timbral research, guiding the listener through 5 very
distinct tracks. The opening “Rainbow Mama” has a hypnotic, King
Crimson-style attitude, but also the breadth of an ancient, bucolic landscape. We submerge ourselves into an intense vocal study
through “Dorian Pray”, embellished with world music sounds. In its over nine
minutes of duration, it embodies the complex nature of the album. The
multi-instrumentalist picks up his guitar to open “Metamorfosi” through
arpeggios. The vocal experimentation continues undeterred and stands out for
time signature changes and vocal overlays with a continuous interplay between
dissonance and harmonic resolution. It is the track in which the Progressive
Rock foundation and the theatrical use of the voice emerge most clearly. “La Caccia” resumes the Crimson-esque pace; here the
rhythm is tight, almost obsessive, visually simulating the frenzy of a chase.
The vocal line becomes harsher, raspier, and loaded with drama, driving the
arrangement toward expressive peaks of great emotional impact. Closing the album we find “Crying”, which softens the
convulsive tones of “La Caccia” to veer toward a decidedly more intimate and
contemplative dimension. Supported by a liquid, melancholy harmony, the piece
leaves room for a touching, nuanced, and measured vocal performance that seals
the record, leaving a persistent echo. “Dorian” is therefore a work of personal synthesis in
which Michele Viviani puts to good use decades of teaching experience,
technique, and a visceral passion for singing and composition, offering an
organic, varied, and refined work. The album cover is an elaboration of "La
Charmeuse de serpents" by Henri Rousseau 1907. MS

LACERTAE – The One Bone Autoproduzione Genere: Rock Psichedelico /
Progressive Folk Supporto: Bandcamp – 2026
Tante
specialmente negli anni ‘90. Una di queste si chiama L.B. Lacertae, band di
Montecchio Emilia nata nei primi anni ’80.L'album “The One Bone” costituisce
spoglia la materia musicale fino all'osso.Per comprendere gli
L.B.Lacertae occorre immergersi nell'atmosfera dell'Emilia degli anni '90. Tra
Reggio Emilia, Modena e Sassuolo, l'esplosione del Rock indipendente italiano
aveva trovato un proprio linguaggio d'elezione, scarno, poetico, politico e legato
alla terra ma proiettato verso il mondo. Mentre
all'elemento primario, incorruttibile e strutturale: l'osso.
Menozzi (voce, armonica), Massimo Montali (basso), Paolo Pattini (sax, flauto),
Paolo Spaggiari (chitarra, voce), e Ulisse Tramalloni (batteria). La
musica proposta unisce Rock d’atmosfera, sensibilità psichedelica, elementi Folk,
e aperture Progressive.
“Like A Little Bird” gli L.B. Lacertae mostrano un lato più malinconico e
riflessivo.
tempo, spezzandosi. Molto
Altra
bellissima composizione è “See The Heaven In My Eyes”, un tuffo nella Psichedelia
“The
a compromessi commerciali e senza scimmiottare acriticamente i modelli
anglosassoni.

L.B. LACERTAE – The One Bone Self-released Genre: Psychedelic Rock / Progressive Folk Format: Bandcamp – 2026
Many are the bands that have walked the Italian soil,
sometimes without leaving major footprints, but which nevertheless held their
own value within the Rock realm, especially in the 90s. One of these is called
L.B. Lacertae, a band from Montecchio Emilia formed in the early 80s. The album
“The One Bone” constitutes the band's definitive artistic manifesto: a dark,
visceral record that strips musical substance down to the bone. To understand
L.B. Lacertae, one must immerse oneself in the atmosphere of 90s Emilia.
Between Reggio Emilia, Modena, and Sassuolo, the explosion of Italian
independent Rock had found its own language of choice—spare, poetic, political,
and rooted in the land yet projected toward the world. While bands like C.S.I., Ustmamò, Disciplinatha, and
A.F.A. were redefining the concept of singer-songwriter music and Rock in
Italy, L.B. Lacertae formed bringing with them an even more contaminated and
experimental attitude. The album's title is the key to understanding the
entire work: stripping the human being and the music of every embellishment and
excess flesh to reach the primary, incorruptible, and structural element: the
bone. It is to be considered in every respect a journey of spiritual and
material deconditioning. The authors of all this are Daniele Cattani (guitars,
keyboards, backing vocals), Guido Menozzi (lead vocals, harmonica), Massimo
Montali (bass), Paolo Pattini (sax, flute), Paolo Spaggiari (guitar, vocals),
and Ulisse Tramalloni (drums). The proposed music combines atmospheric Rock,
psychedelic sensitivity, Folk elements, and Progressive openings. Written over
more than forty years of existence, there are seven tracks, starting with
“Angel” with its hypnotic, magical stride heightened by the use of the flute.
Psychedelia is strongly present thanks in part to Menozzi's measured vocal delivery.
The track perfectly reflects the group's instrumental qualities as well as
their synergy and strong compositional ideas. The guitar solo, though brief,
highlights what has been said, immersing the listener into the world of Pink
Floyd. The sax opens “Bloody Mirror”, a track that is itself intricate while
remaining firmly within the spirit of good underlying melodies. With “Like A Little Bird”, L.B. Lacertae show a more
melancholy and reflective side. The piece is a heartbreaking elegy dedicated to
those who left too soon, representing the vulnerability of life and the
premature end of a young existence. A creature made to fly (youth, dreams,
lightheartedness) that falls to the earth ahead of its time, breaking apart. Very beautiful is “Welcome To Drink With Us”, opened
by a guitar arpeggio and vocals on the verge of a whisper. Its internal
crescendos are always delicate and melancholy, releasing poignant atmospheres,
especially when Pattini's sax comes in. More Folk-oriented is “Sexy Hands”, in which the
lyrics reflect on the post-sexual revolution. The idealism of the 60s and 70s
(liberation, free love) has collapsed and been swallowed by the pragmatism,
cynicism, and consumerism of the 80s. What remains of sex or relationships is
no longer a deep union or social change, but a cold transaction. Sex becoming
merchandise. Another gorgeous composition is “See The Heaven In My
Eyes”, a plunge into Psychedelia through Pink Floyd-esque arpeggios and
background soundscapes that intertwine with vocal harmonies. The flute returns
in the closing track “Endless Horizons”, another delicate composition rich in
touching musical ideas. “The One Bone” by L.B. Lacertae remains one of the
most authentic testimonies of how in 90s Italy one could make alternative music
without resorting to commercial compromises and without uncritically copying
Anglo-Saxon models. The Emilian band managed to take the lesson of
international noise and graft it onto a provincial, epic, and primordial
sensitivity. A courageous album that deserves to be rediscovered by anyone
wishing to fully understand the depth of the Italian underground Rock scene of
that decade. MS

/ CD Baby Genere:
Post Prog / Post Prog Moderno Supporto: Bandcamp – 2026
stratificazioni spaziali create in studio.La band è attualmente
composta da Julian Kirk (voce, chitarra), Jake Aubrey (batteria), Alex Adams
(tastiere, cori), e Taibah Orpin (basso, cori).
psichedelici e immersivi mutuati dai Pink Floyd. Come avrete capito, molta
carne al fuoco per palati sopraffini. L'album
“The
fra Radiohead e Muse in bilico fra malinconia e Rock energico. In
caratteristiche descritte sino a qui, convogliate in unico brano altamente
coinvolgente. “DreamState”
britannico. MS

Echorec were formed in Bristol in 2015 initially as a
trio, united by a shared love for conceptual and narrative Rock driven by odd
time signatures and complex structures. The line-up expanded and evolved in
2020 with the permanent addition of keyboardist Alex Adams, a move that allows
the group to reproduce live the intricate sonic architectures and spatial
stratifications created in the studio. The band is currently composed of Julian
Kirk (vocals, guitar), Jake Aubrey (drums), Alex Adams (keyboards, backing
vocals), and Taibah Orpin (bass, backing vocals). Their debut album, “The Island”, released in 2020, met
with great critical acclaim in the British underground, enough to earn the band
a spot among the most promising projects of the year by the historic Prog
Magazine. After a long gestation period, the long-awaited follow-up,
“DreamState”, was released in June 2026, celebrated with a tour and an official
launch gig in Bristol. Their stylistic proposal is defined as maximalist Post
Prog, a blend of the rhythmic drive and complexity of outfits like Rush and
Porcupine Tree, the melodic intimacy reminiscent of Radiohead or Jeff Buckley,
and the psychedelic, immersive landscapes borrowed from Pink Floyd. As you may
have gathered, there is plenty of meat on the bone for refined palates. The album consists of 6 tracks and revolves around a
suggestive concept embodied by the title itself, namely the exploration of
dream states ("DreamState"), the thin line between perception and
reality, psychological introspection, and modern alienation. “Heartland” opens the music with touching piano and
vocals, further enriched by fine vocal harmonies. The central Neo Prog section
is excellent, featuring a guitar solo that harks back to the days of the best
Marillion. It speaks of the attachment to one's roots or to a safe place in the
mind that, however, begins to waver and become distorted under the weight of
daily anxieties. “The Watcher” could easily belong in Gazpacho's
discography, a mix between Radiohead and Muse balanced between melancholy and
energetic Rock. In “Born To Lead”, the influence of Rush clearly
emerges in the dynamism of the time signature changes and in the millimetric
interactions between the rhythmic section and the intricate guitar work. Julian
Kirk's vocals showcase grit and expressive theatricality. It stands among the
more lighthearted moments of the record, thanks also to a pleasant guitar
contribution embedded in an easily memorable riff. Echorec make a bold statement with “Behind Closed
Eyes”, a piece that is highly Prog in both attitude and historical feel; the
building sonic swells that then subside are very reminiscent of both early
Spock’s Beard and certain Porcupine Tree. It is therefore the excellent
instrumental parts that prove most convincing and engaging. A decisive change of direction comes with “Blood
Moon”, catchy, delicate, and full of pathos, but it is the eleven minutes of
the closing track “Ghost In The Dream” that best showcase who Echores [sic]
really are, blending all their characteristics described so far into a single,
highly engaging song. “DreamState” is not only a confirmation of Echorec's
crystalline talent, but it represents an outstanding manifesto of what artistic
independence can produce today. Moving with ease between the geometric
complexity of modern Prog and a striking melodic sensitivity, the Bristol
quartet delivers a cohesive, mature work free of any drop in tension. An
essential listen for anyone wishing to understand where British Modern Post
Prog is heading today. MS
SPICY
BRAIN - Wait A Minute... Luminol
Records / Ma.Ra.Cash Genere:
Art Rock / Strumentale Supporto: CD / Bandcamp – 2021
Quiriconi (chitarra), Dario Grassi (batteria) e Ivan Barassi (basso).
aperture psichedeliche. Dopo aver
Spadanuda (Urbanmagic) e Gab.Gato.
Titoli
eccentrici e soluzioni armoniche inaspettate servono a smorzare l'autocompiacimento
“Leaving The Dream” è invece una traccia
Barassi. La
title-track funge da perfetto manifesto programmatico.
geometrici. Infine
“Sunny Midnight Date” gioca sui contrasti (sole/mezzanotte).
freschezza esecutiva encomiabile. MS
Versione Inglese:
SPICY BRAIN - Wait A Minute... Luminol Records / Ma.Ra.Cash Genre: Art Rock / Instrumental Format: CD / Bandcamp – 2021
Spicy Brains originated as an Italian instrumental
trio consisting of Luca Quiriconi (guitar), Dario Grassi (drums), and Ivan
Barassi (bass). The project developed around the desire to blend apparently
distant genres that are nonetheless united by a strong dynamic drive: modern
Progressive Rock, Metal, Funk deviations in the basslines (which at times may
recall the eclectic and ironic approach of transalpine bands like Mörglbl), and
constant psychedelic openings. After catching the attention of the independent
label Luminol Records—which has always been attentive to Avant-Garde,
Post-Rock, and Prog movements on both artistic and social levels—the band
formalized their full-length debut precisely with “Wait A Minute...”. The
record was mixed by Davide Pagano at Ultra Studio and mastered by Raimondo
Maira, with artwork and graphics handled by Simonluca Spadanuda (Urbanmagic)
and Gab.Gato. Since there are no lyrics, the album's concept must be found in
the dramaturgical structure of the pieces. The band themselves stated that the
"Spicy Brains" ("cervelli piccanti/frizzanti") approach is
first and foremost a state of mind required to approach the listening
experience actively. The tracks were born during long months of isolation and
the subsequent restart, translating claustrophobia and the need for escapism
into music. Eccentric titles and unexpected harmonic solutions
serve to soften the technical self-indulgence typical of certain Progressive
Rock, offering an ironic outlet for the distortions of everyday life. The
"interferenze" of the title translate into continuous time signature
changes and geometric riffs that introduce the listener to the trio's cerebral
complexity. The absence of vocals thus shifts the focus onto the listener's
inner journey, stimulated by continuous dynamic contrasts through the
relaxation of Funk against the drive of Metal. The album unfolds across 9 tracks that showcase a
tight interplay and an excellent transition between markedly heavy moments and
irresistible grooves, starting with “Cosmic Interferenc”. “Leaving The Dream”,
on the other hand, is a track with a more atmospheric breath in which the
guitar weaves suspended melodic textures before the rhythm section takes over,
shifting the center of gravity toward a modern and compact Prog Metal.
Excellent bass work by Barassi. The title track serves as a perfect programmatic
manifesto. It is an invitation to pause, a halting of time punctuated by
continuous stop-and-go moments, where the bass assumes a markedly Funky and
pulsating role, dialoguing on equal terms with the evolutions of the
six-string. “Downbeat” is built on odd time signatures and a square yet
unpredictable rhythmic backbone, exploring the darker and more earthly nuances
of the trio's sound. The band's irony shines through the title “Camel Fart”, a
piece of very high technical content, demonstrating how executive complexity
can marry pure fun. Next is “Friends (Spicy Friendship)”, which celebrates
the trio's alchemy and human cohesion. The melodic lines become warmer and more
empathetic, highlighting the more purely Rock and communicative side of their
music. Hypnotic Psychedelia is brought to light in the track “Cyclic Recycle”,
an excellent example of how Spicy Brains manage the internal tension of a song
through sonic layering. And then it is the turn of Prog Metal with “Pumapumku”,
named after the famous Bolivian archaeological site known for its megalithic
stone blocks fitted together to the millimeter. A perfect metaphor for the
song's sonic architecture, made of heavy, precise, and geometric rhythmic
interlockings. Finally, “Sunny Midnight Date” plays on contrasts
(sun/midnight). It showcases an oblique mood, suspended between nocturnal
Psychedelia and flashes of Rock light. “Wait A Minute...” thus reveals itself to be an
excellent manifesto of homegrown instrumental Art Prog Rock: solid, free of
genre barriers, and played with commendable executive freshness. MS
MUTAZIONI – Autopsia Anima Autoproduzione Genere: Alternative Rock Supporto: Bandcamp – 2026
Avrete
Mazzaccara (basso), Manuel Carbone (batteria, testi), e Filippo Terenzi
(tastiere/synths, mix, mastering). L'album
Riff pesanti, ritmiche
d'impatto e un'atmosfera opprimente come facevano i Litfiba negli anni ’80. La
svolta emotiva e luminosa del disco giunge attraverso “Punti Di Luce”, edè
la traccia della speranza e della consapevolezza. “Apnea”
MS
MUTAZIONI – Autopsia Anima Self-released Genre: Alternative Rock Format: Bandcamp – 2026
You may have noticed as well that in the Rock and Pop
sphere in Italy, bands—or "i complessi", as they used to be
called—have almost disappeared over time. Not that the more politically and
socially engaged singer-songwriters have met a better fate, but fortunately in
the underground there is always a slight breeze indicating the presence of
someone who has made this music a creed even today. Many retrace the steps of a style that may have
already been heard, while others try to contribute something of their own by
analyzing both the past and the present, filtering it all through personality
while carefully avoiding AI. Mutazioni are an ever-evolving Alternative Rock band
offering original tracks that are, as they put it, "influenced by their
own influences." They debuted in 2025 with their self-titled album, and
shortly thereafter they release this "Autopsia Anima". The group consists of Alessandro Soncini (vocals,
lyrics), Emilio Pardo (guitars), Carlo Mazzaccara (bass), Manuel Carbone
(drums, lyrics), and Filippo Terenzi (keyboards/synths, mixing, mastering). The album moves along a very specific conceptual
thread, a path of decompression and descent into the shadows (Autopsia Anima,
Peste Nera) that passes through temptation and illusion (La Mela, Menzoniero),
before searching for a glimmer of salvation or awareness (Punti di Luce, Apnea)
and closing in a state of suspension (Stazione di Passaggio). And it is precisely the title track that opens the
album with a vigorous sound clinging to that style of Rock bridging great
guitar riffs and the movement of the '80s itself. The lyrics address the theme
of inner dissection, the raw and ruthless examination of one's failures and
vulnerabilities, treating the soul not as an abstract entity, but as matter to
be dissected on the gaming table of life. "La Mela" is pleasant, where Rock marries
certain choices dear, for instance, to our own singer-songwriter Nek as well.
The apple represents primordial temptation, the glittering deception of
modernity. The lyrics play with the iconography of original sin revisited in a
contemporary key, the irrational desire for what hurts us, and the awareness of
the fall. Robust Rock returns with "Menzoniero", the
true soul of the band where lyrics that are never cliché intersect with the
pleasure of living Rock. The most structured track on the album is titled
"Ordinaria Utopia", opening with an introspective section before
developing into a dynamic crescendo featuring time signature changes and
guitar/synth solos with a distinctly Progressive feel. The central theme is the
illusion of everyday life. The "ordinary utopia" is the dream of a
perfect or peaceful life that regularly clashes with routine, hypocrisies, and
the constraints of modern society. "Peste Nera", on the other hand,
is the heaviest and most aggressive moment of the album. Heavy riffs, impactful
rhythms, and an oppressive atmosphere much like Litfiba used to do in the '80s. The emotional and luminous turning point of the record
arrives through "Punti Di Luce", representing the track of hope and
awareness. "Apnea" opens with a fine, sharp riff and
brings the drive back into Rock territory bordering on Hard Rock, while the
closing falls to "Stazione Di Passaggio", a reflective and very
catchy movement. There is no true conclusion or final destination, but only a
place of transit in which to reckon with what has been left behind and prepare for
the next chapter. "Autopsia Anima" is a sincere chapter of
love toward a genre struggling to resurface due to a massive influx of
contemporary songs that push Rock aside in favor of AI and other trends
prioritizing the lightness of "not thinking." MS

Anglagard, Anekdoten,
Landberk, Ageness, Fruitcake, The Flower Kings, Sinkadus… I nomi sarebbero a
contaminazioni Jazz “Realms” (2022). La formazione attuale è composta da Heikki
Hallanoro (percussioni), Tuuli Jartti (violino), Merja Järvelin (cori,
artwork), Esa Juujärvi (basso, voce), Samuli Lindberg (batteria), Joni Mäkelä
(chitarra), Vilma Pesola (voce), Mikko Vuorela (flauto, armonica), Jarmo Väärä (tromba).
minimali trame testuali usati come veri e propri strumenti aggiuntivi.
violini, trombe e percussioni tribali.“Garden Of Celestials” è
il brano d'apertura e trasporta immediatamente l'ascoltatore nello spazio cosmico.
L'atmosfera è oscura, eterea e solenne.
“To Be Led By The Lost” è struggente e a
In “A
MS

The allure of Northern Europe is an established fact;
the wonderful nature in which it is immersed leads, artistically speaking, to
the creation of works deeply linked to it, to its darkness and coldness. We
Italics, who are clung to sunniness, are particularly subject to this
fascination coming from a culture that is decidedly distant from ours. Finland,
just like Sweden and Norway, is home to great artists dedicated to Progressive
Rock, so much so that in the 90s they brought new life to a genre that was more
or less agonizing. Änglagård, Anekdoten, Landberk, Ageness, Fruitcake, The
Flower Kings, Sinkadus… The names could be in the hundreds, but today we come
to our times with Onségen Ensemble. Born in northern Finland in the Oulu/Hiukkavaara area
in the mid-2000s, Onségen Ensemble are not a band in the traditional sense of
the term, but a true artistic collective in constant mutation. Their philosophy
is based on a fluid structure, a stable core of musicians surrounded by
collaborators and guests who change from album to album, bringing new
instruments, voices, and perspectives each time. This total stylistic freedom
has allowed them to evolve without remaining trapped in the dogmas of a single
musical genre. Before arriving at “A Tale”, the line-up traced a solid path
through four discographical chapters such as “Awalaï” (2016), “Duel” (2018),
“Fear” (2020), and the highly appreciated album for its Jazz contaminations
“Realms” (2022). The current line-up consists of Heikki Hallanoro (percussion),
Tuuli Jartti (violin), Merja Järvelin (backing vocals, artwork), Esa Juujärvi (bass,
vocals), Samuli Lindberg (drums), Joni Mäkelä (guitar), Vilma Pesola (vocals),
Mikko Vuorela (flute, harmonica), Jarmo Väärä (trumpet). With “A Tale”, the production was entrusted to Niko
Lehdontie, known for his work with prominent entities of the Finnish
psychedelic and underground scene such as Oranssi Pazuzu and Kairon; IRSE!, who
was able to give the album a subtle and hypnotic psychedelic touch, perfectly
balanced by a profound melodic grace. Unlike traditional Rock records, the
music here is predominantly instrumental and atmospheric, enriched by evocative
vocalizations, choral chants, or minimal textual textures used as real
additional instruments. The central theme around which the entire album
revolves is peace. The collective itself described it as follows: "Peace
in many ways seems to be the only value that still has real meaning in today's
world. Peace is diversity, what we often do not dare to be.". The
"lyrics" and the song titles do not therefore tell linear stories,
but function as poetic and philosophical suggestions. It is a lyrical journey
that addresses the primordial contrast between light and darkness, the search
for an inner refuge, and the melancholy linked to how human beings wound and
trample upon the very concept of harmony and nature. The album develops over a
duration of about 42 minutes divided into 7 tracks, characterized by an
incredibly warm, organic, and layered sound, enriched by flutes, violins,
trumpets, and tribal percussion. “Garden Of Celestials” is the opening track
and immediately transports the listener into cosmic space. The atmosphere is
dark, ethereal, and solemn. The sonic textures layer slowly, creating the
feeling of a night journey or a ritual introduction towards a mythological
garden. “To Be Led By The Lost” is poignant and at times bleak, where the
band's Jazz roots re-emerge with strength. The brass arrangements intertwine
with a deliciously melancholic rhythm section, building an emotional tension
that grows minute by minute. In “A Thought” a dimension of purer peace and
introspection reigns. The piece stands out for an almost tribal and ceremonial
quality, guided by warm percussion and enveloping voices that seem to lift up
to cradle us. Among the pieces I appreciated the most is “The Word”, built on a
magnetic and repetitive guitar riff that is highly addictive. On this basis,
the ensemble enjoys playing with nuances that recall the style of Spaghetti
Western soundtracks (à la Ennio Morricone), dilating and manipulating the main
motif in an unpredictable way. Very beautiful is also the concluding “Crystal
Waters Of Spring”, where surprisingly, the band introduces wonderful and
enveloping oriental sonorities that completely overturn the narrative. Close your eyes and let yourself be guided, because “A
Tale” is the precious sound of a harmony we thought was lost. MS

Finalmente
intera generazione, quella nata negli anni ’60: I cosiddetti Boomer.
Potremmo definirli, in modo scherzoso,
Agli esordi vengono notati a “Rockin' Umbria” dove
Unito, pubblicano album fondamentali come “GTOCLUB” (2002), “GTOSPECIAL” 2007,
contenente il singolo cult “La Sposa” e “Mondiàl” (2010). Le loro canzoni
finiscono in colonne sonore di film indipendenti e serie TV europee. Celebrano
“Go GTO Go (1993-2023)”.
Raggrupperei
ora tre brani, “Bella Bellissima”, “Se Tu Non Avessi Me” e “Oscar”, ballate
acustiche, organo e ritmiche morbide.
Uno
sguardo all’America Rock con “New York City”, mentre “Pirata” narra la storia
entrambe eleganti e molto orecchiabili.
melodie nostrane e influenze multiculturali. In
L'album riesce a far
MS

Finally, a band that delves into the immense adaptive
strength to life of an entire generation, the one born in the '60s: the
so-called Boomers. They are the ones who went through a creative childhood
filled with hand-made games, hard work, and above all, knew how to keep up with
the times. We could playfully define them as true superheroes. It is no coincidence that this topic is thoroughly
explored by a band of that age group, but above all, one that listened to
excellent music from a young age—Rock when it was Rock! GTO was formed in San Leo Bastia in the province of
Perugia in the year 1993. Over the years, they have built a compelling and
unmistakable musical identity, often described as "glocal"—an
explosive synthesis of Italian singer-songwriter Folk, Rock, Balkan rhythms,
Caribbean influences (Ska and Reggae), and American sounds. Early in their
career, they were noticed at “Rockin' Umbria,” where they opened for Willy
DeVille, and in 1998, they won “Arezzo Wave” with the track “Fiori Nel Fiume”.
Driven by relentless touring in Italy and Europe, including a UK tour, they
released landmark albums such as “GTOCLUB” (2002), “GTOSPECIAL” 2007 (featuring
the cult single “La Sposa”), and “Mondiàl” (2010). Their songs ended up on the
soundtracks of independent films and European TV series. They celebrated their
twenty-year career with “Little Italy,” produced by Leonardo "Fresco"
Beccafichi, and represented Umbria at the Milan EXPO in 2015. In 2023, they
celebrated thirty years of activity with the double anthological CD “Go GTO Go
(1993-2023)”. Today they are back with the project and tour “Boomer”. This
album is a manifesto of maturity, a journey through generational self-irony,
bar stories, social portraits, and plenty of acoustic and electric energy. And here immediately is a generational anthem opening
the tracklist: the title track “Boomer” with its Ska groove. The lyrics
reference Pasolini, Fellini, vinyl records, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the summer
of love, and memories of the World Cup. It is not a nostalgic lament, but the
realization of a generation that grew up with the utopias of the '60s/'70s,
seeking answers and understanding "che risposta non c'è" (that there
is no answer). That “Bum, bum, boomer” of the chorus is perfectly suited for live
sessions—immediate and compelling, backed by a driving rhythm section that
transforms memory into a celebration. Another amarcord is “Gita Del Quinto”, blending
popular rhythms and acoustic accordion sounds with a traveling flavor, perfect
for capturing the atmosphere of a tour bus journey. The lyrics describe first
transgressions, school crushes, and that sense of imperfect freedom typical of
being eighteen. I would now group three tracks: “Bella Bellissima”,
“Se Tu Non Avessi Me”, and “Oscar”—warm, mid-tempo ballads where the lead vocal
rests on woven acoustic guitars, organ, and smooth rhythms. They represent the
more intimate, singer-songwriter side of the record, dealing with
unconventional relationships, figures on the margins of society, and everyday
feelings experienced with genuineness. Both “Giamaica” and “Gin And Tonic”, on the other
hand, represent the band's lighter, more festive soul—made of escapism, summer
nights, toasts, and the desire to unplug. Offbeat rhythms (Ska and Reggae)
dominate, accompanied by a bright horn section that recalls the atmosphere of
their historic square concerts. And here come GTO casting a glance at "where we
come from"—the music that marked the beginning of the entire modern era:
the Blues. They do so through a tribute to “Robert Johnson”, which is a
successful blend of American Roots Blues and the band's Mediterranean Folk Rock
sensibility, where gritty guitars and street energy fuse together. The Punk Folk of “TSO (Trattamento Sanitario
Obbligatorio)” is delightful—a satirical, biting track that turns the concept
of madness on its head: in a neurotic, homogenized society, who is really the
crazy one to be institutionalized? A nod to American Rock comes with “New York City”,
while “Pirata” tells the story of a man falling in love with a woman set to a
singer-songwriter style music with a '70s feel. “Storia Di Chiara” is a nostalgic acoustic ballad
recalling a school friend, leading into two bonus tracks: “Orgoglio”, sung by
guest Maria Elisa Bernardini, and “Straniera” featuring Angelique, both elegant
and very catchy. The latter is a delicate tale about encountering the other,
geographical roots, and emigration—themes long dear to GTO's songwriting. It
features an enfolding Ethno Folk texture, guided by acoustic instruments and an
arrangement that mixes Italian melodies with multicultural influences. In conclusion, “Boomer” is an album that conveys great
joy and is suitable for many occasions, such as a nice car ride. The album
manages to get people dancing while reflecting on the passage of time,
confirming the Umbrian band as a guaranteed benchmark for quality popular
music. MS
