Tengo subito a dire che "Histoire D’Un Enfant" è un'opera di straordinaria sensibilità. Il disco porta la firma del batterista e compositore torinese Andrea Penna, ma sarebbe riduttivo considerarlo un semplice disco da batterista. Si tratta, a tutti gli effetti, di un concept album orchestrale, sinfonico e profondamente narrativo, dove le percussioni non cercano mai il virtuosismo fine a se stesso, ma si fanno motore del racconto.
L'album sceglie programmaticamente una via artigianale, suonata interamente col cuore e con la mente, rifiutando campionamenti freddi o scorciatoie digitali. Il fulcro ritmico è sorretto dallo storico trio torinese composto da Andrea Penna (batteria e percussioni), Massimo Artiglia (pianoforte e tastiere) e Umberto Mari (basso). Ma per dare vita alle sfumature globali di “Histoire D’Un Enfant”, Andrea Penna ha radunato intorno a sé collaboratori internazionali di assoluto rilievo che rispondono ai nomi di Mamoù Rasta Fané (Voce - dal Mali), Masato Inoue (Chitarre - dal Giappone), Mario Petracca (Chitarre), e Antonio Santoro (Flauto).
Mamoù con le sue linee vocali calde, ancestrali e profondamente espressive, porta l'Africa occidentale dentro il cuore del disco, in particolare nella title track e nella corale “Close Your Eyes”. Masato arricchisce i brani più dinamici del disco con il suo tocco, sospeso tra il chitarrismo Prog europeo e la fusion asiatica. Caratterizza in modo netto la cavalcata esotica di “Elephant's Journey” e gli intrecci di “Close Your Eyes”. Petracca apporta il suo lavoro elegante alle sei corde su “Un Altro Viaggio” e “Carla”, mentre Santoro con il flauto interviene per alleggerire e colorare le atmosfere di “Annette”.  A loro si aggiunge Silvia Bonino all’arpa in “Groove Therapy”.
Otto i brani che compongono l’album per oltre 46 minuti di musica.
“Histoire D’Un Enfant” introduce immediatamente l'ascoltatore nel tema centrale dell'infanzia con un'atmosfera sospesa e sognante, arricchita dagli interventi vocali della cantante Mamoù Rasta Fané e dello stesso Penna. Questo è il manifesto di un viaggio che parte radicato nella melodia europea per poi guardare altrove.
“Groove Therapy” è nomen omen, dove la batteria dialoga in modo serrato con le linee di basso pulsanti e le evoluzioni armoniche delle tastiere. Si giunge invece in territori solari e percussionistici con l’eccellente “Elephant’s Journey”, qui viene fuori tutta la maestria di Penna.
A questo punto c’è un momento di grande suggestione strumentale, “Annette”, una piccola goccia per purificare l’anima.
Il mio brano preferito dell’intero lotto è “Close Your Eyes”, una complessa ballata Jazz Rock in cui convergono le voci di Mamoù Rasta Fané, Massimo Artiglia e Penna, insieme alla chitarra di Masato Inoue. Rappresenta l'invito a chiudere gli occhi per lasciarsi trasportare dall'immaginazione e dal sogno, abbattendo ogni confine geografico.
Firmato a quattro mani da Penna e dal pianista Massimo Artiglia, “Un Altro Viaggio” si sposta in territori più introspettivi. Le chitarre di Mario Petracca ricamano trame dal forte impatto emotivo, evocando l'idea del distacco, della partenza o del cambiamento, muovendosi tra Jazz d'atmosfera e venature Rock.
Un'altra gemma sonora viene firmata da Umberto Mari, “Carla” è una ballata raffinatissima e profondamente malinconica, in cui emerge nuovamente la chitarra di Mario Petracca. Le dinamiche sono felpate e misurate, e la batteria di Penna lavora di fino sui piatti e sulle sfumature per assecondare il tono intimo dell'arrangiamento. L'album si chiude con una traccia dal titolo emblematico “Nothing Will Ever Be The Same” ("Nulla sarà più lo stesso"). È la conclusione del viaggio del bambino che, dopo aver attraversato ritmi, mondi e culture diverse, ne esce inevitabilmente cambiato e arricchito. Un finale aperto, intenso e guidato da una progressione strumentale che sintetizza l'anima Jazz Fusion e lo spirito libero dell'intero progetto.
In un'epoca di ascolti frammentati e fast food, “Histoire D’Un Enfant” è un album che richiede il ritorno al vecchio rito del buon ascolto: cuffie in testa, libretto tra le mani (la cura grafica del progetto fisico è notevole) e via, dall'inizio alla fine, lasciandosi trasportare dal flusso delle immagini sonore. Un piccolo gioiello di artigianato musicale italiano da godere. MS

I would like to say right away that "Histoire D’Un Enfant" is a work of extraordinary sensitivity. The album bears the signature of the Turinese drummer and composer Andrea Penna, but it would be reductive to consider it a simple drummer's album. It is, to all intents and purposes, an orchestral, symphonic, and deeply narrative concept album, where the percussion never seeks virtuosity for its own sake, but rather becomes the engine of the story.
The album programmatically chooses a handcrafted path, played entirely with heart and mind, rejecting cold sampling or digital shortcuts. The rhythmic fulcrum is supported by the historic trio from Turin composed of Andrea Penna (drums and percussion), Massimo Artiglia (piano and keyboards), and Umberto Mari (bass). But to bring to life the global nuances of "Histoire D’Un Enfant", Andrea Penna has gathered around him international collaborators of absolute importance who answer to the names of Mamoù Rasta Fané (Vocals - from Mali), Masato Inoue (Guitars - from Japan), Mario Petracca (Guitars), and Antonio Santoro (Flute).
Mamoù, with her warm, ancestral, and deeply expressive vocal lines, brings West Africa into the heart of the album, particularly in the title track and in the choral "Close Your Eyes". Masato enriches the more dynamic tracks of the album with his touch, suspended between European Prog guitar styles and Asian fusion. He clearly characterizes the exotic ride of "Elephant's Journey" and the intertwinings of "Close Your Eyes". Petracca brings his elegant work to the six strings on "Un Altro Viaggio" and "Carla", while Santoro intervenes with the flute to lighten and color the atmosphere of "Annette". Joining them is Silvia Bonino on the harp in "Groove Therapy".
Eight tracks make up the album for over 46 minutes of music.
"Histoire D’Un Enfant" immediately introduces the listener to the central theme of childhood with a suspended and dreamy atmosphere, enriched by the vocal interventions of the singer Mamoù Rasta Fané and Penna himself. This is the manifesto of a journey that starts rooted in European melody and then looks elsewhere.
"Groove Therapy" is nomen omen, where the drums dialogue tightly with the pulsing bass lines and the harmonic evolutions of the keyboards. On the other hand, we reach sunny and percussive territories with the excellent "Elephant’s Journey", where all of Penna's mastery comes out.
At this point, there is a moment of great instrumental suggestion, "Annette", a small drop to purify the soul.
My favorite track of the whole lot is "Close Your Eyes", a complex Jazz Rock ballad in which the voices of Mamoù Rasta Fané, Massimo Artiglia, and Penna converge, together with the guitar of Masato Inoue. It represents an invitation to close your eyes to let yourself be carried away by imagination and dreams, breaking down every geographical border.
Signed four-handed by Penna and pianist Massimo Artiglia, "Un Altro Viaggio" moves into more introspective territories. Mario Petracca's guitars embroider textures with a strong emotional impact, evoking the idea of detachment, departure, or change, moving between atmospheric Jazz and Rock overtones.
Another sonic gem is signed by Umberto Mari, "Carla" is a highly refined and deeply melancholic ballad, in which Mario Petracca's guitar emerges once again. The dynamics are soft and measured, and Penna's drumming works finely on the cymbals and nuances to accommodate the intimate tone of the arrangement. The album closes with a track with the emblematic title "Nothing Will Ever Be The Same" ("Nulla sarà più lo stesso"). It is the conclusion of the child's journey who, after crossing different rhythms, worlds, and cultures, inevitably emerges changed and enriched. An open, intense ending guided by an instrumental progression that synthesizes the Jazz Fusion soul and the free spirit of the entire project.
In an era of fragmented and fast-food listening, "Histoire D’Un Enfant" is an album that requires a return to the old ritual of good listening: headphones on, booklet in hand (the graphic care of the physical project is remarkable) and away you go, from beginning to end, letting yourself be carried away by the flow of sonic images. A small jewel of Italian musical craftsmanship to be enjoyed. MS
