Interessante al giorno d’oggi incontrarsi con progetti non semplici da collocare stilisticamente, ciò sta a significare che hanno un qualcosa di strettamente personale da proporre.
I Rebellion Of Panda si muovono nel panorama dell'Alternative Rock indipendente, costruendo la propria identità sonora sull'equilibrio tra energia grezza ed eleganza melodica. Il loro approccio richiama le sonorità del Rock alternativo a cavallo tra il sound graffiante degli anni '90 e le produzioni Indie Rock più moderne. Abbracciano un linguaggio fatto di chitarre dinamiche, riff incisivi, melodie avvolgenti e ritmi trascinanti, ponendo la scrittura delle canzoni e l'espressività al centro di tutto.
La scelta di intitolare l'album “Jane Doe” (la denominazione usata per le identità non identificate o anonime) funge da filo conduttore concettuale per un viaggio dentro l'anonimato urbano, la ricerca della propria voce all'interno di una società omologata e la sensazione di essere senza nome di fronte ai propri dubbi e conflitti personali.
Formati da Beppe Martini (chitarra), David Lads Sánchez (tastiere), Piero Pellicano (basso), Simone Busatti Bei (batteria), Gennaro Scarpato (percussioni), Paolo Amadei (sax), e Andrea Manfrini (voce), si avvalgono della collaborazione di Arianna Vox alla voce nel singolo “In The Cage”. Nove i brani che compongono l’album a partire da “The B-Show”, quasi tre minuti che fanno da intro all’opera con tanto di narrazione su dei suoni distinti e alternativi, una sferzata ironica e amara sul sentirsi comparse della propria vita. Il "B-Show" è la sensazione di vivere in secondo piano, guardando gli altri stare al centro della scena mentre ci si adegua a ruoli di second'ordine.
Aperta da un canto femminile arabeggiante, “Sunrise” è una canzone notevole, in stile ballad/mid-tempo. Il pezzo parte su toni più intimi e misurati per poi aprirsi in un ritornello esplosivo e corale dal forte impatto emotivo. Sembra quasi in modalità Roger Waters. L'alba (Sunrise) è la resa dei conti con il giorno che arriva. Più che un nuovo inizio pieno di speranza, rappresenta la luce che mette a nudo le debolezze e le ipocrisie che di notte si riescono a nascondere. Davvero toccante!
“Digital Scream” con i suoi rumori di guerra è una parentesi elettronica strumentale breve che accompagna verso “Aviator”, uno dei movimenti più radiofonici ed efficaci del disco. Trova il perfetto equilibrio tra strofe dinamiche e un ritornello melodico, aperto ed aereo, sorretto da eccellenti linee di chitarra e un andamento che attinge dalla disco, dal Reggae e persino dal Pop. Qui la metafora del volo come desiderio di evasione. L'aviatore rappresenta chiunque cerchi di sollevarsi al di sopra dei problemi quotidiani, conscio del rischio di cadere ma spinto dal bisogno viscerale di libertà.
L’atmosfera più cupa e a tratti Heavy la si riscontra in “In The Cage” e nella bella voce (ed interpretazione) di Arianna Vox. Il brano si basa su un groove di basso ben marcato e chitarre distorte su tempi medi, creando un senso di tensione e claustrofobia sonora. Il testo parla della prigionia mentale, delle gabbie costruitoci attorno dalle aspettative altrui, dalla routine e dalle nostre stesse insicurezze. Il tutto esprime il senso di soffocamento di chi non trova uscite. Fra i momenti che ho maggiormente apprezzato, anche per varietà sono i sei minuti abbondanti di “So Cold”, che si sviluppano con calma, stratificando arpeggi malinconici fino a sfociare in assoli ed esplosioni sonore dal grande respiro Alternative Rock ma anche dal profumo vintage. E’ un viaggio dentro il distacco emotivo e la solitudine. Il "freddo" è quella sensazione di intorpidimento interiore che subentra quando ci si protegge dal dolore smettendo di provare emozioni. Il discorso è analogo per “Revolution”, altra chicca dell’album con momenti introspettivi, sezioni corali e riff granitici. Più che una sommossa di piazza, il testo parla di una rivoluzione personale. È il punto di svolta del disco in cui ci si ribella allo stato di anonimato ("Jane Doe") per riprendere in mano la propria identità. Ritorna la quiete con gli arpeggi di chitarra e interventi di piano in “I”, incentrato sull'affermazione del sé (la "I" inglese, ovvero "Io"). Il testo affronta il difficile processo di spogliarsi delle maschere sociali per capire chi si è veramente sotto la superficie.
Infine “Sunrise Reprise”, con il suo bel solo di sax, non offre facili risposte, ma suggerisce che, dopo aver attraversato la tempesta, si è finalmente pronti a guardare il domani con occhi diversi. Personalmente non gradisco molto il suono della batteria, ma è questione di gusto personale.
Con “Jane Doe”, i Rebellion Of Panda firmano un lavoro maturo e dinamico, in cui la ricerca melodica non sacrifica mai l'impatto e la tensione dei riff. Un ascolto consigliato a chiunque sia alla ricerca di un Rock viscerale, moderno e mai scontato. MS

It is interesting nowadays to come across projects that are not easy to place stylistically, which means they have something strictly personal to offer.
Rebellion Of Panda move within the independent Alternative Rock scene, building their sound identity on the balance between raw energy and melodic elegance. Their approach recalls alternative Rock sonorità straddling the gritty sound of the '90s and more modern Indie Rock productions. They embrace a language made of dynamic guitars, incisive riffs, enveloping melodies, and driving rhythms, placing songwriting and expressiveness right at the center of everything.
The choice to title the album “Jane Doe” (the name used for unidentified or anonymous identities) serves as a conceptual thread for a journey into urban anonymity, the search for one's voice within a homogenized society, and the feeling of being nameless when facing personal doubts and conflicts.

Nine tracks make up the album, starting with “The B-Show”, nearly three minutes that act as an intro to the work complete with narration over distinct, alternative sounds, an ironic and bitter lash at feeling like an extra in one's own life. The "B-Show" is the feeling of living in the background, watching others take center stage while adapting to second-rate roles.
Opened by an Arabian-flavored female chant, “Sunrise” is a remarkable song, in a ballad/mid-tempo style. The track begins on more intimate and measured tones before opening into an explosive, choral chorus with a strong emotional impact. It almost feels in Roger Waters mode. The sunrise (Sunrise) is the reckoning with the arriving day. Rather than a hopeful new beginning, it represents the light that lays bare the weaknesses and hypocrisies that can be hidden at night. Truly touching!
“Digital Scream” with its war noises is a brief instrumental electronic interlude that leads into “Aviator”, one of the most radio-friendly and effective movements of the record. It finds the perfect balance between dynamic verses and an open, airy, melodic chorus, supported by excellent guitar lines and a groove drawing from disco, Reggae, and even Pop. Here lies the metaphor of flight as a desire for escape. The aviator represents anyone trying to rise above everyday problems, aware of the risk of falling but driven by a visceral need for freedom.
The darker and at times Heavy atmosphere is found in “In The Cage” and in the beautiful voice (and interpretation) of Arianna Vox. The track relies on a well-defined bass groove and distorted guitars over mid-tempos, creating a sense of tension and sonic claustrophobia. The lyrics speak of mental imprisonment, of the cages built around us by others' expectations, routine, and our own insecurities. It all expresses the sense of suffocation of someone who finds no way out. Among the moments I appreciated the most, also for variety, are the generous six minutes of “So Cold”, which develop calmly, layering melancholy arpeggios until bursting into solos and sonic explosions with a great Alternative Rock breath, but also with a vintage scent. It is a journey into emotional detachment and solitude. The "cold" is that feeling of inner numbness that sets in when one protects oneself from pain by ceasing to feel emotions. The reasoning is similar for “Revolution”, another gem of the album with introspective moments, choral sections, and granite-like riffs. Rather than a street riot, the lyrics speak of a personal revolution. It is the turning point of the record where one rebels against the state of anonymity ("Jane Doe") to take back one's identity.
Quiet returns with the guitar arpeggios and piano interventions in “I”, centered on the affirmation of the self (the English "I"). The lyrics address the difficult process of stripping away social masks to understand who one really is beneath the surface.
Finally, “Sunrise Reprise”, with its nice sax solo, offers no easy answers, but suggests that after crossing the storm, one is finally ready to look at tomorrow with different eyes. Personally, I don't particularly care for the drum sound, but that's a matter of personal taste.
With “Jane Doe”, Rebellion Of Panda deliver a mature and dynamic work, where melodic research never sacrifices the impact and tension of the riffs. Recommended listening for anyone looking for visceral, modern, and never predictable Rock. MS
