Beppe Cunico è un chitarrista, compositore e polistrumentista italiano attivo da anni nell'ambito del Rock Progressivo, della musica strumentale d'autore e del Fusion Prog. Formatosi attraverso uno studio approfondito della chitarra elettrica ed acustica, Cunico ha sviluppato uno stile stilisticamente trasversale, influenzato dai grandi maestri della chitarra Prog ed eclettica come Allan Holdsworth, Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp e David Gilmour e dal grande bagaglio del Prog italiano storico e contemporaneo.
Oltre all'attività solista, Beppe Cunico ha prestato la sua chitarra e la sua sensibilità compositiva a svariati progetti del sottobosco Progressive ed Art Rock, ma anche con Nek, Subsonica e molti altri, distinguendosi per un approccio al suono mai banale con una predilezione per le architetture complesse, l'uso sapiente del contrappunto chitarristico, il fraseggio liquido e una ricerca continua del "caos ordinato" (concetto che trova la sua massima sintesi proprio nella titolazione di questo lavoro).
Dice l’autore nel suo sito ufficiale: “La musica è il linguaggio universale dell'anima, un caleidoscopio di emozioni che danza tra le note e risuona nel cuore di chi l'ascolta”, e la sua musica riflette a pieno questo concetto.
Il nuovo album “Flexible Chaos”, si sviluppa come un percorso concettuale diviso tra composizioni strumentali di pura ricerca timbrica e brani cantati in italiano e in inglese, creando un contrasto dinamico tra intimismo lirico e aperture virtuosiste. Il musicista vicentino racconta molto, anche il malessere adolescenziale e il baratro della depressione nelle dodici tracce che compongono l’album, ad iniziare dall’intro “Intrigue”, strumentale vigoroso e intenso.
In “The Dirt Under Your Feet” la chitarra viene spinta su suoni caldi e distorti, sfociando in assoli dal forte sapore Hard Fusion. La “terra sotto i piedi” è sia ciò che si calpesta con superbia, sia la realtà cruda da cui non si può fuggire.
“Noi Che Creiamo Arte” è un movimento variegato con voice phone annesso, Cunico non nasconde l’amore per la musica di Steven Wilson e dei Pink Floyd anche se il brano, pur mantenendo una scia di drammaticità, è molto vicino al mondo del cantautorato, quello più Rock. E’ la chitarra a spingere verso questi colossi della musica. “Universo Parallelo” è un viaggio interiore ed evasivo dove la musica apre a differenti soluzioni, anche ariose.
L’elettronica viene in aiuto all’inizio di “Al Di Là Dell’Oscurità”, altro robusto movimento Rock e orecchiabile nell’andamento.
Arriva anche la ballata con “Il Graffio Delle Corde”, non convenzionale nella composizione rispetto i lentoni che spesso si ascoltano negli album Rock, bene articolata e arrangiata. Qui si che i Porcupine Tree sono presenti!
Con “Essere” si ha un'indagine ontologica sulla natura dell'esistenza, e una presentazione della cultura musicale a disposizione dettata da numerose influenze messe in gioco, anche molto Hard.
“Waiting For Dawn” gode di un bellissimo assolo di chitarra per poi giungere a “Sealner” e al pianistico intro. Anche in questo caso, non esulano alti e bassi sonori con annessi cambi di tempo.
“A Smile On A Child Face” è una dedica all'innocenza e alla purezza dello sguardo infantile, capacità che l'adulto perde ma che la musica può momentaneamente rievocare. Fra le canzoni che ho più apprezzato c’è “Insane”, introspettiva e allo stesso momento florida. Chiudono i quasi dieci minuti della title track,  esplorazione Progressive strumentale e cantata, in cui convivono sezioni intricate alla Holdsworth/Gentle Giant, aperture sinfoniche e momenti di grande pathos chitarristico.
Tra il rigore delle metriche dispari e il respiro di melodie aperte al cielo, “Flexible Chaos” riesce nel suo intento più difficile, quello di dare una forma coerente al disordine dell'anima. Beppe Cunico graffia le corde ed esplora l'ombra e la luce con la sensibilità dei grandi narratori della chitarra. Quando l'ultima nota della title track si dissolve, resta la sensazione di aver compiuto un viaggio interiore necessario. E l'arte, in fondo, serve esattamente a questo. MS

Beppe Cunico is an Italian guitarist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who has been active for years in Progressive Rock, auteur instrumental music, and Fusion Prog. Formed through an in-depth study of both electric and acoustic guitar, Cunico has developed a stylistically cross-cutting approach, influenced by the great masters of Prog and eclectic guitar such as Allan Holdsworth, Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp, and David Gilmour, as well as the rich heritage of historical and contemporary Italian Prog.
In addition to his solo work, Beppe Cunico has lent his guitar and compositional sensitivity to various projects in the Progressive and Art Rock underground, as well as collaborating with Nek, Subsonica, and many others. He distinguishes himself through a sound concept that is never mundane, marked by a preference for complex architectures, a skillful use of guitar counterpoint, fluid phrasing, and a continuous search for "ordered chaos" (a concept that finds its ultimate expression in the title of this work).
As the author states on his official website: “Music is the universal language of the soul, a kaleidoscope of emotions that dances between notes and resonates in the heart of the listener”, and his music fully reflects this concept.
The new album “Flexible Chaos” unfolds as a conceptual journey split between instrumental compositions focused on pure timbral research and tracks sung in Italian and English, creating a dynamic contrast between lyrical intimacy and virtuoso openings. The musician from Vicenza shares a great deal, including teenage angst and the abyss of depression across the twelve tracks that make up the record, starting with the intro “Intrigue”, a vigorous and intense instrumental.
In “The Dirt Under Your Feet”, the guitar is pushed into warm, distorted tones, resulting in solos with a strong Hard Fusion flavor. The “dirt under your feet” is both what is stepped on with arrogance and the raw reality from which one cannot escape.
“Noi Che Creiamo Arte” is a varied movement accompanied by a voice note. Cunico makes no secret of his love for the music of Steven Wilson and Pink Floyd, even though the song, while maintaining a vein of drama, sits very close to the realm of rock-oriented singer-songwriter tradition. It is the guitar that drives the piece toward these giants of music. “Universo Parallelo” is an evasive, inner journey where the music opens up to different, even airy solutions.
Electronics come to the fore at the beginning of “Al Di Là Dell’Oscurità”, another robust Rock movement with a catchy tempo.
Then comes the ballad with “Il Graffio Delle Corde”, unconventional in its composition compared to the slow tracks often heard on Rock albums, well-articulated and arranged. Porcupine Tree's presence is definitely felt here!
With “Essere”, we find an ontological inquiry into the nature of existence, alongside a display of his musical culture driven by numerous influences at play, including very heavy ones.
“Waiting For Dawn” features a beautiful guitar solo before leading into “Sealner” and its piano-led intro. Here too, the track is not short of sonic shifts and time signature changes.
“A Smile On A Child Face” is a tribute to the innocence and purity of a child's gaze—a capacity that adults lose, but which music can temporarily evoke. Among my favorite tracks is “Insane”, introspective yet vibrant at the same time. Closing the album is the nearly ten-minute title track, a Progressive exploration both instrumental and vocal, where intricate Holdsworth/Gentle Giant-style sections coexist with symphonic openings and moments of great guitar pathos.
Between the rigor of odd meters and the breath of sky-bound melodies, “Flexible Chaos” achieves its most difficult objective: giving coherent form to the disorder of the soul. Beppe Cunico scratches the strings and explores shadow and light with the sensitivity of the great guitar storytellers. When the final note of the title track fades away, what remains is the feeling of having completed a necessary inner journey. And art, after all, is meant for exactly this. MS
