Essere personali in questi ultimi anni richiede uno sforzo notevole, sapendo che il mondo va avanti per mode in cui il “differente” ha poche chance. Venire a conoscenza di musicisti che mettono a nudo la propria anima senza pensare ad altro, fa ancora sperare che la creatività non è del tutto spenta.
E’ il caso di Andrea Laszlo De Simone e ascoltandolo, si può intuire il suo amore per gli anni passati e anche per la storia della musica in senso generale. Torinese, classe 1985, il cantautore rappresenta una figura eccentrica e pressoché unica nel panorama musicale italiano contemporaneo. Autodidatta, polistrumentista e artigiano del suono, parte dall'esperienza underground con i Nadàr Solo per poi intraprendere un percorso solista folgorante. Il suo stile si rifà alla grandiosità del Pop orchestrale e Psichedelico a cavallo tra i '60 e i '70 (Battisti/Mogol, Ennio Morricone, Alan Parsons, Beatles), rielaborato in una chiave fortemente autoriale e concettuale.
Dopo l'esordio “Uomo Donna” (2017) e la splendida suite “Immensità” (2019), che gli è valsa un enorme riconoscimento anche in Francia, De Simone si è progressivamente allontanato dalla dimensione live standard per dedicarsi a una ricerca intima nel suo studio, lavorando spesso sulla composizione e sincronizzazione di colonne sonore (come per “Le Règne Animal”).
“Una Lunghissima Ombra” rappresenta l'opera più organica e ambiziosa della sua produzione, strutturata come un doppio vinile da 17 tracce pensate per scorrere senza soluzione di continuità.
Il concept ruota attorno alla dualità tra luce e oscurità, dove l'ombra non è vissuta come presenza minacciosa, ma come forma di proiezione identitaria, il segno tangibile che attesta l'esistenza e la fragilità dell'essere umano di fronte al tempo. L'album è concepito con interludi strumentali (“Neon”, “Diffrazione”, “Spiragli”, “Rifrazione”) che collegano le varie sezioni, creando un'esperienza d'ascolto altamente immersiva.
“Il Buio / Ricordo Tattile / La Notte”  introducono le coordinate estetiche dell'album con archi imponenti, tastiere analogiche e cori stratificati. In “La Notte” affiora la riflessione esistenziale: “E ora sconvolto dal dolore / Abbandonato nella mia sventura / Se c'è qualcuno che non ha paura / Io prego mi soccorra... La notte cela i ladri e cela anche un fiore”. Qui l'oscurità diventa un luogo d'asilo dove paure e bellezza condividono lo stesso spazio invisibile. “Quando”, con la sua durata fluviale di quasi 8 minuti, dilata le strutture Pop avvicinandosi alla suite Prog orchestrale di matrice anni ‘70. Un tuffo nel passato, quello che ti fa volare e pensare.
Il cuore lirico del disco è “Aspetterò” e tratta il tema dell'attesa come condizione esistenziale, mentre “Per Te” è una dedica intima e commovente alla paternità. In “Un Momento Migliore”, il cantautore tocca il vertice della sua confessione umana:  “Forse ho mentito sempre o forse son troppo sincero / È da una fragile mente, o sono solo immaturo / O, più probabilmente, non voglio pensare al futuro / Perché sono quasi sicuro che sbaglierò per sempre”.
Altro punto di forza dell’album sono gli arrangiamenti, precisi e incastonati perfettamente nel contesto generale. Nella parte finale dell’album, la tensione orchestrale scioglie i nodi lirici. La title-track conclusiva sigilla l'opera riassumendo la presa di coscienza, trattando l'invecchiamento e il mutare delle cose che non sono sconfitte. Dal punto di vista dell'Art Rock, “Una Lunghissima Ombra” dimostra come si possa fare musica concettuale e arrangiamenti colti senza perdere la grazia melodica della tradizione italiana, ponendo De Simone tra i pochi capaci di raccogliere l'eredità dei grandi maestri degli anni '70 per declinarla nel contemporaneo. Being personal in recent years requires a remarkable effort, knowing that the world moves forward through trends where the “different” has few chances. Coming to know musicians who lay their souls bare without thinking of anything else still gives hope that creativity is not entirely dead.
This is the case with Andrea Laszlo De Simone, and listening to him, one can sense his love for past decades and for music history in a general sense. Born in Turin in 1985, the singer-songwriter represents an eccentric and almost unique figure in the contemporary Italian music scene. Self-taught, a multi-instrumentalist, and a sound craftsman, he started from the underground experience with Nadàr Solo to then undertake a dazzling solo career. His style draws on the grandeur of orchestral and psychedelic Pop at the turn of the '60s and '70s (Battisti/Mogol, Ennio Morricone, Alan Parsons, Beatles), reworked in a strongly autorial and conceptual key.
After his debut “Uomo Donna” (2017) and the splendid suite “Immensità” (2019), which earned him huge recognition in France as well, De Simone gradually moved away from the standard live dimension to devote himself to an intimate research in his studio, often working on the composition and synchronization of soundtracks (such as for “Le Règne Animal”).
“Una Lunghissima Ombra” represents the most organic and ambitious work of his output, structured as a double vinyl featuring 17 tracks designed to flow seamlessly.
The concept revolves around the duality between light and darkness, where the shadow is not experienced as a threatening presence, but as a form of identity projection—the tangible sign that attests to the existence and fragility of human beings in the face of time. The album is conceived with instrumental interludes (“Neon”, “Diffrazione”, “Spiragli”, “Rifrazione”) connecting the various sections, creating a highly immersive listening experience.
“Il Buio / Ricordo Tattile / La Notte” introduce the aesthetic coordinates of the album with imposing strings, vintage analog keyboards, and layered choirs. In “La Notte” an existential reflection emerges: “And now distraught with pain / Abandoned in my misfortune / If there is someone who is not afraid / I pray they help me... The night hides thieves and hides a flower as well”. Here, darkness becomes a place of refuge where fears and beauty share the same invisible space. “Quando”, with its river-like duration of almost 8 minutes, expands Pop structures, approaching a '70s-style orchestral Prog suite. A plunge into the past—the kind that makes you fly and think.
The lyrical heart of the record is “Aspetterò”, dealing with the theme of waiting as an existential condition, while “Per Te” is an intimate and moving dedication to fatherhood. In “Un Momento Migliore”, the singer-songwriter reaches the peak of his human confession: “Maybe I’ve always lied or maybe I’m too honest / It’s from a fragile mind, or I’m just immature / Or, more likely, I don’t want to think about the future / Because I’m almost certain I’ll be wrong forever”.
Another strong point of the album is the arrangements: precise and fitted perfectly into the general context. In the final part of the album, the orchestral tension untangles the lyrical knots. The closing title-track seals the work by summarizing this newfound awareness, treating aging and the changing of things not as defeats. From an Art Rock perspective, “Una Lunghissima Ombra” proves how conceptual music and cultured arrangements can be made without losing the melodic grace of the Italian tradition, placing De Simone among the few capable of taking up the legacy of the great master musicians of the '70s to translate it into the contemporary age.
