A Roma c’è una cellula impazzita che suona come un caterpillar il buon sano e vecchio Krautrock, e non nascondo il mio piacere nello scoprire che ancora oggi c’è chi s’incammina per questi sentieri.
Due album in meno di un anno, questo è il cammino dei giovanissimi Andrea Gonnellini (basso, sax), Martino Petrella (chitarra, vibrafono, balalaika), Pietro Rianna (pad elettronici), Flavio Gonnellini (Farfisa), Giacomo O’Neil (batteria), Eugenio Petrarca (ciaramella, conga, Moog Subharmonicon)  ed Emilia Wesolowska (voce). Nel 2025 fanno esordio con “Orgia Mistero” e subito attirano l’attenzione dei fans del genere infarcito di Psichedelia.
Il nome Neoprimitivi, suggerisce un chiaro contrasto filosofico e sonoro. C'è il richiamo a un ritorno alle origini, a un'energia primordiale, istintiva e priva di sovrastrutture (il primitivismo), che però viene filtrata attraverso la modernità e la consapevolezza del presente (il neo). Musicalmente, questo spesso si traduce in un sound viscerale, oscuro e d'impatto, che rifiuta la finta perfezione digitale a favore dell'urgenza espressiva.
“Il Sangue E’ Pronto” ha una forte valenza teatrale, quasi ritualistica o di stampo noir/distopico. Il sangue evoca la carne, il sacrificio, la passione o una ferita aperta, mentre l'essere pronto suggerisce l'imminenza di un evento catartico, di una rottura o di una narrazione cruda, che ben si sposa con certe tradizioni della scuola Rock e d'avanguardia più ombrosa del nostro Paese, almeno questo mi fa pensare.
Siamo al cospetto di un brano unico di trentotto minuti e mezzo suddiviso in capitoli: “L’Atto Di Uccidere”, “L’Estasi Del Corpo”, “La Nostra Fragile Ieraticità”, Il Sangue E’ Pronto”, “L’Estasi Dello Spirito”, e “Dove Finisce L’uomo E Quando Inizia Il Suo Padrone?”.
Qui abbiamo molta carne al fuoco ovviamente, proprio come in un brano Progressive Rock, la band in questo caso tocca sonorità che spaziano dalla Psichedelia, passando per il Jazz e molto altro, il tutto infarcito di oscurità, infatti l’idea nasce dalla visualizzazione e sonorizzazione live del film “Riti, Magie Nere E Segrete Orge Nel Trecento”, un sexy horror degli anni ‘70 di Renato Polselli.
La vastità delle strumentazioni, consentono al combo di spaziare a proprio piacimento nel pentagramma. Inizio oscuro… Pulsante… Narrato e in crescendo sino a cadere nel caos. Nella seconda metà si raggiunge il Jazz, seppure ipnotico. Il sax dona al tutto quel sentore di anni ’70, quando sigle televisive di gialli lasciavano all’ascoltatore una buona dose di suspense. A seguire cambi di ritmo e una sequenza di sorprese che lascio a voi scoprire.
Che bello vedere giovani ragazzi che sperimentano, ricercano e elaborano la storia con la propria personalità, il fatto mi fa sperare che in fondo al tunnel c’è luce! Andiamo così. MS

In Rome, there is a wild cell playing good old-fashioned Krautrock like a steamroller, and I make no secret of my delight in discovering that there are still people treading these paths today.
Two albums in less than a year—this is the journey of the very young Andrea Gonnellini (bass, sax), Martino Petrella (guitar, vibraphone, balalaika), Pietro Rianna (electronic pads), Flavio Gonnellini (Farfisa), Giacomo O’Neil (drums), Eugenio Petrarca (ciaramella, conga, Moog Subharmonicon), and Emilia Wesolowska (vocals). They made their debut in 2025 with "Orgia Mistero," immediately catching the attention of fans of the genre heavily laced with Psych.
The name Neoprimitivi suggests a clear philosophical and sonic contrast. There is a nod to a return to origins, to a primordial, instinctive energy stripped of superstructures (primitivism), which is nevertheless filtered through modernity and a contemporary awareness (neo). Musically, this often translates into a visceral, dark, and impactful sound that rejects fake digital perfection in favor of expressive urgency.
"Il Sangue E’ Pronto" (The Blood is Ready) has a strong theatrical quality, almost ritualistic or noir/dystopian in nature. Blood evokes the flesh, sacrifice, passion, or an open wound, while being "ready" suggests the imminence of a cathartic event, a rupture, or a raw narrative. This blends beautifully with certain traditions of the darker side of Italian rock and avant-garde—at least, that is what it makes me think.
We are in the presence of a single thirty-eight-and-a-half-minute track divided into chapters: "L’Atto Di Uccidere" (The Act of Killing), "L’Estasi Del Corpo" (The Ecstasy of the Body), "La Nostra Fragile Ieraticità" (Our Fragile Hieraticism), "Il Sangue E’ Pronto" (The Blood is Ready), "L’Estasi Dello Spirito" (The Ecstasy of the Spirit), and "Dove Finisce L’uomo E Quando Inizia Il Suo Padrone?" (Where Does Man End and When Does His Master Begin?).
Naturally, there is a lot of meat on the fire here; much like a Progressive Rock track, the band touches upon sounds ranging from Psychedelia to Jazz and much more, all steeped in darkness. In fact, the project was born from the live visual mapping and soundtracking of the film "Riti, Magie Nere E Segrete Orge Nel Trecento" (The Reincarnation of Isabel), a 1970s sexy-horror movie directed by Renato Polselli.
The vast array of instrumentation allows the combo to roam across the musical staff at will. It opens dark... Pulsing... Narrated, building up to a crescendo before collapsing into chaos. In the second half, it reaches Jazz territory, albeit of a hypnotic variety. The sax gives the whole piece that 1970s vibe, reminiscent of TV thriller theme songs that left the listener with a healthy dose of suspense. This is followed by rhythm changes and a sequence of surprises that I will leave for you to discover.
How beautiful it is to see young kids experimenting, researching, and reshaping history with their own personality. It gives me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel! Keep it up. MS
