I più ferrati di voi in ambito Progressive Rock italiano, conoscerà il nome di Alcantara. Sono un collettivo catanese fondato da Francesco Venti (chitarre) e Sergio Manfredi Sallicano (voce e testi). Si muovono in quel territorio affascinante in cui il New Prog contemporaneo e il Progressive Rock incontrano la Psichedelia d'atmosfera, il Post Rock spaziale e sfumature di Blues crepuscolare. I loro punti di riferimento dichiarati e percepibili guardano molto a giganti come i Pink Floyd, ma anche a realtà moderne del prog atmosferico e malinconico come Riverside, Porcupine Tree, Airbag e RPWL.
"In Concert" è un documento live importante per loro, catturato su CD e digitale a un anno esatto dal loro acclamato secondo lavoro in studio, "Tamam Shud" uscito a giugno 2025. l fulcro risiede nella riproposizione integrale e dal vivo del concept di “Tamam Shud”, espressione persiana che significa "è finito/consumato", legata all'omonimo e celebre caso di cronaca, ma qui intesa come viaggio di transizione e vertigine cosmica. Invece di limitarsi a replicare lo studio album, la band sul palco dilata i pezzi, lasciando respirare le chitarre liquide spesso usate con lo slide e i tappeti ipnotici di tastiere. Le atmosfere sono cinematiche, notturne e sospese, con il canto di Sergio Manfredi che si muove con grande naturalezza tra l'italiano e l'inglese, alternando registri intimi a momenti più epici e teatrali.
La formazione che ha registrato questo live vede un bell'intreccio di chitarre e trame tastieristiche: Sergio Manfredi (voce), Francesco Venti (chitarre), Salvo Di Mauro (chitarre), Vittorio Di Stefano (chitarre), Alessandro Caltabiano (tastiere), Danilo Montagnino (basso), e Rosario Figura (batteria).
“Terry G” è l'apertura ipnotica e floydiana che introduce il mood del concerto. La voce di Sergio Manfredi Sallicano si muove con uno spleen che ricorda l'approccio declamatorio e profondo di Jim Morrison, sorretta da una chitarra post-rock che morde nei momenti giusti.
Il concerto entra nel vivo attraverso “Il Distacco”, uno dei vertici emotivi del set. La chitarra si fa languida, sognante, con note pulite e riverberate che fluttuano sui tappeti di tastiere di Alessandro Caltabiano. È un pezzo che vive di dinamiche magistrali, partendo piano si insinua sotto pelle e cresce gradualmente in un crescendo drammatico ed emozionante.
Più compatta e decisamente cosmica è “Distant Star”, canzone che rispetto alla versione in studio, dal vivo vede la sezione ritmica creare un groove più serrato e ipnotico, una base perfetta su cui le tre chitarre della band possono tessere trame liquide e dilatate. Il cantato in questo caso è in lingua inglese. La title-track si concentra sulla sua essenza live attraverso un inizio quasi recitato con tastiere che richiamano le atmosfere di “Interstellar”, simulando conversazioni di piloti sperduti nello spazio e un profondo silenzio cosmico. La chitarra qui esplode in un assolo viscerale, un Blues spaziale dove si sentono forti le influenze di David Gilmour e sfumature alla Chris Rea.
Suggestiva “Sail”. Sul palco la band evoca atmosfere psichedeliche che guardano alla fine degli anni '60, arricchite da un retrogusto Folk e acustico. Il pezzo evolve in un gioco a due lingue (italiano e inglese) supportato da un groove bluesy avvolgente e dipendenze melodiche che ricordano il moderno Prog scandinavo in stile Meer.
“Wodwo/Vertigo” chiude la prima parte del live con una potenza teatrale davvero importante.
L'intro Post Rock strizza l'occhio ai Sigur Rós, per poi passare a un cantato quasi narrato su chitarra acustica e una slide guitar tagliente. C'è un'oscurità di fondo che ricorda i Lunatic Soul di Mariusz Duda.
La seconda parte ripercorre le radici della band con brani come “Treefingers”, “Logan”, “After The Flood”, e “Season”, quest’ultima è una suite sontuosa che riassume perfettamente la filosofia degli Alcàntara,  la capacità di saper aspettare, di costruire un climax sonoro un mattone alla volta senza fretta. I synth analogici si fondono con assoli di chitarra strappalacrime per un congedo cosmico che lascia l'ascoltatore sospeso nel vuoto.
“In Concert” quindi non è una semplice esecuzione live, ma un rituale crepuscolare che cattura e dilata il silenzio cosmico, trasformandolo in pura emozione progressiva. Un documento live prezioso e impeccabile, che certifica la capacità degli Alcàntara di raccogliere l'eredità floydiana per traghettarla verso i territori d'avanguardia di Porcupine Tree e Airbag. Those of you well-versed in Italian Progressive Rock will likely know the name Alcantara. They are a collective from Catania founded by Francesco Venti (guitars) and Sergio Manfredi Sallicano (vocals and lyrics). They navigate that fascinating territory where contemporary New Prog and Progressive Rock meet atmospheric psychedelia, spacey post-rock, and shades of twilight blues. Their declared and noticeable influences look closely to giants like Pink Floyd, but also to modern figures of atmospheric and melancholic prog such as Riverside, Porcupine Tree, Airbag, and RPWL.
“In Concert” is a significant live document for them, captured on CD and digital formats exactly one year after their acclaimed second studio album, “Tamam Shud”, which was released in June 2025. The core of the album lies in the full, live performance of the “Tamam Shud” concept—a Persian phrase meaning "ended" or "finished," linked to the famous true-crime case of the same name, but interpreted here as a journey of transition and cosmic vertigo. Rather than merely replicating the studio album, the band dilates the tracks on stage, letting the liquid, often slide-driven guitars and hypnotic keyboard layers breathe. The atmospheres are cinematic, nocturnal, and suspended, with Sergio Manfredi’s vocals moving naturally between Italian and English, alternating between intimate tones and more epic, theatrical moments.

 “Terry G” is the hypnotic, Floydian opening track that sets the mood for the concert. Sergio Manfredi Sallicano’s vocals carry a spleen reminiscent of Jim Morrison’s deep, declamatory approach, backed by a post-rock guitar that bites exactly when needed.
The concert truly gets underway with “Il Distacco”, one of the emotional peaks of the set. The guitar becomes languid and dreamy, with clean, reverberated notes floating over Alessandro Caltabiano's keyboard layers. It is a track that thrives on masterful dynamics, starting softly to get under your skin before steadily building into a dramatic and thrilling crescendo.
More compact and decidedly cosmic is “Distant Star”. Compared to the studio version, the live rhythm section creates a tighter, more hypnotic groove—a perfect foundation for the band's three guitars to weave liquid, expanded textures. The vocals here are in English.
The title track focuses on its live essence with an almost spoken-word intro, featuring keyboards that recall the atmosphere of “Interstellar”, simulating conversations between pilots lost in space amid a deep cosmic silence. Here, the guitar explodes into a visceral solo, a space-blues where David Gilmour's influence and shades of Chris Rea are strongly felt.
“Sail” is deeply atmospheric. On stage, the band evokes late-60s psychedelic vibes, enriched by a folk and acoustic aftertaste. The track evolves into a bilingual interplay (Italian and English), supported by an enveloping bluesy groove and melodic structures reminiscent of modern Scandinavian progressive rock in the style of Meer.
“Wodwo/Vertigo” closes the first half of the live set with a truly striking theatrical power. The post-rock intro nods to Sigur Rós, before transitioning into a spoken-style vocal over acoustic guitar and a sharp slide guitar. There is an underlying darkness that recalls Mariusz Duda’s Lunatic Soul.
The second part retraces the band's roots with tracks like “Treefingers”, “Logan”, “After The Flood”, and “Season”. The latter is a sumptuous suite that perfectly encapsulates Alcantara's philosophy: the ability to wait, building a sonic climax brick by brick without rushing. Analog synths merge with tear-jerking guitar solos for a cosmic farewell that leaves the listener suspended in the void.
Therefore, “In Concert” is no mere live performance, but a twilight ritual that captures and expands cosmic silence, transforming it into pure progressive emotion. A valuable and flawless live document, certifying Alcantara's ability to inherit the Floydian legacy and steer it toward the avant-garde territories of Porcupine Tree and Airbag. Simply mesmerizing.
