Quando ascolto ancora oggi dischi come “Sesta Strada Lungo Il Tempo”, capisco che il mio amore per il Rock Progressivo non potrà mai sopirsi. Se poi a realizzarlo è una band storica come i Delirium, allora il piacere mi si amplifica, e lo dico perché denoto una staffetta con il passato che fa intendere l'immortalità del genere. Infatti il logo cambia in Delirium I.P.G. (International Progressive Group) con l’innesto di nuove leve, sempre molto famose nel circuito, come Fabio Chighini (basso, voce), Alessandro Corvaglia (voce, tastiere, chitarra, cori), Michele Cusato (chitarra, cori) e Enrico Tixi (batteria, percussioni, cori). Con loro gli storici Ettore Vigo (tastiere, voce) e Martin Grice (fiati, cori), oltre che una nutrita serie di special guest che risponde ai nomi di Andrea Bottesini (voce narrante), Giulia Ermirio (viola), Alice Vigo (voce), Enrico Bianchi (cori), Raffaella Izzo (cori) e la The "Banda Deliranti Cantù" (Maurizio, Nello, Ludovico, Catia, Grazia, Silvana, Annunziata).
A livello concettuale e sonoro il disco si sviluppa come un vero e proprio concept album narrativo incentrato sullo scorrere inesorabile del tempo. La band sceglie di esplorare questa tematica focalizzando l'obiettivo su storie e figure ai margini della società, una scelta lirica profonda che dipinge quadri urbani e umani di grande impatto emotivo.
Il lavoro custodisce ed evolve il DNA storico della band. Non mancano i marchi di fabbrica che hanno reso celebri i Delirium fin dagli anni Settanta, come l'uso sapiente del flauto e arrangiamenti arricchiti da orchestrazioni e aperture sinfoniche, che creano un perfetto ponte tra il glorioso passato del Prog italiano e una produzione moderna.
Il concept non può avere migliore inizio se non con una suite di ventidue minuti, atta a eliminare ogni dubbio sull’appartenenza della band a un contesto storico intramontabile. È un susseguirsi di movimenti fluidi, parti sinfoniche, improvvise accelerazioni guidate dal flauto e aperture barocche di tastiere. Liricamente, è un viaggio profondo e drammatico all'interno delle debolezze umane e della codardia (la viltà, appunto), affrontato con un'intensità quasi teatrale. Solo questo vale il prezzo dell’album. Non si tratta di una musica debitrice a band straniere, bensì vive di una personalità tipicamente italiana, ossia mediterraneità e attenzione alle gradevoli melodie. Sempre fondamentale l’apporto del flauto di Grice.
Con “Io Clochard” si entra nel vivo della tematica legata agli ultimi e ai margini della società che accennavo prima. Il brano adotta una prospettiva in prima persona, dando voce a chi vive sulla strada. Musicalmente l'approccio si fa più intimo e toccante, ma non privo di quella tensione drammatica urbana che caratterizza il sound attuale della band, dove la melodia del flauto dialoga con arrangiamenti più cupi e realistici.
“Il Riposo Del Pirata” sposta l'immaginario verso l'avventura, la libertà e, forse, la fine di un lungo viaggio. La voce di Corvaglia si avvicina sempre più a quella di Bernardo Lanzetti e le reminiscenze PFM periodo “Paspartù” sono inevitabili.
“Del Ritorno La Strada” sembra ricollegarsi concettualmente sia a "Io Clochard" che al titolo stesso dell'album. La strada torna a essere protagonista, questa volta con l'idea del ritorno, del bilancio o del percorso a ritroso nel tempo. Il sound è molto compatto, con la sezione ritmica in grande evidenza a sorreggere ricchi intrecci chitarristici, tastieristici e di fiati. Una piccola capatina nel Jazz Prog.
Il brano che chiude l’opera s’intitola “Parole Nel Vento” ed è un altro movimento che lascia spazio alla formula canzone tipica, adatta per addentrarsi nel mondo Delirium.
Una menzione a parte per la bellissima cover di Alessandro Pozzi.
Per chi vi scrive, ad ora “Sesta Strada Lungo il Tempo” è il disco di Prog Italiano dell’anno, sarà dura detronizzarlo dalla mia mente. MS

When I still listen today to albums like “Sesta Strada Lungo Il Tempo”, I realize that my love for Progressive Rock can never fade. If, on top of that, it is created by a historic band like Delirium, then my pleasure is amplified, and I say this because I perceive a passing of the torch from the past that implies the immortality of the genre. In fact, the logo changes to Delirium I.P.G. (International Progressive Group) with the addition of new blood, always very well-known in the circuit, such as Fabio Chighini (bass, vocals), Alessandro Corvaglia (vocals, keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), Michele Cusato (guitar, backing vocals), and Enrico Tixi (drums, percussion, backing vocals). Joining them are veteran members Ettore Vigo (keyboards, vocals) and Martin Grice (woodwinds, backing vocals), as well as a large line-up of special guests including Andrea Bottesini (narrator), Giulia Ermirio (viola), Alice Vigo (vocals), Enrico Bianchi (backing vocals), Raffaella Izzo (backing vocals), and The "Banda Deliranti Cantù" (Maurizio, Nello, Ludovico, Catia, Grazia, Silvana, Annunziata).
Conceptually and sonically, the album unfolds as a true narrative concept album centered on the inexorable passing of time. The band chooses to explore this theme by focusing its lens on stories and figures on the fringes of society, a profound lyrical choice that paints urban and human pictures of great emotional impact.
This work preserves and evolves the band's historical DNA. There is no shortage of the trademarks that made Delirium famous since the 1970s, such as the skillful use of the flute and arrangements enriched by orchestrations and symphonic openings, creating a perfect bridge between the glorious past of Italian Prog and a modern production.
The concept could not have a better start than with a twenty-two-minute suite (“Schiavo Della Viltà”), designed to eliminate any doubt about the band's belonging to an everlasting historical context. It is a succession of fluid movements, symphonic parts, sudden flute-driven accelerations, and baroque keyboard openings. Lyrically, it is a deep and dramatic journey into human weakness and cowardice (viltà, indeed), approached with an almost theatrical intensity. This track alone is worth the price of the album. This is not music indebted to foreign bands; rather, it thrives on a typically Italian personality, namely Mediterranean flavor and attention to pleasant melodies. The contribution of Grice's flute remains essential throughout.
With “Io Clochard”, we enter the heart of the theme related to the underprivileged and those on the fringes of society that I mentioned earlier. The track adopts a first-person perspective, giving a voice to those who live on the street. Musically, the approach becomes more intimate and touching, yet not devoid of that urban dramatic tension that characterizes the band's current sound, where the melody of the flute dialogues with darker, more realistic arrangements.
“Il Riposo Del Pirata” shifts the imagery towards adventure, freedom, and perhaps the end of a long journey. Corvaglia's vocals draw closer and closer to those of Bernardo Lanzetti, and reminiscences of PFM during the “Paspartù” era are inevitable.
“Del Ritorno La Strada” seems conceptually linked to both "Io Clochard" and the album title itself. The street returns as the protagonist, this time with the idea of return, of taking stock, or of a journey backward through time. The sound is very compact, with the rhythm section in high evidence supporting rich guitar, keyboard, and woodwind textures. A short foray into Jazz Prog.
The track that closes the work is titled “Parole Nel Vento” and is another movement that leaves room for the typical song formula, well-suited for delving into the world of Delirium.
A special mention goes to the beautiful cover artwork by Alessandro Pozzi.
For this writer, as of now, “Sesta Strada Lungo il Tempo” is the Italian Prog album of the year; it will be hard to dethrone it from my mind. MS
