In questo album si va incontro a tantissima storia del Progressive Rock italiano: “Pangea E Le Tre Lune” racchiude tutto ciò che il genere negli anni ’70 ci ha donato attraverso band come Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Le Orme e Premiata Forneria Marconi.
Il Cerchio D’Oro è nato nella stagione d'oro degli anni '70 (scusate il gioco di parole), per poi scomparire dai radar discografici per oltre un trentennio e rinascere nel nuovo millennio con una maturità artistica sorprendente. La formazione oggi vede Piuccio Pradal (voce, chitarra), Giuseppe Terribile (basso, voce), Gino Terribile (batteria, voce), Massimo Spica (chitarra, cori) e Franco Piccolini (tastiere). In quest’album si avvalgono della collaborazione di nomi noti del panorama come Ricky Belloni (chitarra), Donald Lax (violino) e Tolo Marton (chitarra).
La storia del gruppo inizia a Savona nel 1974. Tra il 1977 e il 1980 la band pubblica tre singoli a 45 giri: “Quattro Mura / Futuro Prossimo” (Playphone – 1977), “Funky Dream / L'Amore Mio” (Golden – 1978) e “Too Many Nights / Dolce Strega” (Golden – 1979), orientandosi verso sonorità più melodiche e Pop, in linea con le esigenze di mercato della fine del decennio. Senza mai essere arrivato alla pubblicazione di un album sulla lunga distanza, il gruppo si scioglie all'inizio degli anni '80.
La svolta avviene nel 2005 con l’uscita di “La Quadratura Del Cerchio”, che riaccende attorno a loro l’interesse del pubblico progressivo. La Black Widow Records li accoglie così fra le proprie file e nel 2008 la band pubblica “Il Viaggio Di Colombo”, vero e proprio comeback del gruppo. Seguono “Dedalo E Icaro” (2013) e “Il Fuoco Sotto La Cenere” (2017).
“Pangea E Le Tre Lune” è un concept album ambizioso che intreccia geologia, mitologia e speculazione filosofico-fantascientifica. L'opera immagina un'epoca primordiale in cui la Terra, ancora un unico supercontinente (la Pangea), era orbitata non da uno, ma da tre satelliti naturali. Attraverso il loro influsso e la loro successiva distruzione o caduta, si generano i cataclismi che modellano il pianeta e permettono l'inizio della vita.
L'apertura è affidata a “Pangea”, con i tappeti di tastiere vintage (Mellotron e Hammond) che evocano la solennità di uno spazio ancora disabitato. Il brano sviluppa un tema sinfonico in classico stile RPI, con continui cambi di tempo, duelli tra chitarra elettrica e organo e un'atmosfera sospesa che richiama le grandi suite dei Genesis anni '70. Vengono descritti la vastità del supercontinente, la solitudine dell'oceano globale (la Panthalassa) e l'equilibrio primordiale regolato dalla presenza dei tre corpi celesti che illuminano la notte primitiva.
Sullo stesso binario si colloca “Alla Deriva”, sempre infarcito di cambi d'umore e di ritmo come il genere esige. Qui si narra la rottura dell'equilibrio: la massa continentale inizia a spaccarsi e le terre emergenti cominciano la loro deriva sugli oceani. I testi riflettono il senso di smarrimento, il mutamento inarrestabile e il caos primordiale davanti alle forze della natura.
Non esulano frangenti riflessivi (in stile Orme) come “Dialogo”, supportati da un uso elegante degli archi e del flauto sintetico.
La suite centrale è proprio “Le Tre Lune”, dove viene svelata la natura dei tre satelliti, ciascuno simbolo di una fase, di un elemento e di una forza della natura. Si prefigura la catastrofe cosmica: l'impatto o il disfacimento di due dei tre satelliti che cambierà per sempre il volto del pianeta. Qui si respira la storia completa del genere e tantissimi anni ’70 a bordo. Spiccano gli assoli intrecciati delle chitarre e le fughe di organo Hammond. La tensione drammatica cresce gradualmente fino a un climax sonoro imponente che rappresenta l'evento cosmico.
A seguire troviamo “Dal Nulla Così” e la conclusiva “E La Vita Iniziò”, dove il cataclisma non ha portato la morte definitiva, ma ha creato le condizioni chimiche e ambientali necessarie per la nascita biologica. Il testo celebra l'emergere della vita dalle acque e dalla terra rigenerata. C’è anche una bonus track dal titolo “Crisi”, un bell’Hard Prog ben congeniato con richiami e tributi ai Deep Purple!
Con “Pangea E Le Tre Lune”, Il Cerchio D'Oro trasforma la polvere del tempo e la memoria geologica in musica viva, vibrante e profondamente umana. Un ascolto piacevolissimo e consigliato per chi ha ancora fame di grande Rock Progressivo; in più… sanno davvero suonare, e oggi è quasi una sorpresa! MS

Il Cerchio D’Oro was born during the golden age of the '70s (pardon the pun), only to disappear from the recording radar for over three decades and be reborn in the new millennium with surprising artistic maturity. Today's lineup features Piuccio Pradal (vocals, guitar), Giuseppe Terribile (bass, vocals), Gino Terribile (drums, vocals), Massimo Spica (guitar, backing vocals), and Franco Piccolini (keyboards). On this album, they also feature guest appearances by well-known figures in the scene, such as Ricky Belloni (guitar), Donald Lax (violin), and Tolo Marton (guitar).
The band's story began in Savona in 1974. Between 1977 and 1980, they released three 7-inch singles: “Quattro Mura / Futuro Prossimo” (Playphone – 1977), “Funky Dream / L'Amore Mio” (Golden – 1978), and “Too Many Nights / Dolce Strega” (Golden – 1979), leaning toward more melodic and Pop sounds in line with the market demands of the late decade. Having never managed to release a full-length album, the group disbanded in the early '80s.

Black Widow Records welcomed them into their roster, and in 2008 the band released “Il Viaggio Di Colombo”, marking their official comeback. This was followed by “Dedalo E Icaro” (2013) and “Il Fuoco Sotto La Cenere” (2017).
“Pangea E Le Tre Lune” is an ambitious concept album that weaves together geology, mythology, and philosophical sci-fi speculation. The work imagines a primordial era in which the Earth, still a single supercontinent (Pangea), was orbited not by one, but by three natural satellites. Through their influence and subsequent destruction or crash, cataclysms were unleashed that shaped the planet and allowed life to begin.
The opening is entrusted to “Pangea”, featuring layers of vintage keyboards (Mellotron and Hammond) that evoke the solemnity of an uninhabited realm. The track develops a symphonic theme in classic RPI style, with frequent time signature shifts, duels between electric guitar and organ, and a suspended atmosphere reminiscent of the great Genesis suites of the 1970s. It describes the vastness of the supercontinent, the loneliness of the global ocean (Panthalassa), and the primordial balance governed by the three celestial bodies illuminating the primitive night.
Along the same lines is “Alla Deriva”, packed with the mood and tempo changes required by the genre. Here, the breaking of the balance is narrated: the continental mass begins to fracture and the emerging landmasses start drifting across the oceans. The lyrics reflect the sense of bewilderment, unstoppable change, and primordial chaos facing the forces of nature.
Reflective moments are not missing either (in the style of Le Orme), such as “Dialogo”, supported by an elegant use of strings and synthetic flute.
The central suite is “Le Tre Lune”, where the nature of the three satellites is revealed—each symbolizing a phase, an element, and a force of nature. The cosmic catastrophe is foreshadowed: the impact or breakup of two of the three satellites that will alter the face of the planet forever. Here, you can breathe the complete history of the genre, with pure '70s flair on board. The interwoven guitar solos and Hammond organ fugues stand out prominently. The dramatic tension grows gradually up to a massive sonic climax representing the cosmic event.
Following this are “Dal Nulla Così” and the closing track “E La Vita Iniziò”, where the cataclysm does not bring ultimate death, but rather creates the chemical and environmental conditions required for biological life to emerge. The text celebrates life rising from the waters and from the regenerated land. There is also a bonus track titled “Crisi”, a finely crafted piece of Hard Prog with clear nods and tributes to Deep Purple!
With “Pangea E Le Tre Lune”, Il Cerchio D'Oro turns the dust of time and geological memory into living, vibrant, and deeply human music. A truly enjoyable listen, highly recommended for anyone still hungry for great Progressive Rock; plus… they genuinely know how to play, which nowadays feels like a wonderful surprise! MS
