ALESSANDRO SERRI – Frammenti
Autoproduzione
Genere: Rock Progressivo / World Music
Supporto: Bandcamp – 2026

MS

ALESSANDRO SERRI – Frammenti
Self-Released
Genre: Progressive Rock / World Music
Format: Bandcamp – 2026

In a musician's artistic career, there are many phases where ideas overlap and often—sometimes due to placement needs—never see the light of day, remaining relegated to unreleased recordings. Such is the case with “Frammenti” (nomen omen) by Genoese guitarist, bassist, vocalist, flutist, and composer Alessandro Serri.
A historic figure in the Italian Progressive Rock and Folk Prog scene, Serri co-founded the band Eris Pluvia with Edmondo Romano in 1984. With this lineup, he released the landmark album “Rings Of Earthly Light” in 1991, widely considered a milestone of Italian Neo-Prog. In 1995, again alongside Edmondo Romano, he formed the project Ancient Veil, continuing a refined, acoustic musical exploration characterized by symphonic, singer-songwriter, and World Music influences. Over the years, he has collaborated on various other Prog and acoustic projects (including Narrow Pass and tribute releases dedicated to Genesis and John Wetton). Alongside his work with bands, he embarked on a solo career focused primarily on intimate, instrumental atmospheres and musical sketches. His solo debut dates back to 2020 with “Themes”, a project similar in concept to “Frammenti” and likewise released exclusively on Bandcamp.
The latter is a predominantly instrumental, miniaturist work. The title reflects the very nature of the tracklist: a collection of musical "sketches" or "fragments" in which acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, and synthesizers evoke Ambient, World/Ethnic, and pastoral imagery.
“Altioplani” immediately sets a relaxed and airy tone, with keyboards, bass, and woodwinds gently conversing in a space bridging Neo-Prog and World Music. Serri’s soul is laid bare early on, revealing his most intimate side.
A piano introduces “Athens”, a brief piece where electronics make their appearance in Serri’s soundscape. The melody is primarily driven by keyboards, playing over an easily memorable loop.
With “Beat 2410”, we drift into the world of the bands the author participates in, as well as vintage Prog reminiscent of Le Orme's instrumental tracks. Personal musical background surfaces in every fragment, testifying to a fully assimilated understanding of past and present Prog.
Exquisitely delicate is “Etereo”, an atmospheric piece where expanded synthetic pads serve as the guiding element. True to its title, the prevailing feeling is one of weightlessness and suspended time.
All tracks are brief because they are indeed “fragments”, yet they are more than enough to convey Serri’s technical and compositional quality. He immerses himself in another imaginative movement with “Far away”, where this time the melody is entrusted to the guitar. Among all the tracks, “Fiume Tranquillo” is one I particularly appreciated for its ability to capture environments and translate them into sounds that are never aggressive, but rather thoughtful—as if the artist were weighing every single note.
The short “Harmonic” shows potential, and who knows if it might be further developed in the future. It is an essential, almost experimental/acoustic track centered on the pure timbre of the guitar.
Another top-tier movement is “Hawk's Peak”, which once again brings Le Orme to mind; it is built around a genuinely pleasant melody that carries a timeless quality.
“Pad” is an electronic Ambient interlude built around synthesizer pads and room resonances, serving mainly as a bridge and tonal nuance.
Finally, “Quena”, named after the traditional Andean flute. The track draws inspiration from the rhythms and scales of Andean music and World Music, bringing the album to a close with a pastoral and ethnic touch.
In summary, “Frammenti” provides an excellent snapshot of Alessandro Serri’s compositional maturity. While far from the complex structures of his historic projects, this self-released work manages to condense the pure essence of his melodic sensibility into a few short minutes. A warm recommendation for all lovers of delicate keyboards, World Music, and ambient soundscapes.
