Il mondo del web è fantastico: se usato correttamente, permette di fare scoperte inattese, specialmente in ambito musicale. Esistono artisti che si autoproducono senza nemmeno stampare il supporto fisico e, cosa ancor più singolare, non lasciano tracce sui social o nei siti specializzati, rimanendo quasi avvolti nel mistero.
Mi sono imbattuto per caso nel progetto Liturgia Del Piombo del polistrumentista Ludovico Maggi Padovan (Wanda Wulz) e, al di là della discografia presente su Bandcamp, Spotify e Anghami, non si trovano altre notizie. Forse non sono stato meticoloso nella ricerca, ma ammetto che procedere "al buio" ha il suo fascino.
Il nome del progetto mi ha colpito immediatamente, richiamando l’immaginario tipico del Progressive Rock, così come la copertina, che non lascia dubbi sul tema dell'opera: l’omicidio di Aldo Moro e gli "anni di piombo". La discografia di Liturgia Del Piombo include già i lavori “1978” (2022), “Sisde” (2023) e “Vajony” (2025).
“Volume Primo” è suddiviso in otto tracce denominate “pagine”. La curiosità era molta: visti i temi trattati, mi sarei aspettato un richiamo stilistico agli Area, invece sono stato spiazzato da una varietà di generi inaspettata.
Già da “Pagine 1 – 83” emergono le ottime doti tecniche di Maggi Padovan: fiati, batteria, tastiere, basso e chitarra elettrica (con un assolo eccellente) si fondono in un Jazz Prog scoppiettante, che si lancia in scorribande sonore dall'autorità sorprendente. L’atmosfera degli anni '70 è palpabile, ma a colpire maggiormente sono la composizione, mai banale, e la qualità dell'incisione.
In “Pagine 84 – 168”, tra sax e clarinetto, si spazia attraverso atmosfere mutevoli che sfociano nell’Hard Prog, sostenute da una sezione ritmica precisa e massiccia, impreziosita da un ottimo giro di basso.
Le sorprese continuano con l’andamento alla Opeth (nella loro veste strumentale e meno metallica) di “Pagine 169 – 253”, la malinconia di “Pagine 254 – 336” — caratterizzata da una chitarra elettrica straziante in stile Porcupine Tree — e la spiazzante varietà di cambi umorali in “Pagine 337 – 419”. Giunto a questo punto, ho sentito il bisogno di una pausa riflessiva: raramente un album interamente strumentale riesce a colpire con tale forza.
Gli ultimi tre brani, “Pagine 420 – 505”, “Pagine 506 – 593” e “Pagine 594 – 666”, sono altrettanto geniali, ma non vorrei rovinarvi l’esperienza dell’ascolto anticipando troppo. Ho persino avuto dubbi se ci fosse stato l’uso dell’IA tanto tutto è perfetto.
“Volume Primo” è un lavoro eccellente. Sono felice di averlo scoperto e ora non mi resta che approfondire l'intera discografia di Liturgia Del Piombo, sperando di scovare presto nuove informazioni sull'autore.

The digital world is fantastic: when used correctly, it allows for unexpected discoveries, especially in the musical realm. There are artists who self-produce without ever printing a physical copy and, even more remarkably, leave no trace on social media or specialized websites, remaining almost entirely shrouded in mystery.
I stumbled by chance upon the project Liturgia Del Piombo by multi-instrumentalist Ludovico Maggi Padovan (Wanda Wulz). Aside from his discography on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Anghami, no other information is to be found. Perhaps I wasn't meticulous enough in my search, but I must admit that going in "blind" has its own charm.
The project's name struck me immediately, evoking imagery typical of Progressive Rock, as did the cover art, which leaves no doubt about the album's theme: the assassination of Aldo Moro and the "anni di piombo" (the Years of Lead). Liturgia Del Piombo’s discography already includes the works “1978” (2022), “Sisde” (2023), and “Vajony” (2025).
“Volume Primo” is divided into eight tracks titled “pagine” (pages). My curiosity was high: given the subject matter, I expected a stylistic nod to Area; instead, I was blown away by an unexpected variety of genres.
Right from “Pagine 1 – 83,” Maggi Padovan’s excellent technical skills emerge. Horns, drums, keyboards, bass, and electric guitar (featuring an excellent solo) merge into a sparkling Jazz Prog that launches into sonic excursions of surprising authority. The 70s atmosphere is palpable, but what impresses most is the composition—never cliché—and the high quality of the recording.
In “Pagine 84 – 168,” between sax and clarinet, the music explores shifting atmospheres that flow into Hard Prog, supported by a precise and massive rhythmic section, enhanced by a great bass line.
The surprises continue with an Opeth-style vibe (in their instrumental, less metallic vein) in “Pagine 169 – 253,” the melancholy of “Pagine 254 – 336” — characterized by a heartbreaking electric guitar reminiscent of Porcupine Tree — and the staggering variety of moods in “Pagine 337 – 419.” At this point, I had to stop for a moment of reflection: rarely does an entirely instrumental album strike with such force.
The final three tracks, “Pagine 420 – 505,” “Pagine 506 – 593,” and “Pagine 594 – 666,” are equally brilliant, but I wouldn’t want to spoil the listening experience by revealing too much. I even wondered if AI had been used, so perfect is the execution.
“Volume Primo” is an excellent piece of work. I am glad I found it, and now I have no choice but to dive into the rest of Liturgia Del Piombo’s discography, hoping to uncover more information about the author soon.
