La vita ci pone dinanzi a ingiustizie, cattiverie e abusi: un odio umano purtroppo fin troppo visibile in questi tempi moderni. In tale contesto, la musica si rivela una scappatoia, una via di fuga che possiamo definire “valvola di sfogo”, un luogo in cui isolarsi per resettare tutto. Sebbene tra chi suona e chi ascolta vi siano differenze evidenti, lo scopo finale unisce entrambi: il mondo sarebbe senz'altro migliore con più note e meno parole.
L’intento del nuovo album dei Mindance, band di Campobasso, è proprio quello di proiettarci in una dimensione sociale più luminosa. Il gruppo persegue l'obiettivo attraverso un unico brano di ventotto minuti, dove il Post Prog Moderno domina la scena.
La formazione, composta da Tonino Marchitelli (voce, tastiere), Gianluca Vergalito (chitarra), Peppe Aloisi (basso, voce, synth, noises) e Massimo Cosimi (batteria), giunge così al terzo capitolo discografico dopo “Cosmically Nothing” (2020) e “Colors” (2022).
Lo stile sonoro attinge a piene mani dall'universo dei Porcupine Tree; persino il titolo dell’album richiama la creatura di Steven Wilson. Si tratta di una scelta rivolta a una nicchia di appassionati: l’opera, pur contenendo passaggi orecchiabili e interessanti, risulterà complessa da trasmettere in radio a causa della sua imponente durata.
I Mindance mostrano una crescita caratteriale e d'esperienza, evidente in scelte compositive mature e attente alle armonie.
Un assolo di chitarra acustica apre il viaggio, inizialmente immerso in un mondo psichedelico e onirico, per poi procedere dolcemente in un crescendo in cui subentrano tutti gli strumenti. Qui, il riff delle tastiere si fa ipnotico fino al sopraggiungere del cantato. La musica acquista profondità, specialmente nella seconda parte, dove atmosfere cupe calano come un manto protettivo. Ottima la cura dei suoni, arricchita da piacevoli effetti stereofonici.
Nella sospensione sonora sembra quasi di fluttuare, "surfando" sopra una chitarra elettrica maestra d’ipnosi. Trascinanti e coinvolgenti, le note attraversano fasi grevi fino all'innesto dell'elettronica con funzione ritmica. Si apre quindi uno scenario differente, non tanto per le sonorità quanto per un’attitudine cara non solo a Wilson, ma soprattutto ai Pink Floyd.
Ci si sente soli, abbandonati… La soluzione è restare immobili all’ascolto, una pazienza ripagata da un’apertura solare dettata principalmente dalle tastiere. Non mancano richiami ai Genesis degli anni ’70, momenti in cui la musica diventa emotivamente travolgente; ma sono solo attimi, poiché la chitarra torna presto a ruggire. Superfluo sottolineare i numerosi cambi di tempo, costantemente presenti e appassionanti.
In realtà, l’ascolto di “Waiting” non mi è sembrato durare ventotto minuti, bensì cinque: testimonianza di una fluidità eccellente e priva di momenti di stanca… Che abbiano avuto ragione loro?
I Mindance sono ormai una realtà consolidata che, a mio giudizio, si pone tra le band italiane moderne più interessanti del settore. Chi ama le formazioni sopra citate non potrà che confermare il piacere che si prova durante l’ascolto, un'esperienza che spesso viene affrontata ad occhi chiusi. Onirico. MS

Life confronts us with injustice, malice, and abuse—a surge of human hatred that is all too visible in these modern times. In such a context, music becomes an escape, a way out that we can define as a “valvola di sfogo” (a safety valve), a sanctuary in which to isolate oneself and reset everything. While the differences between those who play and those who listen are evident, their ultimate purpose unites them: the world would be a better place with more notes and fewer words.
The intent of the new album by the Campobasso-based band Mindance is precisely to lead us into a better social dimension, achieving this through a single twenty-eight-minute track where Modern Post-Prog dominates every field.
Still featuring the line-up of Tonino Marchitelli (vocals, keyboards), Gianluca Vergalito (guitar), Peppe Aloisi (bass, vocals, synth, noises), and Massimo Cosimi (drums), the band reaches its third album following “Cosmically Nothing” (Lizard Records – 2020) and “Colors” (Lizard Records – 2022).
The sonic style draws heavily from Porcupine Tree; even the album title echoes Steven Wilson’s band. This is a choice specifically aimed at a niche of enthusiasts, as the album—despite containing very catchy and interesting passages—will certainly be a challenge for radio airplay given the track's length.
Mindance have grown in character and experience, as evidenced by mature compositional choices and a keen ear for beautiful harmonies. An acoustic guitar solo opens the journey, initially venturing into a psychedelic and dreamlike world before gently proceeding into a crescendo where all the instruments join in. Here, the keyboard riff is hypnotic until the vocals arrive. The music possesses great depth, especially in the second half, where dark psychedelic atmospheres descend like a shroud. The sound production is excellent, featuring pleasant stereo effects.
Within the suspension of sound, one lingers, "surfing" over an electric guitar that is a master of hypnosis. Compelling and immersive, the notes traverse heavy and electric phases until the arrival of electronics providing the rhythm. A different scenario unfolds—not so much in terms of sound, but in an attitude dear not only to Wilson but especially to Pink Floyd.
One feels alone, abandoned… The solution is to remain motionless while listening, a patience rewarded by a bright opening led primarily by the keyboards. Brief echoes of 1970s-era Genesis follow, where the music becomes highly and emotionally charged; but these are mere moments, as the guitar returns to roar. It is needless for me to point out the numerous time signature changes, which are ever-present and enthralling.
In truth, listening to “Waiting” did not feel like twenty-eight minutes, but rather five—a testament to its excellent fluidity, devoid of any stale moments… “Che abbiano avuto ragione loro?” (Could they have been right?).
Mindance are a consolidated reality, at least in my judgment, placing them among the most interesting modern Italian bands in this sector. Those who love the music of the aforementioned bands will surely confirm the pleasure felt during the listen, an experience that is very often embraced with eyes closed. Onirico. (Dreamlike). MS
