Nicola Quarto, in arte Nick The Freak, ritorna a pochi mesi di distanza "sul luogo del delitto" in quel di Bari, per narrare le vicissitudini della sua città pur non nominandola espressamente. “Il Rumore Della Città Vol.2” è la seconda parte di un concept suddiviso in due capitoli in cui il cantautorato, apparentemente scanzonato, lascia spazio a sensazioni, colori ed emozioni. Questo volume completa il viaggio iniziato a fine 2025 con il Vol.1, portando a termine un progetto nato durante le sessioni di scrittura solitaria del periodo 2020-2021.
Il chitarrista e compositore Nick The Freak vanta una lunga esperienza nella scena Rock, Blues e Reggae (già noto per i progetti Modaxì e Bari Upbeat Movement, oltre alle collaborazioni con Caparezza) ed esordisce discograficamente nel 2019 con l’album “Il Disco Vecchio”. Nell’album attuale, composto da cinque canzoni, si avvale della collaborazione di artisti come Simone Martorana (chitarre, cori), Nicola De Liso (batteria), Marcello Piarulli (basso), Dj Tuppi (scratches), Valeria Quarto, Francesco Lamacchia, Mr. Bogo, Marta Simone e Francesco Scattarella (cori).
Mentre il primo volume presentava sonorità più scure e graffianti, il “Volume 2” mantiene il focus sulla narrazione urbana, parlando di persone, incontri e quotidianità metropolitana vista attraverso gli occhi di un "osservatore elettrico". Il genere propone un Rock d'autore italiano di "vecchia scuola" che mette al centro gli strumenti reali, in un mix solido di Rock, Blues e punte di Reggae dalla forte attitudine "live".
Se nel “Vol. 1” l'urgenza era quella di "buttare fuori" il rumore accumulato, nel “Volume 2” la scrittura si fa più riflessiva e quasi cinematografica, oltre a essere una sarcastica denuncia di comportamenti ipocriti, sia sul piano sociale sia su quello personale. Nick usa un vocabolario diretto, privo di metafore troppo astratte. È "rock" nel senso più stretto: poche chiacchiere e molta verità. Attenzione però: c’è anche molta autoironia; Nick non si pone mai come un santone e c'è sempre una punta di sarcasmo rivolta verso se stesso, il che rende i testi molto umani e vicini all'ascoltatore.
Nick The Freak non cerca la rima baciata a tutti i costi. La scrittura segue il ritmo della batteria, spesso sincopata e figlia delle sue influenze Blues e Reggae, come nell’iniziale e simpatica “Perso”. Il brano gode di un riff di chitarra sporco e graffiante, con la batteria molto "avanti" nel mix che restituisce la sensazione di un pezzo registrato quasi in presa diretta.
In “100 Euro” il ritmo rallenta ma aumenta il "groove". È un pezzo trascinante influenzato dal Funk Rock, con una linea di basso pulsante che guida tutta la canzone. La chitarra si fa più ritmica, con accordi stoppati che richiamano lo stile di certi brani dei primi anni '80. La musica sottolinea l'ironia amara del testo sul valore del denaro e sulla precarietà.
“Bla Bla Bla” è il brano più scanzonato, ma solo in apparenza. La struttura richiama il Reggae Rock stile Police o Bari Upbeat Movement. La chitarra in levare dà respiro al pezzo, rendendolo uno dei momenti più ballabili del disco nonostante la critica feroce al chiacchiericcio inutile dei social e della televisione.
Il brano più ribelle del “Volume 2” è “2+2=3”: breve, intenso e senza fronzoli. Non c'è spazio per i virtuosismi, conta solo l'energia.
Il conclusivo “Quanto Amore” riconcilia l'ascoltatore con la "città", chiudendo il cerchio con un messaggio di speranza umana nonostante il rumore di fondo. Nick predilige suoni "vintage": non ci sono effetti ultra-moderni e si sente il calore delle valvole degli amplificatori. La voce è naturale, con tutte le sue imperfezioni che diventano un marchio di fabbrica di autenticità.
Se amate il suono di chitarra-basso-batteria e cercate canzoni che abbiano il sapore del club e del sudore sul palco, questo disco è la risposta di Nick The Freak all'elettronica imperante. È un lavoro onesto, indipendente e profondamente legato alla realtà urbana di chi lo ha scritto. MS

Nicola Quarto, aka Nick The Freak, returns just a few months later to the "scene of the crime" in Bari, to narrate the vicissitudes of his city without ever expressly naming it. “Il Rumore Della Città Vol.2” is the second part of a concept divided into two chapters where apparently lighthearted songwriting gives way to sensations, colors, and emotions. This volume completes the journey begun at the end of 2025 with Vol.1, finalizing a project born during solitary writing sessions between 2020 and 2021.
Guitarist and composer Nick The Freak boasts extensive experience in the Rock, Blues, and Reggae scene (already known for projects like Modaxì and Bari Upbeat Movement, as well as collaborations with Caparezza) and made his recording debut in 2019 with the album “Il Disco Vecchio.” In this current album, consisting of five songs, he enlists the help of artists such as Simone Martorana (guitars, backing vocals), Nicola De Liso (drums), Marcello Piarulli (bass), Dj Tuppi (scratches), Valeria Quarto, Francesco Lamacchia, Mr. Bogo, Marta Simone, and Francesco Scattarella (backing vocals).
While the first volume featured darker and grittier sounds, “Volume 2” maintains the focus on urban storytelling, speaking of people, encounters, and metropolitan everyday life seen through the eyes of an "electric observer." The genre offers "old school" Italian singer-songwriter Rock that centers on real instruments in a solid mix of Rock, Blues, and hints of Reggae with a strong "live" attitude.
If in “Vol. 1” the urgency was to "push out" accumulated noise, in “Volume 2” the writing becomes more reflective and almost cinematic, while also serving as a sarcastic denunciation of hypocritical behavior on both a social and personal level. Nick uses direct vocabulary, free of overly abstract metaphors. It is "rock" in the strictest sense: little talk and a lot of truth. Be warned, though: there is also plenty of self-irony; Nick never poses as a guru and there is always a hint of sarcasm directed at himself, which makes the lyrics very human and relatable.
Nick The Freak doesn't chase perfect rhymes at all costs. The writing follows the rhythm of the drums, often syncopated and born from his Blues and Reggae influences, as seen in the opening and catchy “Perso.” The track features a dirty, gritty guitar riff, with the drums very "forward" in the mix, giving the feel of a song recorded almost live.
In “100 Euro” the pace slows down but the "groove" picks up. It is a compelling track influenced by Funk Rock, with a pulsing bassline that drives the entire song. The guitar becomes more rhythmic, with muted chords reminiscent of early '80s styles. The music underscores the bitter irony of the lyrics regarding the value of money and precariousness.
“Bla Bla Bla” is the most lighthearted track, but only on the surface. The structure recalls Reggae Rock (in the style of The Police or Bari Upbeat Movement). The upbeat guitar gives the song breathing room, making it one of the most danceable moments on the record despite the fierce critique of the useless chatter on social media and television.
The most rebellious track of “Volume 2” is “2+2=3”: short, intense, and no-frills. There is no room for virtuosity; only energy matters.
The closing “Quanto Amore” reconciles the listener with the "city," closing the circle with a message of human hope despite the background noise. Nick prefers "vintage" sounds: there are no ultra-modern effects, and you can hear the warmth of the tube amplifiers. The vocals are natural, with all the imperfections that have become a trademark of authenticity.
If you love the sound of guitar-bass-drums and look for songs with the flavor of the club and sweat on the stage, this record is Nick The Freak’s answer to the prevailing electronics. It is an honest, independent work, deeply tied to the urban reality of the man who wrote it. MS
