Ho sempre apprezzato il connubio tra Hard Rock melodico e AOR, una formula capace di infondere energia e solarità che richiede, per essere espressa ai massimi livelli, una notevole tecnica strumentale. La Burning Minds Music Group attinge spesso a quel sottobosco in cui gli amanti di queste sonorità si dedicano a fermare il tempo attraverso composizioni incastonate nella storia del genere. Con i Firesky siamo al cospetto di un debutto, eppure al timone del progetto non troviamo l’ultimo arrivato: il batterista finlandese Mika Brushane (Imperium). Già nel 2025 l'artista aveva offerto un saggio delle proprie capacità con il brano "To Be The Number One", incluso nella compilation "We Still Rock... The World". Al suo fianco militano oggi Davide Merletto alla voce, Samuli Federley alla chitarra, Time Schleifer al basso e Saal Richmond alle tastiere e programmazioni. Il disco vanta inoltre ospiti di rilievo come Davide "Dave Rox" Barbieri e Alessandro Del Vecchio ai cori.
Lo stile proposto è fortemente influenzato dai giganti degli anni '80 come Journey, Foreigner, Def Leppard, Giant e Toto, un'eredità che si riflette anche nella cura del comparto fisico del disco, impreziosito dalle note di copertina di Fabio Vellata (TrueMetal.it). L'ascolto si apre con un temporale in “Run Into The Storm”, introduzione epica dominata dalle tastiere di Richmond e da una chitarra elettrica che si libera in un assolo fulmineo ed enfatico.
Il brano sfocia direttamente in “Out Of Range”, traccia esplosiva per potenza e carisma, dove la magia dell’AOR risiede proprio nel saper bilanciare l'impatto Rock a momenti melodici di rara classe.
Elettronica, coralità e cambi d'umore caratterizzano invece “I’M Not Broken”, pezzo dall'incedere simile ai Queensrÿche più melodici, capace di mantenere alta l’attenzione grazie a un ritornello solido e a una prova vocale sapientemente plasmata a seconda del contesto. Le sonorità virano poi verso il Neo Prog con “A Stone In Time”, canzone che vede la partecipazione di Davide Barbieri e che farà sicuramente la gioia dei fan dei Toto. La tradizione del genere rivive anche nella delicata “Can You Feel Me?”, una composizione diretta dalle ampie sonorità in cui spiccano un refrain trascinante e un assolo di chitarra toccante.
Il disco prosegue con il vigore di “Chasing The Dawn”, che punta su una vocalità ampia e pulita, e con la splendida ballata “One Last Time”, un movimento di classe in cui sentimento ed energia si fondono alla perfezione, invitando l'ascoltatore a chiudere gli occhi per lasciarsi trasportare. Per scoprire il lato più ricercato della band bisogna giungere a “Like Brothers”, brano apparentemente semplice ma arricchito da arrangiamenti funzionali che ricordano lo stile dei Bon Jovi.
Verso il finale, l'album decolla con l’ariosità sognante di “Together” e si chiude con la potenza di “I Am Fire”, un "pezzo da novanta" dove l’insieme strumentale si muove all’unisono con vigore e perizia tecnica. In definitiva, questo debutto rappresenta per il genere una ventata d'aria fresca in una stanza chiusa: una necessità, oltre che un autentico piacere. MS

I have always appreciated the sonic marriage of Melodic Hard Rock and AOR—a formula capable of infusing energy and brightness that requires, to be expressed at the highest level, remarkable instrumental technique. Burning Minds Music Group often taps into that underground scene where lovers of these sounds dedicate themselves to freezing time through compositions embedded in the genre's history. With Firesky, we are witnessing a debut, yet the man at the helm of the project is certainly no newcomer: Finnish drummer Mika Brushane (Imperium). Back in 2025, the artist already offered a glimpse of his capabilities with the track "To Be The Number One", included in the compilation "We Still Rock... The World". Joining him today are Davide Merletto on vocals, Samuli Federley on guitar, Time Schleifer on bass, and Saal Richmond on keyboards and programming. The album also boasts prominent guests such as Davide "Dave Rox" Barbieri and Alessandro Del Vecchio on backing vocals.
The proposed style is heavily influenced by 80s giants like Journey, Foreigner, Def Leppard, Giant, and Toto—a heritage also reflected in the care put into the physical edition of the disc, enhanced by exclusive liner notes from Fabio Vellata (TrueMetal.it). The listening experience opens with a thunderstorm in “Run Into The Storm”, an epic intro dominated by Richmond’s keyboards and an electric guitar that breaks free in a lightning-fast, highly emphatic solo. This flows directly into “Out Of Range”, an explosive track in terms of power and charisma, where the magic of AOR lies precisely in the ability to balance rock impact with moments of rare melodic class.
Electronics, choral harmonies, and mood shifts characterize “I’M Not Broken”, a piece with an incedere reminiscent of the more melodic side of Queensrÿche, capable of holding the listener's attention thanks to a solid chorus and a vocal performance wisely shaped according to the context. The sound then veers toward Neo-Prog with “A Stone In Time”, a song featuring Davide Barbieri that will surely delight fans of Toto. The tradition of the genre also lives on in the delicate “Can You Feel Me?”, a direct composition with wide-ranging sonics where a soaring refrain and a touching guitar solo stand out.
The album continues with the vigor of “Chasing The Dawn”, which relies on broad, clean vocals, and the splendid ballad “One Last Time”, a classy movement where sentiment and energy merge perfectly, inviting the listener to close their eyes and let the music take over. To discover the band's more sophisticated side, one must reach “Like Brothers”, a deceptively simple track enriched with functional arrangements reminiscent of Bon Jovi's style. Towards the end, the album takes flight with the dreamy airiness of “Together” and closes with the power of “I Am Fire”, a heavy hitter where the ensemble moves in unison with vigor and technical prowess. Ultimately, for this genre, this debut is like opening a window in a room with stale air: a necessity as much as a pleasure. MS
