Nell’immaginario dell’essere umano, il terzo luogo è una sorta di limbo che staziona fra la vita e la morte, probabilmente quello che psicologicamente ci affascina di più, e come può una band di Rock Progressivo lasciarsi sfuggire tali sensazioni da illustrare? Ci pensano i livornesi Aurora Lunare, che ritornano dopo l’omonimo debutto di dieci anni fa, a fare un tracciato sull’argomento attraverso colti riferimenti letterari. Tuttavia il terzo luogo può essere inteso anche come una comparazione fra perdono e la dannazione, l’inferno e il paradiso, l’umano e il divino, in definitiva come un “terzo occhio” capace di leggere nel subconscio, oppure paradossalmente anche quel luogo che non è casa e neppure il lavoro ma semplicemente una via di mezzo, magari in pizzeria con degli amici. Tante le interpretazioni che si possono ipotizzare.
“Terzo Luogo” è dunque il titolo di questo nuovo album dalla lunga gestazione, ma come spesso accade in questi casi, quando si mette la calma, la pazienza e diversa cura nei particolari, il risultato è solitamente superiore alla media.
Mauro Pini (voce), Stefano Onorati (piano, synth, chitarra elettrica), Luciano Tonetti (basso elettrico, ukulele), e Marco Santinelli (batteria), danno vita a questa opera Rock suddivisa in sette tracce, coadiuvandosi di special guest come Alessandro Corvaglia (voce), Raffaella Izzo (voce), Gianluca Milanese (flauto traverso), e Giuseppe Tonetti (bouzouki).
Quello che si denota immediatamente all’ascolto è l’innegabile esperienza dei singoli componenti oltre la passione per il classico Prog italiano, quello portato soprattutto al successo dalla Premiata Forneria Marconi. Da sottolineare anche che gli Aurora Lunare hanno avuto una lunga vita travagliata che inizia nel lontano 1977 quando il genere spara le ultime cartucce per poi sopirsi sotto i colpi del Punk, la Disco e la New Wave.
Queste influenze sono tangibili sin da “Oltre La Fredda Aurora”, un suono ampio e curato nei particolari sostenuto da buone tastiere, una chitarra presente e un interpretazione vocale di Corvaglia (proprio ex Aurora Lunare) in stile Neo Prog, sono le caratteristiche basilari della band.
Un ritmo spezzato si manifesta in “La Vita Sfiorata”, brano contenente un bell’assolo di chitarra e una interpretazione vocale al limite del recitato davvero coinvolgente. Ancora marcatamente ricercato risulta essere “L’Eterno Varco”, dove un organo rilascia all’ascoltatore atmosfere grevi su cui riflettere durante l’ascolto dei testi, specialmente nel finale dove Mauro Pini narra “Stanco sfinito offeso straziato, la tua sorte si nasconde ancora sotto il peso della verità sognata”.
La title track non fa ostaggi, l’enfasi sale in cattedra grazie anche all’apporto vocale di Raffaella Izzo, al flauto di Gianluca Milanese e all’interpretazione di Corvaglia prossima a quella di Bernardo Lanzetti. Siamo decisamente in pieno territorio Prog DOC.
Non può mancare uno strumentale, qui intitolato “Parafollia”, dove all’interno sopraggiungono improvvisazioni e molto Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, gioia per lo storico e radicato Prog fans. Le atmosfere diventano  rarefatte in “Alla Fine Del Niente”, tante tastiere ma ancora una volta è la chitarra a colpire il mio stato d’animo.
Un pianoforte malinconico accompagna alla chiusura dell’album con “Vana Profezia”, canzone dove i testi ricoprono un ruolo importante. Durante lo svolgimento non mancano di certo i cambi di tempo e le fughe strumentali, come il genere necessita. Gli Aurora Lunare sono una band ritrovata, e aggiungerei per fortuna, visto che siamo maestri nel mondo di questo genere che non finirà mai di emozionare, perché fatto con la testa ma soprattutto con il cuore, senza pianificare altro. In the imagination of the human being, the third place is a kind of limbo that is stationed between life and death, probably the one that psychologically fascinates us the most, and how can a Progressive Rock band let such feelings slip by to illustrate? It takes the Livorno-based Aurora Lunare, who return after their eponymous debut a decade ago, to make a track on the subject through cultured literary references. However, the third place can also be understood as a comparison between forgiveness and damnation, hell and heaven, the human and the divine, ultimately as a "third eye" capable of reading the subconscious, or paradoxically also that place that is not home or even work but simply somewhere in between, perhaps in a pizzeria with friends. So many interpretations can be hypothesized.
"Third Place" is thus the title of this new album with a long gestation, but as often happens in these cases, when you put calm, patience and different care in the details, the result is usually above average.
Mauro Pini (vocals), Stefano Onorati (piano, synth, electric guitar), Luciano Tonetti (electric bass, ukulele), and Marco Santinelli (drums), give life to this Rock opus divided into seven tracks, assisted by special guests such as Alessandro Corvaglia (vocals), Raffaella Izzo (vocals), Gianluca Milanese (transverse flute), and Giuseppe Tonetti (bouzouki).
What is immediately denoted upon listening is the undeniable experience of the individual components as well as the passion for classic Italian Prog, the kind brought especially to success by Premiata Forneria Marconi. It should also be emphasized that Aurora Lunare have had a long troubled life beginning back in 1977 when the genre fired its last cartridges only to subside under the blows of Punk, Disco and New Wave.
These influences are tangible from as early as " Oltre La Fredda Aurora" a wide and detail-oriented sound supported by good keyboards, a present guitar and a Neo Prog-style vocal interpretation by Corvaglia (right formerly Aurora Lunare) are the band's basic characteristics.
A broken rhythm manifests itself in "La Vita Sfiorata," a song containing a nice guitar solo and a truly engaging borderline-acted vocal interpretation.
Still markedly researched turns out to be "L'Eterno Varco" where an organ releases heavy atmospheres for the listener to reflect on while listening to the lyrics, especially in the finale where Mauro Pini narrates "Tired exhausted offended torn, your fate still hides under the weight of the dreamed truth."
The title track makes no hostages, the emphasis soaring thanks in part to Raffaella Izzo's vocal contribution, Gianluca Milanese's flute and Corvaglia's interpretation close to that of Bernardo Lanzetti. We are definitely in full Prog DOC territory.
Can't miss an instrumental, here titled "Parafollia" where improvisations and a lot of Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso overflow inside, a joy for the historic and rooted Prog fans. Atmospheres become rarefied in "Alla Fine Del Niente “, lots of keyboards but once again it is the guitar that hits my mood.
A melancholic piano accompanies to the closing of the album with "Vana Profezia”, a song where lyrics play an important role. During the unfolding there is certainly no shortage of tempo changes and instrumental fugues, as the genre needs. Aurora Lunare are a rediscovered band, and I would add fortunately, since we are masters in the world of this genre that will never cease to excite, because it is done with the head but above all with the heart, without planning anything else.
