La scena musicale genovese è ricca di artisti dediti sia al Pop che al Rock, soprattutto in ambito Rock Progressivo. Negli anni ’70 come non citare i New Trolls e l’immenso lavoro produttivo di Vittorio De Scalzi e Nico Di Palo, e poi i Latte E Miele piuttosto che Nuova Idea, Osage Tribe (sotto la supervisione di Franco Battiato), Picchio Dal Pozzo, Duello Madre, Delirium, Garybaldi, Ibis, J.E.T. e molti altri. Oggi il Ballo Delle Castagne, Il Tempio Delle Clessidre, Melting Clock, Il Cerchio D’Oro etc. Poi anche il genere Dark è ben rappresentato da gruppi come Malombra, Il Segno Del Comando, e così via. Questi ultimi hanno come comune denominatore il talentuoso compositore, insegnante e bassista Diego Banchero.
Banchero (fondatore di Malombra e Zess) oggi ha un nuovo progetto in formazione trio, nel quale esprime una musicalità a tutto tondo, fra Jazz, Funky, Dark e molto altro ancora.
Assieme a lui suonano compagni di viaggio de Il Segno Del Comando, Roberto Lucanato alle chitarre e Fernando Cherchi alla batteria.
Il disco composto di dodici brani, è un contenitore di pezzi provenienti da differenti collaborazioni nel tempo, dalla discografia de Il Segno Del Comando (“Macabro Suite”, “Le 4 A”, “Metamorfosi”, “Messaggero Di Pietra” e “Magia Postuma”), a “Vestale” eseguita con la band Egida Aurea, e “Il Viaggio”, dal repertorio de Il Ballo Delle Castagne. Non esulano neppure brani inediti in questo percorso che mostra tutte le doti esecutive e compositive dell’artista ligure.
Immediatamente apprezzabile “Looking For The Pusher” nella quale si evincono le citate influenze stilistiche del bassista. Da rimarcare che durante la sua crescita artistica ci sono stati passaggi anche nell’Heavy Rock, nella musica prettamente cinematografica, il cantautorato e la fusion.
“Macabro Suite” è uno strumentale che potrebbe far parte di una colonna sonora di una sigla televisiva, con spunti anni ’70. La chitarra protagonista è impegnata in tutto il percorso in un protagonismo equilibrato e coinvolgente. Una parte Heavy Dark è affidata a “Le 4 A”, mentre “Vestale” è riflessiva oltre che delicata nell’andamento. Vetrina per le doti balistiche di Banchero è “One Winter Night”, qui il basso si esprime in tutta la sua eleganza. Il Rock di “Metamorfosi” lascia intravedere le basi Blues di questa musica per poi passare a “Il Viaggio”, fra Funky, Jazz e Rock. Ricercata “Bloody Sunset”, sognante e al confine con la Psichedelia. Fra i movimenti più interessanti troviamo “Magia Postuma”, sunto di quanto descritto del carattere sonoro del trio.
“Messaggiero Di Pietra” riporta nuovamente alle atmosfere velate del Dark anni ’70, ancora una volta dalle vesti cinematografiche. Sale il ritmo attraverso “Polizei Blues” dove l’intesa fra i tre elementi risulta perfettamente amalgamata e oliata.
La chiusura spetta alla delicata “Samba For A Butterfly”, altra composizione per il basso.
Questa realizzazione, mette alla prova l’apertura mentale di un ascoltatore nel quale si vede coinvolto in differenti stili sonori che in alcuni momenti potrebbero risultare incompatibili, ma chi ha seguito la carriera di questo grande musicista sicuramente troverà piacevole. Da avere!

The Genoese music scene is full of artists devoted to both Pop and Rock, especially in the Progressive Rock sphere. In the 1970s how could we not mention the New Trolls and the immense production work of Vittorio De Scalzi and Nico Di Palo, and then the Latte E Miele rather than Nuova Idea, Osage Tribe (under the supervision of Franco Battiato), Picchio Dal Pozzo, Duello Madre, Delirium, Garybaldi, Ibis, J.E.T. and many others. Today the Chestnut Dance, The Temple Of Hourglasses, Melting Clock, The Golden Circle etc. Then also the Dark genre is well represented by groups such as Malombra, The Sign Of Command, and so on. The latter have as their common denominator the talented composer, teacher and bassist Diego Banchero.
Banchero (founder of Malombra and Zess) now has a new project in trio formation, in which he expresses a well-rounded musicality, between Jazz, Funky, Dark and more.
Playing with him are fellow travelers from Il Segno Del Comando, Roberto Lucanato on guitars and Fernando Cherchi on drums.
The disc composed of twelve tracks, is a container of pieces from different collaborations over time, from the discography of Il Segno Del Comando (“Macabro Suite”, “Le 4 A “Metamorfosi”, “Messaggero Di Pietra”, and “Magia Postuma”), to “Vestale” performed with the band Egida Aurea, and “Il Viaggio”, from the repertoire of Il Ballo Delle Castagne. There are also no unreleased tracks in this journey that shows all the performing and compositional skills of the Ligurian artist.
Immediately appreciable is “Looking For The Pusher” in which the aforementioned stylistic influences of the bassist are evident. It should be noted that during his artistic growth there were also passages in heavy rock, purely film music, songwriting and fusion.
“Macabro Suite” is an instrumental that could be part of a TV theme song soundtrack, with 70s cues. The lead guitar is engaged throughout in a balanced and engaging protagonism. A Heavy Dark part is given to “Le 4 A”, while “Vestale” is reflective as well as delicate in its progression. Showcase for Banchero's ballistic talents is “One Winter Night,” here the bass is expressed in all its elegance.
The Rock of “Metamorfosi” gives a glimpse of the Blues basis of this music and then moves on to “Il Viaggio”, between Funky, Jazz and Rock. Searched “Bloody Sunset”, dreamy and bordering on Psychedelia. Among the most interesting movements we find “Magia Postuma”, a summary of what has been described of the trio's sonic character.
“Messaggiero Di Pietra” takes us back to the veiled atmospheres of 70s Dark, once again with cinematic guises. The pace rises through “Polizei Blues” where the chemistry between the three elements is perfectly blended and oiled.
Closure falls to the delicate “Samba For A Butterfly”, another bass composition.
This realization, tests the open-mindedness of a listener in which he or she becomes involved in different sound styles that at some moments might be incompatible, but those who have followed the career of this great musician will surely find it enjoyable. Must-have!
