Internet con le proprie potenzialità, dona a tutti la possibilità di farsi conoscere, e questo avviene in ogni campo, compreso quello musicale. La semplicità con cui ci si può inserire nel contesto sociale, fa in modo che un numero sterminato di artisti possa dire la propria, a differenza di cinquant’anni fa, che per realizzare un disco bisognava avere i contatti giusti e un costo alle spalle non indifferente. Per esempio il Progressive Rock è rimasto in vita sino ai giorni nostri grazie ai tenaci artisti e addetti ai lavori che in tempi non di moda hanno comunque investito e insistito su certe sonorità, ma soprattutto ci ha pensato il boom della condivisione. Quando dischi rari e per il portafoglio inaccessibile sono diventati di dominio pubblico con un semplice click, l’interesse verso questo genere ha ripreso immediatamente vita. Non a caso dagli anni ’90 si sono viste Réunion di band storiche altrimenti sospese negli anni ’70. Ne consegue che internet abbia avuto un ruolo fondamentale, quello della conoscenza e dell’opportunità. E’ chiaro che, vista la quantità, la qualità non è sempre di buon livello, tuttavia si scoprono anche belle sorprese, come per esempio questa della band romana Via Modesta Valenti.
La band si forma nel 2017 ed è composta da Matteo Zanuzzi (Voce), Adriano Sabatucci (chitarre), Francesco Mongatti (tastiere), Gianmarco Palma (basso), e Luca Santi (batteria).
 “Suite for The Last Prophet" è un EP formato da un unico brano suddiviso in dodici atti, per una durata totale di ventitré minuti di musica. Quello che comprendo sin dal primo ascolto è il divertimento con cui i protagonisti si sono cimentati, oltre all’amore per questo stile. Fuoriesce anche una volontà di vivere le sonorità con una personalità magari ancora da forgiare a dovere, ma di base alquanto percepibile. Numerosi i richiami al Neo Prog di stampo anni ’80. Il cantato è sia in inglese sia in italiano. Non mancano neppure puntate nel Jazz.
Le tastiere ricoprono un ruolo di spicco, così la cura per le melodie mai troppo articolate e alcuni assolo di chitarra (e arpeggi) di Marillioniana memoria. Mi ricordano i primi passi della band di Fish e soci, quando anche loro iniziano con una lunga suite intitolata “Grendel”.
Il Mellotron fa comparsa di tanto in tanto, i cambi di ritmo sono all’ordine del giorno, insomma, tutto fa capire che i ragazzi hanno assimilato certe lezioni del passato. Piccoli sprazzi di Pink Floyd fanno capolino di tanto in tanto.
I Via Modesti Valenti hanno passione, senso dell’umorismo e cuore, quindi buoni argomenti su cui costruire in futuro album che interesseranno non soltanto gli estimatori delle band da me citate. Difetti veri e propri non ne ho riscontrati, probabilmente un’attenzione maggiore alla registrazione andrebbe attuata, ma questa è anche questione di gusto personale. Ora aspetto la prova dell’album ufficiale e non me la sento di dare consigli al riguardo, in quanto un artista quando si diverte è già sulla buona strada, poi suite o canzoni più brevi è solo questione di scelta strategica attuabile all’argomento che si vuole trattare. Di base promuovo quest’uscita, e sottolineo che anche grazie alle nuove leve che il Prog Rock prosegue inesorabile il proprio cammino. MS

The Internet with its potential, gives everyone the opportunity to make themselves known, and this happens in every field, including music. The simplicity with which one can insert oneself in the social context, makes it so that an endless number of artists can have their say, unlike fifty years ago, which in order to make a record one had to have the right contacts and a not inconsiderable cost behind it. For example, Progressive Rock has remained alive to the present day thanks to the tenacious artists and insiders who in unfashionable times still invested and insisted on certain sounds, but above all the sharing boom took care of that. When rare and for the wallet inaccessible records became public domain with a simple click, interest in this genre immediately revived. Not surprisingly, since the 1990s we have seen Reunions of historic bands otherwise suspended in the 1970s. It follows that the Internet has played a key role, that of knowledge and opportunity. Clearly, given the quantity, the quality is not always of a good standard, however, one also discovers nice surprises, such as this one by the Roman band Via Modesta Valenti.
The band was formed in 2017 and is composed of Matteo Zanuzzi (vocals), Adriano Sabatucci (guitars), Francesco Mongatti (keyboards), Gianmarco Palma (bass), and Luca Santi (drums).
 “Suite for The Last Prophet” is an EP consisting of a single track divided into twelve acts, with a total duration of twenty-three minutes of music. What I understand from the first listen is the fun with which the protagonists have engaged, as well as the love for this style. There also emerges a willingness to experience the sounds with a personality perhaps yet to be properly forged, but basicly quite perceptible. There are numerous references to 80s-style Neo Prog. The singing is in both English and Italian. There is also no shortage of points in Jazz.
Keyboards play a prominent role, so does the care for melodies that are never too articulate and some guitar solos (and arpeggios) of Marillionian memory. They remind me of Fish and co.'s band's early days, when they, too, begin with a long suite entitled “Grendel.”
The Mellotron makes an appearance from time to time, tempo changes are the order of the day, in short, it all suggests that the boys have assimilated certain lessons from the past. Little flashes of Pink Floyd peep out from time to time.
Via Modesti Valenti have passion, a sense of humor and heart, so good arguments on which to build in future albums that will interest not only admirers of the bands I mentioned. Real flaws I did not find any, probably more attention to the recording should be implemented, but this is also a matter of personal taste. Now I am waiting for the proof of the official album and I do not feel like giving advice in this regard, as an artist when he is having fun is already on the right track, then suites or shorter songs is just a matter of strategic choice implementable to the topic one wants to deal with. Basically I promote this release, and I emphasize that it is also thanks to the newcomers that Prog Rock inexorably continues on its path. MS
