Dove sta andando la scena Progressive Metal? Quali nuovi sviluppi si prospettano? Sembrano lontanissimi i tempi dei Dream Theater, dei Queensryche, eppure il genere non è che si sia sviluppato in maniera così veloce rispetto ad altri stili musicali. In effetti, non è semplice creare qualcosa di nuovo quando molto è già stato realizzato, solo le mode e l’avanzare della tecnologia contribuiscono alla nascita di nuovi scenari.
L’America ha avuto un ruolo importante nel Progressive Metal, e la storia prosegue con nuova linfa vitale, la band Earthside per esempio, s’inventa il Rock Cinematografico, una proposta in cui la creatività si sposa con l’eclettismo. Il quartetto formato da Jamie Van Dyck (chitarre, tastiere, cori),
Frank Sacramone (tastiere, cori), Ryan Griffin (basso), Ben Shanbrom (batteria, cori), sembra aver assimilato in pieno la lezione di gruppi come Tool, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Opeth, Katatonia etc. 
“Let The Truth Speak” è il secondo album in studio dopo “A Dream In Static” dell’ormai lontano 2015, e contiene dieci canzoni per la durata di settantasette minuti abbondanti di musica. Per raggiungere certi livelli emotivi, si necessita di arrangiamenti marcati e quindi di una maggiore cura per le strumentazioni, proprio per questo gli Earthside si avvalgono della collaborazione di special guest, che in questo caso rispondono ai nomi di Sandbox (percussioni), Keturah (voce), Pritam Adhikary  (voce solista), AJ Channer (voce solista), Larry Braggs (voce solista), Sam Gendel  (sassofono tenore), VikKe (voce), Duo Scorpio (arpa), Gennady Tkachenko-Papizh (voce), Daniel Tompkins (voce solista), e Baard Kolstad  (batteria).
Il passato non è dimenticato, esistono addirittura arpeggi che richiamano i Genesis anni ’70, a testimonianza che per sapere dove andare, bisogna sempre conoscere da dove si viene, è così che l’evoluzione ha effettivamente un futuro. Agli intenditori dico che in questa musica c’è molto Post-Djent.
Se anche oggi sentite dire che non c’è più nulla di nuovo, significa che non hanno ascoltato gli Earthside. Non facciamoci cogliere impreparati, l’evoluzione può piacere o no, tuttavia esiste inesorabile, e la band con sede nel New England fa parte di una nuova scena ricca di creatività e buona tecnica strumentale. Un disco complesso, coraggioso, a tratti etereo, poi nervoso, ipnotico, sognante, horrorifico, psichedelico, solo per nominare alcuni aggettivi che vengono in mente durante l’ascolto.
Se amate le emozioni forti, allora “Let The Truth Speak” fa al caso vostro, ma attenzione, si necessita obbligatoriamente di ascolti ripetuti per goderne a pieno il significato, non è musica da ascoltare superficialmente.
La mia speranza ora è che non debba attendere altri nove anni per ascoltare una nuova opera, comincio ad avere una certa età e comunque ho sempre l’intatta la voglia di stupirmi, perché è questa la chiave della vita: lo stupore.

Where is the Progressive Metal scene going? What new developments lie ahead? The days of Dream Theater, Queensryche, seem so far away, yet the genre is not like it has developed so fast compared to other styles of music. Indeed, it is not easy to create something new when much has already been accomplished, only fads and advancing technology contribute to the emergence of new scenarios.
America has played an important role in Progressive Metal, and the story continues with new lifeblood, the band Earthside for example, invents Cinematic Rock, a proposition in which creativity is married to eclecticism. The quartet consisting of Jamie Van Dyck (guitars, keyboards, backing vocals),
Frank Sacramone (keyboards, backing vocals), Ryan Griffin (bass), Ben Shanbrom (drums, backing vocals), seems to have fully assimilated the lessons of bands such as Tool, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Opeth, Katatonia etc. 
"Let The Truth Speak" is the second studio album after "A Dream In Static" from as far back as 2015, and it contains ten songs for the duration of seventy-seven copious minutes of music. In order to reach certain emotional levels, one needs marked arrangements and thus more care for instrumentation, which is precisely why Earthside enlists the collaboration of special guests, who in this case answer to the names of Sandbox (percussion), Keturah (vocals), Pritam Adhikary (lead vocals), AJ Channer (lead vocals), Larry Braggs (lead vocals), Sam Gendel (tenor saxophone), VikKe (vocals), Duo Scorpio (harp), Gennady Tachenko-Papizh (vocals), Daniel Tompkins (lead vocals), and Baard Kolstad (drums).
The past is not forgotten; there are even arpeggios reminiscent of 1970s Genesis, a testament to the fact that to know where to go, one must always know where one comes from; this is how evolution actually has a future. To the connoisseurs I say that there is a lot of Post-Djent in this music.
If even today you hear people say there is nothing new anymore, it means they haven't heard Earthside. Let's not be caught unprepared, evolution may or may not like it, yet it exists inexorably, and the New England-based band is part of a new scene full of creativity and good instrumental technique. A complex, brave record, ethereal at times, then nervous, hypnotic, dreamy, horrorific, psychedelic, just to name a few adjectives that come to mind while listening.
If you love strong emotions, then "Let The Truth Speak" is for you, but beware, one compulsorily needs repeated listening to fully enjoy its meaning; it is not music to be listened to superficially.
My hope now is that I will not have to wait another nine years to listen to a new work, I am beginning to be of a certain age and still have the intact desire to be amazed, because that is the key to life: amazement.
