Esiste un limbo sonoro che si trova a cavallo fra il Progressive Rock e il Progressive Metal, questo si chiama Heavy Prog Rock. Il pubblico che lo segue non è numerosissimo, ma di certo ama la musica passata ed è un fans che non si lascia scappare nulla dell’ambito, un vero e proprio estimatore fedele. Personalmente sono anch’io un amante di queste sonorità, in quanto ritengo che per esprimere certi concetti a volte bisogna alzare i toni, osare e perché no anche destabilizzare, magari attraverso passaggi strumentali ricchi di cambi di tempo e assolo fulminanti. Il Prog invece attenua i toni con eleganza. Posso paragonare il genere a un evidenziatore che risalta l’importanza dei testi, sappiamo poi che il Rock in senso generale è viatico di protesta.
Veniamo ora a conoscenza di un nuovo gruppo italiano del circuito, gli Amanti Di Nefasto che esordiscono con un EP dal titolo omonimo formato da quattro brani. Oggi sono un trio, e di certo i nomi non suoneranno nuovi a chi segue la musica Prog Rock italiana, Stefano Diamanti, voce ed ex membro fondatore degli Abstracta (Elevate Records, 1998), Andrea Arcangeli, bassista dei DGM e dei Noveria, e il polistrumentista/compositore Luca Gaigher, italiano residente a Parigi. L’intento è di dare uno sguardo al passato, per la precisione verso gli anni ’70, il tutto ovviamente modificato attraverso le annose esperienze dei musicisti tenutesi con i relativi gruppi citati.
L’apertura spetta ai cinque minuti abbondanti di “Dinosauri” e alla voce descrittiva dell’immortale Piero Angela che spiega l’esistenza di questi atavici animali. Subito si è avvolti da ritmiche possenti e riff taglienti mentre il cantato si barcamena ottimamente tra musicalità piacevole e andamento cadenzato. Bello il finale strumentale su cambi di ritmo dove le tastiere arrangiano a dovere il tutto. Più ricercata e curata “L’Enigma”, dove il pianoforte inizia il viaggio che lascia presto il passo alla ritmica nuovamente possente e decisa. Da sottolineare la struttura armonica che molto spesso si affianca alla formula canzone e l’assolo di chitarra di certo non banale.
“Ricca Colazione” è giocosa nell’intento di augurare una splendida giornata attraverso un buon cornetto, un cappuccino e perché no anche uno zabaglione. Il brano si presta sicuramente a una perfetta riuscita in sede live, con tanto di battiti di mano a seguire il ritmo, proprio come fanno gli autori stessi nel brano.
Il quarto e ultimo brano porta il titolo “Zolfo 24”, la strumentazione in questo caso ha sonorità moderne, anche se l’intento è sempre quello di aggirarsi intorno a certe soluzioni passate. Buona la prova vocale e la qualità sonora della registrazione di tutto l’ep.
Questo non è altro che un aperitivo in attesa di un album vero e proprio, chiaramente le basi per fare bene ci sono tutte, non stiamo parlando ovviamente degli ultimi arrivati, gli Amanti Di Nefasto sanno il fatto loro. Lasciatevi trasportare. MS

There is a sonic limbo that straddles the line between Progressive Rock and Progressive Metal, this is called Heavy Prog Rock. The audience that follows it is not huge, but they certainly love past music and are fans who don't let anything in the sphere pass them by, a true loyal admirer. Personally, I am also a lover of these sounds, as I believe that in order to express certain concepts sometimes it is necessary to raise the tones, dare and why not even destabilize, perhaps through instrumental passages rich in tempo changes and lightning-fast solos. Prog, on the other hand, softens the tone with elegance. I can compare the genre to a highlighter that highlights the importance of lyrics, we know then that Rock in a general sense is viaticum of protest.
We now learn about a new Italian band on the circuit, Amanti Di Nefasto, who make their debut with a self-titled EP consisting of four tracks. They are a trio, and certainly the names will not sound new to those who follow Italian Prog Rock music, Stefano Diamanti, vocalist and former founding member of Abstracta (Elevate Records, 1998), Andrea Arcangeli, bassist of DGM and Noveria, and multi-instrumentalist/composer Luca Gaigher, an Italian living in Paris. The intent is to give a glimpse into the past, to be precise toward the 1970s, all obviously modified through the musicians' long-standing experiences held with the relevant groups mentioned.
The opening is up to the good five minutes of "Dinosauri" and the descriptive voice of the immortal Piero Angela explaining the existence of these atavistic animals. Immediately one is enveloped by mighty rhythms and sharp riffs while the vocals juggle excellently between pleasant musicality and cadenced progression. Beautiful is the instrumental ending on changes of rhythm where the keyboards properly arrange the whole thing. More refined and cared for is "L’Enigma", where the piano begins the journey that soon gives way to the rhythmic again powerful and decisive. Worth noting is the harmonic structure that very often complements the song formula and the certainly not trivial guitar solo.
"Ricca Colazione" is playful in its intent to wish you a wonderful day through a good croissant, cappuccino and why not even a zabaglione. The song certainly lends itself to perfect live performance, complete with handclaps to follow the beat, just as the songwriters themselves do in the track.
The fourth and final track bears the title "Zolfo 24", the instrumentation in this case has modern sounds, although the intent is always to hover around certain past solutions. Good vocal evidence and the sound quality of the recording of the whole ep.
This is nothing more than an appetizer waiting for a proper album, clearly the foundations to do well are all there, we are obviously not talking about the latest arrivals, Amanti Di Nefasto know their stuff. Get carried away. MS
