Ritrovo i toscani Trauma Forward dopo il buon debutto del 2016 intitolato “Scars” (Scars
LM European Music), primo episodio dell’annunciata trilogia concept iniziata con l’argomento uomo manichino, dove in esso ci s’interroga su “Che cosa è dato conoscere di noi stessi”. In questo secondo capitolo “Aesthesys” riguardante il quesito “Che cosa è dato conoscere del mondo esterno?”, siamo al cospetto di un mutamento di line up, M. De Palma non è più parte della band, al suo posto al clarinetto e alle chitarre milita dal 2017 Francesco Presentini. A completare la band Francesco Lenzi (chitarra solista), Davide Lucioli (pianoforte, pianoforte elettrico), e Jacopo Bucciantini (basso, batteria).
Sotto l’attenta direzione artistica dell’inesauribile Fabio Zuffanti, i Trauma Forwards proseguono il cammino sonoro intrapreso negli anni toccando stili come il Progressive Rock, l’ambient, la World Music e l’Elettronica.
Il protagonista del misterioso viaggio nel mondo esterno attraverso tredici brani, s’interfaccia con diversi protagonisti che alla fine lo conducono a un’ennesima riflessione che sarà approfondita nel futuro terzo concept, “Febris” ossia “Che cosa è dato conoscere di Dio?”. Per completare l’opera i Trauma Forward si avvalgono della collaborazione di differenti special guest di talento quali Ciccio Li Causi, Fabio Zuffanti, Darmabams, Leon Seti, Leonardo Ricci e Francesco Lenzi, e altri ancora.
Il concept filosofico si apre attraverso “Neon Shurbs”, una composizione articolata in cui le chitarre arpeggiate alla Ivan Graziani lasciano un mondo progressivo intriso di passato per poi procedere attraverso una sostenuta ritmica moderna, verso un Rock elettrico e voce narrante in lingua inglese. Per non farsi mancare nulla si possono scorgere attraverso i fiati richiami al Krautrock. “My Mind Circle” è uno strumentale accessibile per tutti i gusti, semplice e diretto pur non essendo privo di cambi di ritmo dove la chitarra elettrica riesce a lanciarsi in un tema altamente piacevole. Il piano apre “Heat, Crisis And Pain”, non tanto per il titolo quanto per il clarinetto, mi rammentano scenari incontrati nel mondo dei Supertramp per poi sviluppare l’andamento nel pieno stile Progressive Rock.
Fra i pezzi maggiormente riusciti dell’album cito anche “Light On / Yellow Key” per gusto della melodia e cambio stile, “Gate In Sight” per i cori onirici a molte voci, la Neo Prog “Rendezvous” con voce femminile, “Forsaken Thought” per la qualità dell’esecuzione e gli arrangiamenti e la conclusiva “A Feelingless Afternoon”, una sorta di riassunto dell’anima Trauma Forward.
La ricerca delle composizioni, la buona tecnica degli strumentisti e una scelta di guardare il mondo del Prog anche in chiave più moderna pur dimostrando di aver assimilato gli insegnamenti del passato, fanno di “Aesthesys” un album piacevole, un passo in avanti rispetto al precedente “Scars”. Difficile trovare una pecca vera e propria, magari avrei preferito una migliore incisione visto che in alcuni passaggi sembra lasciare alcuni strumenti troppo nello sfondo, ma questo è un mio gusto personale.
Non resta che attendere “Febris” a conclusione della trilogia, intanto godiamoci alla grande questo disco che di spunti interessanti ne ha a profusione, di sicuro la noia qui non è di casa. MS

I meet again the Tuscan Trauma Forward after the good 2016 debut titled "Scars" (Scars
LM European Music), the first episode of the announced concept trilogy that began with the mannequin man topic, where in it we question "What is given to know about ourselves." In this second chapter "Aesthesys" concerning the question "What is given to know about the outside world?", we are in the presence of a line up change, M. De Palma is no longer part of the band, in his place on clarinet and guitars militates since 2017 Francesco Presentini. Completing the band are Francesco Lenzi (lead guitar), Davide Lucioli (piano, electric piano), and Jacopo Bucciantini (bass, drums).
Under the careful artistic direction of the inexhaustible Fabio Zuffanti, Trauma Forwards continue the sonic path taken over the years touching styles such as Progressive Rock, ambient, World Music and Electronic. The protagonist of the mysterious journey in the outside world through thirteen tracks, interfaces with different protagonists who eventually lead him to yet another reflection that will be deepened in the future third concept, "Febris" or "What is given to know about God?" To complete the work, Trauma Forward draws on the collaboration of different talented special guests such as Ciccio Li Causi, Fabio Zuffanti, Darmabams, Leon Seti, Leonardo Ricci and Francesco Lenzi, and others.
The philosophical concept opens through "Neon Shurbs," an articulate composition in which Ivan Graziani-esque arpeggiated guitars leave a progressive world steeped in the past and then proceed through sustained modern rhythmic, to an electric Rock and English-language narrated vocals. Not to be missed, hints of Krautrock can be discerned through the horns. "My Mind Circle" is an accessible instrumental for all tastes, simple and straightforward while not lacking in rhythm changes where the electric guitar manages to launch into a highly enjoyable theme. The piano opens "Heat, Crisis And Pain," not so much for the title as for the clarinet, reminding me of scenarios encountered in the world of Supertramp and then developing the trend in full Progressive Rock style.
Among the most successful pieces of the album I also mention "Light On / Yellow Key" for taste of melody and change of style, "Gate In Sight" for the dreamy choruses in many voices, the Neo Prog "Rendezvous" with female vocals, "Forsaken Thought" for the quality of execution and arrangements and the concluding "A Feelingless Afternoon," a kind of summary of the Trauma Forward soul.
The research of the compositions, the good technique of the instrumentalists and a choice to look at the world of Prog also in a more modern key while showing that they have assimilated the teachings of the past, make "Aesthesys" an enjoyable album, a step forward from the previous "Scars." Hard to find a real flaw, maybe I would have preferred a better recording since in some passages it seems to leave some instruments too much in the background, but this is my personal taste.
All that remains is to wait for "Febris" to conclude the trilogy, in the meantime let's enjoy to the fullest this record that has interesting cues in profusion, surely boredom is not at home here. MS
