I musicisti che provengono dai lontani anni ’60 hanno un amore incredibile per la musica Rock, un attenzione per le melodie accurata e tanto bagaglio culturale al riguardo davvero invidiabile. Spesso ci siamo imbattuti in lavori unici, gruppi da un disco e via, ma tutti con l’intenta volontà di dire qualcosa di esclusivo e personale al riguardo. In quegli anni l’individuo è stato al centro dell’interesse, così la volontà di emergere per quello che si è, non per piacere agli altri.
Una storia al riguardo proviene da La Spezia, con i Magia Nera. La band verso la fine degli anni ’60 si chiamava Nuova Esperienza, soltanto nel 1969 decisero di cambiare il nome per dedicarsi ad un Hard Rock di voga in stile Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep e Deep Purple. Purtroppo non registrarono nulla di ufficiale, malgrado avessero un contratto con l’etichetta Magma Records, soltanto date live compresi festival come il Free Festival Pop di Bottagna. I Magia Nera si sciolgono per poi ritornare quarant’anni dopo in formazione quasi ufficiale sull’onda del rientro del genere. Nel 2017 la band del leader  Bruno Cencetti (voce e chitarra) esordisce ufficialmente con “L’Ultima Danza Di Ophelia” (Akarma Records) per poi replicare nel 2020 con l’ottimo “Montecristo” (Ma. Ra. Cash. Records), concept ispirato dal romanzo di Alexandre Dumas.
Cencetti ha una voce unica, calda, profonda, graffiante e il chitarrista la sa adoperare alla perfezione per immergere l’ascoltatore nel concept attraverso enfasi e tratti quasi recitati. Per la scena italica è un caso più unico che raro.
Oggi sotto il mirino dei Magia Nera ricade un altro famoso romanzo, Dracula scritto dall'irlandese Bram Stoker nel 1897, nel disco intitolato “Vlad”. Inutile descrivere le vicissitudini del conte impalatore, oramai trattate in lungo ed in largo su serie tv, film, dischi etc, perfino la rinomata Premiata Forneria Marconi ne fece album nel 2005.
La storia è dunque struggente e necessita di un Rock relativo alle ambientazioni e qui la band composta oggi da Bruno Cencetti, Alfredo Peghini (basso), Alvaro Lazzini (batteria), e Luca Tommasi (tastiere), mette a disposizione tutta l’annosa esperienza per raggiungere un obbiettivo quantomeno intrigante.
Tratti dell’ascolto li ho affrontati ad occhi chiusi, le atmosfere create dalla chitarra di Cencetti e la suddetta voce, mi ha accalappiato dentro come nell’iniziale “La Protogenesi”, passaggio nel cantautorato passato e di classe, territorio per solo pochi addetti.
Il Rock si manifesta a partire da “Vlad Il Condottiero”, un tuffo nel vintage grazie soprattutto alle tastiere Hammond di Tommasi, un transito nel mondo dei Moody Blues, ma quando la chitarra elettrica si lancia nell’assolo, il piacere è totale. Un perfetto mix fra Prog e Rock. Un ululato immerge l’ascoltatore nelle atmosfere cupe di “Ali Nel Buio” dove il protagonista è in cerca di sangue, i ritmi cambiano e si adoperano a seconda dei testi. Un iniziale passaggio nella musica etnica, anche se di schiaffo, lo si ha attraverso “Dolce Sentire”, brano Hard Rock nel proseguo, orecchiabile e trascinante, immaginate con la fantasia di ascoltare i Nomadi intenti a suonare Hard Rock. La band espone la muscolatura di cui è composta nel pezzo “Amore Di Una Notte”, alternando momenti pacati ad altri infuocati. Qui la chicca sonora proviene dal pianoforte e voce. Incedere “Carmina Burana” di Carl Orff  in “Freddo Sacello” e la canzone si mixa in un Rock Progressivo graffiante, orecchiabile e ancora una volta impreziosito da un bel solo di chitarra e tastiera.
“Frassino Nel Cuore” oltre che il titolo del penultimo brano è anche la soluzione definitiva contro il buon vecchio vampiro, qui ritorna il cantautorato. “Atto Finale” è una piccola opera Rock che da sola vale l’acquisto del disco.
“Vlad” è un disco da non lasciarsi scappare, soprattutto se si è amanti della musica vintage, oggi è sempre un piacere ascoltarla visto che siamo immersi in un mondo di sporcizia sonora. Immaginate di aprire le finestre in una stanza dall'aria consumata. MS

Musicians from back in the 60's have an incredible love for Rock music, an attention to accurate melodies and a lot of cultural baggage about it that is truly enviable. We often came across one-off works, one-disc bands, but all with the intent to say something exclusive and personal about it. In those years the individual was the focus of interest, so was the will to stand out for who one is, not to please others.
One story in this regard comes from La Spezia, with Magia Nera. The band in the late 1960s was called New Experience, only in 1969 did they decide to change the name to focus on vogue Hard Rock in the style of Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep and Deep Purple. Unfortunately they did not record anything official, despite having a contract with the Magma Records label, only live dates including festivals such as the Free Festival Pop in Bottagna.
Magia Nera disbanded only to return forty years later in almost official formation on the wave of the genre's comeback. In 2017 the band of leader Bruno Cencetti (vocals and guitar) made its official debut with "L'Ultima Danza Di Ophelia" (Akarma Records) and then replicated in 2020 with the excellent "Montecristo" (Ma. Ra. Cash. Records), a concept inspired by the novel by Alexandre Dumas.
Cencetti has a unique, warm, deep, scratchy voice, and the guitarist knows how to use it to perfection to immerse the listener in the concept through emphasis and almost recited stretches. For the Italic scene this is more unique than rare.
Today under the sights of Magia Nera falls another famous novel, Dracula written by Irishman Bram Stoker in 1897, in the album entitled "Vlad." Needless to describe the vicissitudes of the impaling count, by now covered far and wide on TV series, movies, records etc, even the renowned Premiata Forneria Marconi made an album of it in 2005.
The story is therefore poignant and in need of a Rock relative to the settings, and here the band composed today of Bruno Cencetti, Alfredo Peghini (bass), Alvaro Lazzini (drums), and Luca Tommasi (keyboards), puts all the years of experience at their disposal to achieve a goal that is at least intriguing.
Portions of the listening I tackled them with my eyes closed, the atmospheres created by Cencetti's guitar and the aforementioned voice, captivated me inside as in the opening "La Protogenesi," a passage into the past and classy songwriting, territory for only a few insiders.
Rock manifests itself starting with "Vlad The Condottiero," a dip into vintage thanks mainly to Tommasi's Hammond keyboards, a transit into the world of the Moody Blues, but when the electric guitar launches into the solo, the pleasure is total. A perfect mix of Prog and Rock. A howl plunges the listener into the gloomy atmospheres of "Wings In The Dark," where the protagonist is out for blood, the rhythms change and operate according to the lyrics. An initial transition into ethnic music, albeit slapstick, is had through "Dolce Sentire," a Hard Rock song in the continuation, catchy and dragging, imagine with your imagination listening to Nomads intent on playing Hard Rock. The band exposes their musculature in the song "Amore Di Una Notte," alternating between quiet and fiery moments. . Here the sonic treat comes from piano and vocals. Incedere Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" in "Freddo Sacello" and the song mixes into scratchy, catchy Progressive Rock and once again embellished with a nice guitar and keyboard solo.
"Frassino Nel Cuore" as well as the title of the penultimate track is also the ultimate solution against good old Vampire, here the songwriting returns. "Atto Finale" is a little Rock opera that alone is worth the purchase of the record.
"Vlad" is a record not to be missed, especially if you are a lover of vintage music, nowadays it is always a pleasure to listen to it since we are immersed in a world of sonic filth. Imagine opening the windows in a room with worn air. MS
