La Germania ha sempre dimostrato nel tempo di essere una nazione molto attenta al fenomeno Progressivo in senso generale, un occhio di riguardo è rivolto maggiormente al Neo Prog attraverso una lunga sequenza di band. Fra i nomi più importanti si possono citare i RPWL, Argos, Bel Air, Blind Ego, Chandelier, Eyesberg, Morphelia, Pandoras Box, Saris, Seven Steps To The Green Door, Shamall, Subsignal, Violet District e The Wow, questa lista la stilo solamente per chi, più curioso di voi, volesse approfondire la scena. I The Anchestry Program (TAP), si fondano a Monaco circa nel 2019. Tre gli album in studio compresa questa seconda parte di “On Silent Mammalia”, che inizia con “Tomorrow” (FreiBad Schallplatten & Musikverlag) nel 2020.
L’artwork con il colore giallo predominante, richiama palesemente la prima parte di quest’opera, con un paesaggio futuristico abitato da balene volanti. L’edizione cartonata è molto curata, apribile in quattro facciate e contenente un libretto abbondante con foto, testi e credits. La band oggi cambia elementi e si allarga diventando un sestetto, il bassista Marco Osmajic sostituisce Frank Thumbach mentre Mike Voglmeier (chitarra e voci), si unisce al progetto. Così la formazione odierna: Andy Lind (batteria, cori), Mani Gruber (chitarra, cori), Mike Voglmeier (chitarra, cori), Ben Knabe (voce, chitarra), Marco Osmajic (basso) e Thomas Burlefinger (tastiere, cori). Si circondano anche di special guest grazie all’ex Sieges Even Wolfang Zenk (solo chitarra in “Ancestor”), Tom Reinbrecht (sax in “Path On Inspiration”), Reinhard Greiner (tromba in “Path On Inspiration” e “Create Our Sin”), Petra Amasreiter (violino in “War Is Over”), Emil Bekir (violoncello in “Pangreta’s Box) e Klaus Filser (violino e viola in “Pangreta’s Box).
Il disco ha dieci tracce in cui escluse l’intro “Mysticeti Ambassador… “ e l’outro “… Of Silent Mammalia”, rispettivamente della durata più ridotta di due e quasi quattro minuti, le altre si aggirano tutte attorno ai sette minuti, a conferma di una struttura Progressiva onorata.
La musica è molto curata negli arrangiamenti e la buona incisione esalta tutta la riuscita di questo disco che farà sicuramente la gioia degli amanti del Neo Prog. Numerosi i punti d’ispirazione che fanno di “On Silent Mammalia Pt II” un disco aperto a ogni soluzione, si possono estrapolare influenze Arena, Ayreon, Pink Floyd, Queen, Savatage, Genesis, IQ e molti altri, a testimonianza di un’ampia cultura musicale da parte dei componenti.
Ed è L’intro “Mysticeti Ambassador…” a condurci in questo mondo fantastico, fra effetti elettronici e un cantato al limite del recitato, proprio come la band Ayreon dell’olandese Lucassen ha rilasciato negli anni. I giochi si aprono ufficialmente con “Path Of Inspiration” e i fiati che chiamano a raccolta le ritmiche precise, dove le tastiere ricoprono un ruolo quasi vintage. Il suono s’indurisce attraverso un riff metallico cadenzato che si alterna a fasi maggiormente allegre. Il pregio di questa musica è l’insieme sonoro atto ad alzare un muro ricco di particolari tutti da scoprire. Si entra nel Neo Prog in “Pangreta’s Box”, altro movimento ricco di effetti (anche vocali) e cambi umorali sino addirittura giungere a un metallico growl sussurrato. Dissonanze sono proposte attraverso gli archi, mentre il ritornello potrebbe benissimo risiedere nella discografia degli inglesi IQ. Durante l’ascolto si ha, in effetti, la sensazione di essere sorvolati da balene spaziali, le atmosfere hanno numerosi cambi repentini e comunque sempre a disposizione della fantasia. Ottimo anche l’assolo strumentale della chitarra. “War Is Over” ha un’attenzione maggiore per gli anni ’70, “Maria’s Smile” con quasi nove minuti di durata, è la canzone più lunga dell’album ed è anche una delle canzoni che ho maggiormente apprezzato di più, grazie ad alcune atmosfere a tratti psichedeliche riconducibili al mondo dei Pink Floyd. Una sorta di ballata sentita e a effetto con un assolo finale di chitarra struggente. E siamo solo alla metà del viaggio, dove le polveri sono ulteriormente accese da “Ancestors”, vetrina per le qualità balistiche di Andy Lind. Altro elevato momento emotivo, giunge da “Star To Follow”, un’altalena di sensazioni che fanno sempre capo a un buon songwriting oltre che a influenze New Wave anni ’80. “Paranoid Structures” cambia nuovamente rotta per mettere in luce le qualità tecniche dei singoli componenti, a seguire “Create Our Sins”, dove il cantato ricorda ancora una volta quello di Paul Menel del periodo IQ della fine anni ’80. Solare il finale “… Of Silent Mammalia”, rispetto a tutto il materiale ascoltato questo è decisamente il più vicino alla semplice formula canzone, ma una menzione a parte va al solo di chitarra, un'altra volta molto efficace.
“On Silent Mammalia Pt II” è un disco totale, in cui l’insieme si muove senza momenti di stanca, le sorprese sono sempre dietro l’angolo, mentre il gusto per le melodie sono un’altra carta vincente di quest’opera che consiglio caldamente a tutti gli amanti della musica in senso generale. Germany has always shown over time that it is a nation very attentive to the Progressive phenomenon in a general sense, an eye is turned more to Neo Prog through a long sequence of bands. Among the most prominent names are RPWL, Argos, Bel Air, Blind Ego, Chandelier, Eyesberg, Morphelia, Pandoras Box, Saris, Seven Steps To The Green Door, Shamall, Subsignal, Violet District and The Wow, this list I am only compiling for those more curious than you who would like to delve into the scene. The Anchestry Program (TAP), was founded in Munich circa 2019. Three studio albums including this second part of "On Silent Mammalia," beginning with "Tomorrow" (FreiBad Schallplatten & Musikverlag) in 2020. The artwork with the predominant color yellow, blatantly recalls the first part of this work, with a futuristic landscape inhabited by flying whales. The hardback edition is highly edited, opening four sides and containing an abundant booklet with photos, lyrics and credits.
The band today changes elements and expands to become a sextet, bassist Marco Osmajic replaces Frank Thumbach while Mike Voglmeier (guitar and vocals), joins the project. Thus today's lineup: Andy Lind (drums, backing vocals), Mani Gruber (guitar, backing vocals), Mike Voglmeier (guitar, backing vocals), Ben Knabe (vocals, guitar), Marco Osmajic (bass) and Thomas Burlefinger (keyboards, backing vocals). They also surround themselves with special guests thanks to former Sieges Even Wolfang Zenk (guitar only in "Ancestor"), Tom Reinbrecht (saxophone in "Path On Inspiration"), Reinhard Greiner (trumpet in "Path On Inspiration" and "Create Our Sin"), Petra Amasreiter (violin in "War Is Over"), Emil Bekir (cello in "Pangreta's Box) and Klaus Filser (violin and viola in "Pangreta's Box).
The disc has ten tracks in which excluding the intro "Mysticeti Ambassador... " and the outro "... Of Silent Mammalia," respectively of the shorter duration of two and almost four minutes, the others all hover around seven minutes, confirming an honored Progressive structure. The music is very well cared for in the arrangements and the good recording enhances the whole success of this record that will surely delight Neo Prog lovers. Numerous points of inspiration make "On Silent Mammalia Pt II" an album open to every solution, one can extrapolate Arena, Ayreon, Pink Floyd, Queen, Savatage, Genesis, IQ and many other influences, testifying to a broad musical culture on the part of the components.
And it is THE intro "Mysticeti Ambassador..." that leads us into this fantasy world, amid electronic effects and borderline recitative singing, just as Dutch Lucassen's band Ayreon has released over the years. The games officially open with "Path Of Inspiration" and horns calling out the precise rhythms, where keyboards play an almost vintage role. The sound hardens through a cadenced metal riff that alternates with more upbeat phases. The merit of this music is the sonic ensemble apt to raise a wall full of details all to be discovered. We enter Neo Prog in "Pangreta's Box," another movement full of effects (also vocal) and mood changes until even reaching a metallic whispered growl. Dissonances are offered through strings, while the refrain could well reside in the discography of the British IQ. During the listening one has, indeed, the feeling of being flown over by space whales, the atmospheres have numerous sudden changes and yet always available to the imagination. The instrumental guitar solo is also excellent. "War Is Over" has a greater focus on the 1970s, "Maria's Smile," at nearly nine minutes in length, is the longest song on the album and is also one of the songs I enjoyed the most, thanks to some at times psychedelic atmospheres that can be traced back to the world of Pink Floyd. A kind of heartfelt and affecting ballad with a poignant final guitar solo. And we are only halfway through, where the dust is further ignited by "Ancestors," a showcase for Andy Lind's ballistic qualities. Another elevated emotional moment, comes from "Star To Follow," a seesaw of sensations that always point to good songwriting as well as 80s New Wave influences. "Paranoid Structures" changes course again to highlight the technical qualities of the individual members, followed by "Create Our Sins," where the singing is again reminiscent of Paul Menel's from the IQ period of the late 1980s.

Of Silent Mammalia," compared to all the material heard this is definitely the closest to the simple song formula, but a separate mention goes to the guitar solo, again very effective.
"On Silent Mammalia Pt II" is a total record, in which the whole moves along without any tired moments, surprises are always just around the corner, while the taste for melodies are another trump card of this work that I highly recommend to all music lovers in a general sense. Excellent. MS
