L’era della Psichedelia Rock si è sviluppata fra gli anni ’60 e ’70. Come gruppi storici portabandiera possiamo citare i Pink Floyd o i Doors solo per fare due nomi famosi. In realtà le basi provengono dai Beatles e quell’album “Revolver” del 1966 che ha lasciato un segno indelebile nel Rock. Da qui le varianti prendono diverse strade e forme, ad esempio in Europa il Krautrock tedesco sforna gruppi interessanti come i Can, i primi Kraftwerk o i Neu!. E oggi? Il discorso è similare a quello del Rock Progressive, ossia sopravvive fra difficoltà, ma è sempre cibo per un affamata cerchia di fans pronta ad accaparrarsi gelosamente i suoni di un nuovo gruppo. Bene, quindi detto questo, già consiglio agli amanti del genere di segnare il nome dei marchigiani Palmer Generator. Per dovere di cronaca devo segnalare che nella musica proposta risiedono anche sonorità moderne Post Rock.
Sono una famiglia nel puro senso del termine, padre, figlio e zio composti da Michele Palmieri (basso), Mattia Palmieri (batteria) e Tommaso Palmieri (chitarra). Si fondano a Jesi nel 2010 e a oggi registrano quattro lavori in studio, compreso questo “Ventre”. Gli album passati s’intitolano “Shapes” (2014 – Red Sound Records), “Discipline” (2016 – Astio Collettivo, Torango) e “Natura” (2018 – Bloody Sound Fucktory, Brigadisco) oltre che partecipare a uno Split assieme ai The Great Saunites nel 2020 intitolato “PGTGS” (Bloody Sound Fucktory, Brigadisco, Il Verso Del Cinghiale).
La musica psichedelica, si sa, è cibo per la mente, però anche il ventre può dire la propria, inteso come primo luogo in cui si fa comparsa su questa terra. Dice la band: “Il dualismo mente-corpo viene superato nell’immagine del ventre, lo stomaco considerato come un secondo cervello, come il luogo in cui avviene la sintesi fra spirito e materia”.
L’album è formato da quattro tracce per un percorso, dove spesso l’ascolto richiede  silenzio con annessa chiusura degli occhi.
Il brano “I” è il più breve con quattro minuti di Post Rock incentrato su una ritmica ricercata, un buon colloquio fra basso e batteria, ma il trip vero e proprio incomincia attraverso “II”, qui la chitarra grazie ad effetti costruisce un cono sonoro ipnotico in un crescendo che vede l’inesorabile ingresso degli altri strumenti. Questa musica non punta ad assolo strumentali bensì si avvinghia attorno a soluzioni ripetitive come hanno saputo fare ad esempio certi King Crimson in un periodo della loro splendida carriera. Lo scopo di questi suoni è quello di creare atmosfere eteree ma anche nervose, nulla da fischiettare, solo un mezzo di locomozione per lanciarsi verso la fantasia.
Inizio pacato sul suono del basso in “III”, strumentale più lungo dell’album grazie ai quindici minuti complessivi di durata. I Palmer Generator tendono a farti stampare nella mente un certo giro sonoro per poi svilupparlo nel corso del viaggio attraverso cambi di ritmo e d’umore. Effetti eco rendono tutto maggiormente ampio. In questo brano  fuoriesce allo scoperto  la vera anima del trio.
Infine è la batteria ad aprire “IV”, questo estratto è articolato rispetto i precedenti con l’innesto di differenti soluzioni e cambi di ritmo, pur restando avvinghiato alle pennate insistenti della chitarra.
L’artwork molto semplice e diretto è realizzato da Mattia Palmieri, proprio come questa musica priva d’inutili orpelli, nuda e cruda quanto basta per esprimere il concetto emotivo del tema.
Di certo non vibriamo tutti nella stessa maniera, questa musica non è adatta per tutte le menti, ma solo per quelle aperte che hanno voglia di farsi di tanto in tanto un bel trip. MS

The era of Rock Psychedelia developed between the 1960s and 1970s. As historical standard-bearer groups we can mention Pink Floyd or the Doors just to name two famous names. Actually the basis comes from the Beatles and that 1966 album "Revolver" that left an indelible mark on Rock. From there the variations take different paths and forms, for example in Europe German Krautrock churns out interesting groups like Can, early Kraftwerk or Neu!!. And today? The discourse is similar to that of Progressive Rock, i.e., it survives among difficulties, but it is always food for a hungry circle of fans ready to jealously hoard the sounds of a new group. Well, so having said that, already I recommend that fans of the genre mark the name of the Marche-based Palmer Generator. For the sake of the record, I must point out that modern Post Rock sounds also reside in the music on offer.
They are a family in the purest sense of the word, father, son and uncle consisting of Michele Palmieri (bass), Mattia Palmieri (drums) and Tommaso Palmieri (guitar). They were founded in Jesi in 2010 and to date have recorded four studio works, including this "Ventre." Past albums are titled "Shapes" (2014 - Red Sound Records), "Discipline" (2016 - Astio Collettivo, Torango) and "Natura" (2018 - Bloody Sound Fucktory, Brigadisco) as well as participating in a Split together with The Great Saunites in 2020 titled "PGTGS" (Bloody Sound Fucktory, Brigadisco, Il Verso Del Cinghiale).
Psychedelic music, it is known, is food for the mind, however, the belly can also have a say, understood as the first place where one makes an appearance on this earth. Says the band, "The mind-body dualism is overcome in the image of the belly, the stomach considered as a second brain, as the place where the synthesis between spirit and matter takes place.".
The album consists of four tracks for a journey, where listening often requires silence with attached closing of the eyes.
The track "I" is the shortest with four minutes of Post Rock centered on a refined rhythm, a good conversation between bass and drums, but the real trip begins through "II," here the guitar thanks to effects builds a hypnotic sound cone in a crescendo that sees the inexorable entry of the other instruments. This music does not aim at instrumental solos but rather wraps itself around repetitive solutions as, for example, certain King Crimson were able to do during a period of their splendid career. The purpose of these sounds is to create ethereal but also jittery atmospheres, nothing to whistle about, just a means of locomotion to launch into fantasy.
Calm beginning on the bass sound in "III," the longest instrumental on the album thanks to its total duration of fifteen minutes.
The Palmer Generators tend to get a certain sound turn stamped in your mind and then develop it over the course of the journey through changes of rhythm and mood. Echo effects make everything more expansive. In this track the trio's true soul comes out into the open.
Finally, it is the drums that open "IV," this excerpt is articulated compared to the previous ones with the grafting of different solutions and changes of rhythm, while still clinging to the insistent guitar strokes.
The very simple and direct artwork is made by Mattia Palmieri, just like this music devoid of unnecessary frills, bare and raw enough to express the emotional concept of the theme.
We certainly do not all vibrate in the same way, this music is not suitable for all minds, but only for those open ones who feel like having a good trip from time to time. MS
