La vita si sa con gli anni ci procura segni sia nella mente sia nel corpo, le cosiddette esperienze che se non sono positive tentiamo di rimuovere. Questo non è sempre possibile, specialmente nel corpo e sfido conoscere qualcuno che non è orgoglioso di averle, esse stanno significando “sono vivo con le mie consapevolezze”. Questo concetto è trattato in un album di debutto di una band trevigiana che trapela il senso anche nel proprio nome, Scarled. Così spiega la bio della band: “ SCAR-LED, unione di “cicatrice” e “led”, vuole sintetizzare il pensiero per cui le cicatrici, intese sì come fisiche, ma in particolar modo nell'animo, siano qualcosa da non nascondere ma, anzi, da mostrare con orgoglio in quanto rappresentanti delle difficoltà attraversate e della crescita avvenuta.”.
 Pierfederico Duprè (voce, chitarra, basso, tastiere), Samuele Callegari (tastiere, synths, piano, flauto), e Milo Furlan (batteria) sono i nomi che compongono questo gruppo dedito a un misto di stili che vanno dal Rock anni ’80 alla Psichedelia, al vintage e sonorità più moderne vicine ai Porcupine Tree. Con le illustrazioni di LucyFaery e la grafica di Francesco Momi, il disco è contenuto in una confezione cartonata contenente anche il libretto in cui sono scritti i testi oltre che una foto psichedelica della band. Il disco è anticipato da tre singoli, “Moving”, “Factory” e “Owl Song” e tutti e tre potete vederli anche su You Tube (oltre che qui nel blog).
Le canzoni proposte hanno tutte una durata abbastanza breve, al massimo di quattro minuti, a testimonianza della volontà del trio di andare direttamente al sodo, senza perdersi in inutili fronzoli, e si evince immediatamente all’ascolto di “Morningstar”. La voce è calda, la musica ben registrata mostra la cura per gli arrangiamenti, mentre soavi arie lasciano l’ascoltatore sospeso con la fantasia.
Sale il ritmo attraverso “Burn It”, elementi elettronici avvicinano il sound alla New Wave anni ’80, le tastiere dunque sono in prima linea, mentre gli Scarled ancora una volta ricercano un ritornello gradevole da ascoltare.  Intimistica “Underwater”, quasi vicina al mondo dei No Man di Steven Wilson, musica inizialmente minimale per poi crescere durante il cammino. “Mind Flight” ha ritmo da vendere, altro brano da ballare vicino alla New Wave, anche se non priva di cambi tempo. Attraverso “Heal” andiamo a conoscere un altro aspetto del carattere del trio, una ballata toccante dove i Déjà vu sono presenti, ma trapelano un gusto per la melodia notevole. Psichedelia per “Lightbulb”, titolo familiare ai fans dei Porcupine Tree, in questo caso siamo di fronte ad uno strumentale d’effetto, dove il suono porta la mente a staccarsi dal suolo per intraprendere viaggi alati. Synths riportano la musica in un ambiente ballabile, “New Dawn” è in collaborazione con l’ospite High Flying mentre “Shine” è piano e voce, vicina al mondo dei Pink Floyd. Segue il primo singolo “Moving”, musica ancora una volta basata principalmente sui synth ma dall’animo sensibilmente dolce, difficile restare fermi durante l’ascolto. “Factory” mostra eleganza e si staglia nell’universo di Steven Wilson con rispetto e personalità. Chiude l’album il terzo singolo “Owl Song”, canzone energica che mette in mostra le capacità totali della band e ancora una volta la volontà di essere diretti e orecchiabili.
Gli Scarled sono quasi anomali nel mondo del Progressive Rock Italiano, unire ciò che ha fatto fermare nella fine degli anni ’70 il genere, ossia anche la New Wave, unendola alla psichedelia ha dell’inventiva, e il risultato è gradevole e non troppo impegnativo. Complimenti ai ragazzi in questione e li attendiamo avanti nuove prove per capire dove va a parare realmente il loro carattere. MS

Life you know with the years gives us marks in both mind and body, so-called experiences that if they are not positive we try to remove. This is not always possible, especially in the body and I defy to know anyone who is not proud to have them, they are signifying "I am alive with my awareness." This concept is covered in a debut album by a band from Treviso that leaks the meaning even in its own name, Scarled. This is how the band's bio explains it: " SCAR-LED, union of "scar" and "led," is meant to summarize the thought that scars, understood yes as physical, but especially in the soul, are something not to be hidden but, rather, to be shown with pride as representatives of the difficulties gone through and the growth that has occurred."
 Pierfederico Duprè (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards), Samuele Callegari (keyboards, synths, piano, flute), and Milo Furlan (drums) are the names that make up this group devoted to a mixture of styles ranging from 80s Rock to Psychedelia, vintage and more modern sounds close to Porcupine Tree. With illustrations by LucyFaery and artwork by Francesco Momi, the record is contained in a hardback package that also contains the booklet in which the lyrics are written as well as a psychedelic photo of the band. The record is anticipated by three singles, "Moving," "Factory" and "Owl Song," and all three can also be seen on You Tube (as well as here in the blog).
The songs on offer are all quite short in length, at most four minutes, a testament to the trio's willingness to cut straight to the chase, without getting lost in unnecessary frills, and it is immediately apparent upon listening to "Morningstar."
The vocals are warm, the well-recorded music shows care for arrangements, while suave tunes leave the listener suspended with imagination.
Picking up the pace through "Burn It," electronic elements bring the sound closer to 1980s New Wave, keyboards therefore are at the forefront, while the Scarled once again search for a chorus that is pleasant to listen to.  Intimate "Underwater," almost close to the world of Steven Wilson's No Man, music initially minimal and then growing along the way. "Mind Flight" has rhythm to spare, another dance track close to New Wave, though not without tempo changes. Through "Heal" we get to know another aspect of the trio's character, a touching ballad where Déjà vu is present but a remarkable taste for melody seeps through. Psychedelia for "Lightbulb," a title familiar to Porcupine Tree fans, in this case we are faced with an impressive instrumental where the sound takes the mind off the ground to embark on winged journeys. Synths bring the music back into a danceable setting, "New Dawn" is in collaboration with guest High Flying while "Shine" is piano and vocals, close to the world of Pink Floyd. The first single "Moving" follows, music once again mainly synth-based but with a noticeably sweet soul, hard to stay still while listening. "Factory" shows elegance and stands out in Steven Wilson's universe with respect and personality. Closing the album is the third single "Owl Song," an energetic song that showcases the band's total capabilities and once again their willingness to be direct and catchy.
The Scarled are almost anomalous in the world of Italian Progressive Rock, combining what made the genre stop in the late 1970s, that is, also New Wave, combining it with psychedelia has some inventiveness, and the result is pleasant and not too challenging. Kudos to the guys in question and we await them ahead new trials to see where their character really goes. MS
