On the road, il Rock va vissuto per strada! Il Rock è uno stile di vita e come tale va interpretato, chilometri e chilometri fra sudore e polvere per andare a suonare o semplicemente per vedere un concerto. Questo è uno stereotipo inflazionato direte voi, personalmente invece ritengo il genere sempre poco considerato soprattutto dai media, caso Måneskin a parte, una vampata di remake che solo il tempo a breve saprà dirci se è si è trattata semplicemente di un fuoco di paglia. Eppure di band impegnate nel nostro territorio ce ne sono moltissime, anche con un buon seguito conquistato prevalentemente in sede live. Un esempio lampante lo abbiamo con gli umbri GTO, quintetto oggi composto da Stefano Bucci (voce), Romano Novelli (Chitarra, mandola, cori), Luigi Bastianoni (fisarmonica, chitarra, voce, cori), Piero Passeri (basso), e Alessandro Bucci (batteria). Si formano nel 1993 e intraprendono presto la strada dei concerti che dona loro visione oltre che soddisfazioni, come nel caso del 1998 in cui vincono l’Arezzo Wave. Gli anni 2000 li trovano impegnati in un’interminabile serie di concerti e la discografia si fa nutrita, sei le registrazioni ufficiali, “The Best Of” (2000), “Gtoclub” (2002), “Gtospecial” (2007), “Mondiàl” (2010), “Little Italy” (2013), e “Super” (2018). Ci sono anche brani di successo, come nel caso di “Pellerossa” e “La Cimbolera”, utilizzati dal regista Michael Steike nella colonna sonora del telefilm tedesco “La Sposa”. Non mancano neppure passaggi alla RAI e alle radio più importanti del nostro stivale.
In quest’anno i GTO tirano le somme, mostrando i muscoli che si sono sviluppati in tutta questa palestra di vita, ossia un doppio cd di successi, con cover e brani inediti, una vera e propria scorpacciata di musica fra Rock, Folk, Pop e cantautoriale, il titolo è “Go GTO Go 1993-2023”.
Questo “best of” è composto da ben trentotto canzoni mentre la confezione si presenta cartonata, contenente le foto degli album, una narrazione degli intenti storici e tutte le descrizioni del caso. Il rosso è il colore che prevale, proprio come la passione che i musicisti mettono nelle loro composizioni.
Il primo disco inizia con la cover di “Rimmel”, successo di Francesco De Gregori, attraverso un andamento sia folk che Blues dove la voce di Bucci interpreta al meglio con personalità senza fare il verso al grande cantautore. Coralità per “Le Onde”, canzone allegra, diretta con un ritornello coinvolgente. Si viaggia nel mondo cantautoriale con riferimenti anni ’70 in “Montedoro” dove la fisarmonica pone un andamento sicuramente funzionale in sede live, da ballare e cantare. Non da meno “Festa” sempre gioiale e con una cadenza che richiama il migliore Fabrizio De Andrè. Inizio acustico per “Il Ragazzo E La Stella” dove i Modena City Ramblers sono tirati in ballo grazie anche all’uso del violino. Uno Ska accoglie l’ascolto nel brano “Il Mago”, i GTO si divertono a farci ballare e ci dimostrano che la musica è vita, oltre che voglia di stare assieme. Da sottolineare il brano conclusivo e inedito “Monica”, dove il Folk ritorna alla ribalta narrante una serata amichevole con la bella amica Monica.
Il secondo disco inizia con un altro inedito, “Tempesta Solare” e l’immancabile ritmo coinvolgente che caratterizza il sound della band. I GTO proseguono il cammino nella discografia con “Giorni”, dove al basso compare anche lo special guest Andrea Matteaggi, e proprio a proposito di ospiti qui in “Go GTO Go” ne troviamo davvero di numerosi: Ivan Birks al violino, Luca Canali alla voce nel brano “Mexican Border”, Steve Teckila (dj), Alberto Brizzi (organo), Marcella Benedetti (cori), Alessandra Chieli (cori), Claudia Bertoldi (cori), Simone Procelli (sax), Roberto “master” Gatti (percussioni), Pietro Fabbri (tastiere) e Leo “fresco” Beccafichi (fiati).  Tutto questo mette in luce la cura che la band apporta alle proprie composizioni con arrangiamenti efficaci.  Altra cover è “Johnny B. Goode” fatta in italiano, mentre “Mexican Border” è cantata in lingua inglese, e non manca una puntata nel mondo dei Negrita in “Freewheelin' Radio”. C’è anche il Reagge con “Rimini”, sole in testa e mare avanti gli occhi. I GTO sanno bene come intrattenere ma anche coccolare con canzoni delicate come ad esempio “Buonanotte Stella”.
“Go GTO Go 1993-2023” è una grande raccolta che racchiude davvero tutto il meglio di questa band che con professionalità ha dimostrato negli anni di meritarsi questa grande fetta di pubblico conquistata. Una immancabile occasione per gettarsi anima e corpo in questa calda musica colorata, amica anche di tante belle serate passate fra amici a divertirsi. MS

This is an overblown stereotype you will say, personally on the other hand I consider the genre always poorly considered especially by the media, Måneskin case aside, a flush of remakes that only time shortly will tell if it was simply a flash in the pan. Yet there are many bands engaged in our territory, even with a good following gained mainly in live performances. A prime example we have with the Umbrian GTO, a quintet today composed of Stefano Bucci (vocals), Romano Novelli (guitar, mandola, backing vocals), Luigi Bastianoni (accordion, guitar, vocals, backing vocals), Piero Passeri (bass), and Alessandro Bucci (drums). They formed in 1993 and soon embarked on the road of concerts that gave them vision as well as satisfaction, as in the case of 1998 when they won the Arezzo Wave. The 2000s find them engaged in an interminable series of concerts, and the discography becomes extensive, six official recordings, "The Best Of" (2000), "Gtoclub" (2002), "Gtospecial" (2007), "Mondiàl" (2010), "Little Italy" (2013), and "Super" (2018). There are also hit songs, as in the case of "Pellerossa" and "La Cimbolera," which were used by director Michael Steike in the soundtrack of the German TV show "The Bride." There is also no shortage of passages to RAI and the most important radio stations of our boot.In this year GTO pulls the sums, showing the muscles that have developed throughout this gymnasium of life, namely a double CD of hits, with covers and unreleased songs, a real binge of music between Rock, Folk, Pop and singer-songwriter, the title is "Go GTO Go 1993-2023". This "best of" consists of no less than thirty-eight songs while the packaging comes in hardback, containing photos of the albums, a narration of the historical intentions, and all the relevant descriptions. Red is the prevailing color, just like the passion the musicians put into their compositions. The first disc begins with a cover of "Rimmel," Francesco De Gregori's hit, through both a folk and blues progression where Bucci's voice interprets at its best with personality without fawning over the great singer-songwriter. Chorality for "Le Onde," an upbeat, straightforward song with an engaging refrain. We travel into the world of singer-songwriters with 70s references in "Montedoro" where the accordion sets a trend that is certainly functional in live, to be danced and sung. Not to be outdone is "Festa," always jovial and with a cadence reminiscent of the best Fabrizio De Andrè.
Acoustic start for "The Boy And The Star" where the Modena City Ramblers are pulled in thanks in part to the use of the violin. A Ska welcomes the listening in the track "Il Mago," GTO have fun making us dance and show us that music is life, as well as a desire to be together. Of particular note is the closing, unreleased track "Monica," where Folk returns to the forefront narrating a friendly evening with beautiful friend Monica.
The second disc begins with another unreleased, "Solar Storm" and the unfailing addictive rhythm that characterizes the band's sound. GTO continue the path in the discography with "Days," where special guest Andrea Matteaggi also appears on bass, and just speaking of guests here in "Go GTO Go" we really find numerous ones: Ivan Birks on violin, Luca Canali on vocals in the song "Mexican Border," Steve Teckila (dj), Alberto Brizzi (organ), Marcella Benedetti (backing vocals), Alessandra Chieli (backing vocals), Claudia Bertoldi (backing vocals), Simone Procelli (sax), Roberto "master" Gatti (percussion), Pietro Fabbri (keyboards) and Leo "cool" Beccafichi (horns).  All this highlights the care the band brings to its compositions with effective arrangements.  Another cover song is "Johnny B. Goode" done in Italian, while "Mexican Border" is sung in English, and there is no shortage of a punt into the world of Negrita in "Freewheelin' Radio." There's also the Reagge with "Rimini," sun in the head and sea ahead of the eyes. GTO know well how to entertain but also cuddle with delicate songs such as "Goodnight Stella."
"Go GTO Go 1993-2023" is a great collection that really encompasses all the best of this band that with professionalism has proven over the years that it deserves this large slice of the audience it has won. An unmissable opportunity to throw yourself body and soul into this warm colorful music, also a friend of many beautiful evenings spent among friends having fun. MS
